38 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog,(A) of the land of Magog,(B) the chief prince of[a] Meshek and Tubal;(C) prophesy against him 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of[b] Meshek and Tubal.(D)

38 Herrens ord kom till mig:

- 38:2 Gog i Magogs land Assyriska källor talar om en kung Gugu i Mat-Gugu (Gugus land) som regerade i Lydien (västra Turkiet) i början av 600-talet f Kr. Bibelns Gog är dock en framtida fiende till gudsfolket (jfr Upp 20:8). Magog låg enligt Josefus norr om Svarta havet (jfr 1 Mos 10:2).
- 38:2 storfursten över Meshek och Tubal Annan översättning: ”fursten över Rosh, Meshek och Tubal” (rosh betyder ”huvud”). Även i 38:3, 39:1. Meshek och Tubal var riken i östra delen av nuvarande Turkiet (se 1 Mos 10:2).
