3 Y me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, cómete este rollo escrito, y luego ve a hablarles a los israelitas».
2 Yo abrí la boca y él hizo que me comiera el rollo. 3 Luego me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, cómete el rollo que te estoy dando hasta que te sacies». Y yo me lo comí, y era tan dulce como la miel.
4 Otra vez me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, ve a la nación de Israel y proclámale mis palabras. 5 No te envío a un pueblo de lenguaje complicado y difícil de entender, sino a la nación de Israel. 6 No te mando a naciones numerosas de lenguaje complicado y difícil de entender, aunque si te hubiera mandado a ellas seguramente te escucharían. 7 Pero el pueblo de Israel no va a escucharte, porque no quiere obedecerme. Todo el pueblo de Israel es terco y obstinado. 8 No obstante, yo te haré tan terco y obstinado como ellos. 9 ¡Te haré inquebrantable como el diamante, inconmovible como la roca! No les tengas miedo ni te asustes, por más que sean un pueblo rebelde».
10 Luego me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, escucha bien todo lo que voy a decirte, y atesóralo en tu corazón. 11 Ahora ve adonde están exiliados tus compatriotas. Tal vez te escuchen, tal vez no; pero tú adviérteles: “Así dice el Señor omnipotente”».
12 Entonces el Espíritu de Dios[a] me levantó, y detrás de mí oí decir con el estruendo de un terremoto: «¡Bendita sea la gloria del Señor, donde él habita!» 13 Oí el ruido de las alas de los seres vivientes al rozarse unas con otras, y el de las ruedas que estaban junto a ellas, y el ruido era estruendoso. 14 El Espíritu me levantó y se apoderó de mí, y me fui amargado y enardecido, mientras la mano del Señor me sujetaba con fuerza. 15 Así llegué a Tel Aviv, a orillas del río Quebar, adonde estaban los israelitas exiliados y, totalmente abatido, me quedé con ellos durante siete días.
Advertencia a Israel
16 Al cabo de los siete días, el Señor me dijo lo siguiente: 17 «Hijo de hombre, a ti te he puesto como centinela del pueblo de Israel. Por tanto, cuando oigas mi palabra, adviértele de mi parte 18 al malvado: “Estás condenado a muerte”. Si tú no hablas al malvado ni le haces ver su mala conducta, para que siga viviendo, ese malvado morirá por su pecado, pero yo te pediré cuentas de su muerte. 19 En cambio, si tú se lo adviertes, y él no se arrepiente de su maldad ni de su mala conducta, morirá por su pecado, pero tú habrás salvado tu vida. 20 Por otra parte, si un justo se desvía de su buena conducta y hace lo malo, y yo lo hago tropezar y tú no se lo adviertes, él morirá sin que se le tome en cuenta todo el bien que haya hecho. Por no haberle hecho ver su maldad, él morirá por su pecado, pero yo te pediré cuentas de su muerte. 21 Pero, si tú le adviertes al justo que no peque, y en efecto él no peca, él seguirá viviendo porque hizo caso de tu advertencia, y tú habrás salvado tu vida».
22 Luego el Señor puso su mano sobre mí, y me dijo: «Levántate y dirígete al campo, que allí voy a hablarte». 23 Yo me levanté y salí al campo. Allí vi la gloria del Señor, tal como la había visto a orillas del río Quebar, y caí rostro en tierra. 24 Entonces el Espíritu de Dios entró en mí, hizo que me pusiera de pie y me dijo: «Ve y enciérrate en tu casa. 25 A ti, hijo de hombre, te atarán con sogas para que no puedas salir ni andar entre el pueblo. 26 Yo haré que se te pegue la lengua al paladar, y así te quedarás mudo y no podrás reprenderlos, por más que sean un pueblo rebelde. 27 Pero, cuando yo te hable, te soltaré la lengua y les advertirás: “Así dice el Señor omnipotente”. El que quiera oír, que oiga; y el que no quiera, que no oiga, porque son un pueblo rebelde.

3 1-4 Entonces Dios me dijo: «Ezequiel, cómete este libro, y llena tu estómago con él». Yo tomé el libro y me lo comí, y su sabor era tan dulce como la miel. Después, Dios me dijo:
«Quiero que lleves un mensaje para el pueblo de Israel. 5-6 No te estoy enviando a países donde se hablan idiomas desconocidos para ti. Pero si lo hiciera, la gente de esos países te haría caso. 7 En cambio, los israelitas, a pesar de que hablan tu idioma, son tan necios y rebeldes que te van a ignorar, como me han ignorado a mí.
8 »Sin embargo, yo haré que seas tan terco como ellos. Y mientras menos caso te hagan, más insistirás tú en que te escuchen. 9 Te haré más duro que los diamantes y las piedras. Así que no te espantes ni les tengas miedo, por más rebeldes que sean».
10 Dios también me dijo:
«Apréndete de memoria todo lo que voy a decirte, y repítelo al pie de la letra. 11 Ve al lugar donde está prisionera la gente de tu pueblo, y dales este mensaje de mi parte. Si te hacen caso, bien; si no te hacen caso, también».
12-14 Cuando el esplendor de Dios comenzó a retirarse de donde estaba, escuché detrás de mí un ruido muy fuerte, parecido al de un terremoto. Ese ruido lo hacían aquellos seres extraños. Lo hacían sus alas al tocarse unas con otras, y también las ruedas que estaban a su lado. Y pude oír que alguien decía con fuerte voz: «¡Bendito sea en su templo nuestro gran Dios!»
Entonces, algo dentro de mí me hizo levantarme y me sacó de allí; era como si Dios me hubiera tomado fuertemente de la mano. Yo estaba muy molesto y enojado. 15 De pronto me vi en Tel Abib, que está a la orilla del río Quebar. En esa ciudad estaban los israelitas que habían sido sacados de su país, y allí me quedé entre ellos siete días, sin saber qué hacer ni qué decir.
Dios pone a Ezequiel como vigilante
16 Pasados los siete días, Dios me dijo:
17 «Ezequiel, tu tarea será mantenerte siempre vigilante y decirles a los israelitas que están en grave peligro. Tan pronto como yo te diga algo, tú deberás decírselo a ellos.
18 »Si yo le anuncio a alguien que va a morir por causa de su mala conducta, y tú no se lo adviertes, esa persona morirá por causa de su pecado, pero el culpable de su muerte serás tú.
19 »En cambio, si tú le adviertes que debe apartarse del mal, y no te hace caso, esa persona morirá por causa de su pecado, pero tú no serás culpable de nada.
20 »Puede ser que una persona buena deje de hacer el bien y haga lo malo. Si yo la pongo en peligro de muerte, y tú no se lo adviertes, morirá por causa de su pecado, y no tomaré en cuenta lo bueno que haya hecho antes. Pero el culpable de su muerte serás tú. 21 En cambio, si le adviertes y deja de pecar, seguirá con vida, y tú quedarás libre de culpa».
Ezequiel se queda mudo
22 Mientras yo estaba allí, Dios me hizo sentir su poder y me dio esta orden: «Levántate y ve al valle. Allí te diré lo que tienes que hacer». 23 Así lo hice. Y cuando llegué al valle, vi de nuevo a Dios en todo su esplendor, como lo había contemplado a orillas del río Quebar. Yo me arrodillé para adorarlo, 24 pero algo en mí me hizo levantarme. Entonces, Dios me dijo:
«Ve a tu casa, y quédate allí encerrado. 25 Debes saber que te van a atar, y no podrás caminar libremente entre la gente. 26 Como los israelitas son muy rebeldes, voy a hacer que te quedes mudo. La lengua se te pegará al paladar, y no podrás reprenderlos. 27 Volverás a hablar cuando yo lo decida, y entonces les darás mi mensaje. Unos te harán caso, y otros no. Pues bien, el que quiera oír, que oiga, y el que no quiera oír, que no lo haga.

3 And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat.
3 Then he said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate(A) it, and it tasted as sweet as honey(B) in my mouth.
4 He then said to me: “Son of man, go now to the people of Israel and speak my words to them.(C) 5 You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and strange language,(D) but to the people of Israel— 6 not to many peoples of obscure speech and strange language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you.(E) 7 But the people of Israel are not willing to listen(F) to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for all the Israelites are hardened and obstinate.(G) 8 But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are.(H) 9 I will make your forehead(I) like the hardest stone, harder than flint.(J) Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people.(K)”
10 And he said to me, “Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart(L) all the words I speak to you. 11 Go(M) now to your people in exile and speak to them. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says,’(N) whether they listen or fail to listen.(O)”
12 Then the Spirit lifted me up,(P) and I heard behind me a loud rumbling sound as the glory of the Lord rose from the place where it was standing.[a] 13 It was the sound of the wings of the living creatures(Q) brushing against each other and the sound of the wheels beside them, a loud rumbling sound.(R) 14 The Spirit(S) then lifted me up(T) and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the Lord(U) on me. 15 I came to the exiles who lived at Tel Aviv near the Kebar River.(V) And there, where they were living, I sat among them for seven days(W)—deeply distressed.
Ezekiel’s Task as Watchman
16 At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me:(X) 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman(Y) for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.(Z) 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,(AA)’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[b] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.(AB) 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn(AC) from their wickedness(AD) or from their evil ways, they will die(AE) for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.(AF)
20 “Again, when a righteous person turns(AG) from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block(AH) before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.(AI) 21 But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.(AJ)”
22 The hand of the Lord(AK) was on me there, and he said to me, “Get up and go(AL) out to the plain,(AM) and there I will speak to you.” 23 So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River,(AN) and I fell facedown.(AO)
24 Then the Spirit came into me and raised me(AP) to my feet. He spoke to me and said: “Go, shut yourself inside your house.(AQ) 25 And you, son of man, they will tie with ropes; you will be bound so that you cannot go out among the people.(AR) 26 I will make your tongue stick to the roof(AS) of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious people.(AT) 27 But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’(AU) Whoever will listen let them listen, and whoever will refuse let them refuse; for they are a rebellious people.(AV)
