3 Y me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, cómete este rollo escrito y luego ve a hablarle al pueblo de Israel».
2 Yo abrí la boca y él me hizo comer el rollo. 3 Luego me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, cómete el rollo que te estoy dando hasta que te sacies». Me lo comí y era tan dulce como la miel.
4 Otra vez me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, ve al pueblo de Israel y proclámale mis palabras. 5 No te envío a un pueblo de idioma confuso y difícil de entender, sino al pueblo de Israel. 6 No te mando a muchos pueblos de lenguaje complicado y difícil que no puedas comprender, aunque si te hubiera mandado a ellos seguramente te escucharían. 7 Pero el pueblo de Israel no va a escucharte porque no quiere escucharme. Todo el pueblo de Israel es terco y obstinado. 8 No obstante, yo te haré tan terco y obstinado como ellos. 9 ¡Te haré inquebrantable como el diamante, inconmovible como la roca! No les tengas miedo ni te asustes, por más que sean un pueblo rebelde».
10 Luego me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, escucha bien todo lo que voy a decirte y atesóralo en tu corazón. 11 Ahora ve adonde están exiliados tus compatriotas. Tal vez te escuchen, tal vez no; pero tú adviérteles: “Así dice el Señor y Dios”».
12 Entonces me levantó el Espíritu[a] y detrás de mí oí decir con el estruendo de un terremoto: «¡Bendita sea la gloria del Señor, donde él habita!». 13 Oí el ruido de las alas de los seres vivientes al rozarse unas con otras y el de las ruedas que estaban junto a ellas; el ruido era estruendoso. 14 El Espíritu me levantó y se apoderó de mí. Y me fui amargado y enardecido en mi espíritu, mientras la mano del Señor me sujetaba con fuerza. 15 Así llegué a Tel Aviv, a orillas del río Quebar, adonde estaban los israelitas exiliados y, totalmente abatido, me quedé con ellos durante siete días.
Advertencia a Israel
16 Al cabo de los siete días, la palabra del Señor vino a mí y me dijo: 17 «Hijo de hombre, a ti te he puesto como centinela del pueblo de Israel. Por tanto, cuando oigas mi palabra, adviértele de mi parte. 18 Cuando yo diga al malvado: “¡Vas a morir!”, y tú al malvado no le hayas advertido sobre su mala conducta —para que siga viviendo—, ese malvado morirá por causa de su pecado, pero yo te pediré cuentas de su muerte. 19 En cambio, si tú se lo adviertes y él no se arrepiente de su maldad ni de su mala conducta, morirá por causa de su pecado, pero tú habrás salvado tu vida.
20 »Por otra parte, si una persona justa se desvía de su buena conducta y hace lo malo, y yo la hago tropezar y tú no se lo adviertes, morirá por su pecado. Las cosas justas que hizo no se tomarán en cuenta y yo te haré responsable de su muerte. 21 Pero si tú adviertes al justo para que no peque y en efecto él no peca, él seguirá viviendo porque hizo caso a tu advertencia y tú habrás salvado tu vida».
22 Luego el Señor puso su mano sobre mí y me dijo: «Levántate y dirígete al campo que allí voy a hablarte». 23 Yo me levanté y salí al campo. Allí vi la gloria del Señor, tal como la había visto a orillas del río Quebar, y caí rostro en tierra. 24 Entonces el Espíritu entró en mí, hizo que me pusiera de pie y me dijo: «Ve y enciérrate en tu casa. 25 A ti, hijo de hombre, te atarán con sogas para que no puedas salir ni andar entre el pueblo. 26 Yo haré que se te pegue la lengua al paladar; así te quedarás mudo y no podrás reprenderlos, por más que sean un pueblo rebelde. 27 Pero cuando yo te hable, te soltaré la lengua y les advertirás: “Así dice el Señor y Dios”. El que quiera oír, que oiga; y el que no quiera, que no oiga, porque son un pueblo rebelde.

3 And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat.
3 Then he said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate(A) it, and it tasted as sweet as honey(B) in my mouth.
4 He then said to me: “Son of man, go now to the people of Israel and speak my words to them.(C) 5 You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and strange language,(D) but to the people of Israel— 6 not to many peoples of obscure speech and strange language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you.(E) 7 But the people of Israel are not willing to listen(F) to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for all the Israelites are hardened and obstinate.(G) 8 But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are.(H) 9 I will make your forehead(I) like the hardest stone, harder than flint.(J) Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people.(K)”
10 And he said to me, “Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart(L) all the words I speak to you. 11 Go(M) now to your people in exile and speak to them. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says,’(N) whether they listen or fail to listen.(O)”
12 Then the Spirit lifted me up,(P) and I heard behind me a loud rumbling sound as the glory of the Lord rose from the place where it was standing.[a] 13 It was the sound of the wings of the living creatures(Q) brushing against each other and the sound of the wheels beside them, a loud rumbling sound.(R) 14 The Spirit(S) then lifted me up(T) and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the Lord(U) on me. 15 I came to the exiles who lived at Tel Aviv near the Kebar River.(V) And there, where they were living, I sat among them for seven days(W)—deeply distressed.
Ezekiel’s Task as Watchman
16 At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me:(X) 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman(Y) for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.(Z) 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,(AA)’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[b] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.(AB) 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn(AC) from their wickedness(AD) or from their evil ways, they will die(AE) for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.(AF)
20 “Again, when a righteous person turns(AG) from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block(AH) before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.(AI) 21 But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.(AJ)”
22 The hand of the Lord(AK) was on me there, and he said to me, “Get up and go(AL) out to the plain,(AM) and there I will speak to you.” 23 So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River,(AN) and I fell facedown.(AO)
24 Then the Spirit came into me and raised me(AP) to my feet. He spoke to me and said: “Go, shut yourself inside your house.(AQ) 25 And you, son of man, they will tie with ropes; you will be bound so that you cannot go out among the people.(AR) 26 I will make your tongue stick to the roof(AS) of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious people.(AT) 27 But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’(AU) Whoever will listen let them listen, and whoever will refuse let them refuse; for they are a rebellious people.(AV)

Warn These People
3 He told me, “Son of man, eat what you see. Eat this book. Then go and speak to the family of Israel.”
2-3 As I opened my mouth, he gave me the scroll to eat, saying, “Son of man, eat this book that I am giving you. Make a full meal of it!”
So I ate it. It tasted so good—just like honey.
4-6 Then he told me, “Son of man, go to the family of Israel and speak my Message. Look, I’m not sending you to a people who speak a hard-to-learn language with words you can hardly pronounce. If I had sent you to such people, their ears would have perked up and they would have listened immediately.
7-9 “But it won’t work that way with the family of Israel. They won’t listen to you because they won’t listen to me. They are, as I said, a hard case, hardened in their sin. But I’ll make you as hard in your way as they are in theirs. I’ll make your face as hard as rock, harder than granite. Don’t let them intimidate you. Don’t be afraid of them, even though they’re a bunch of rebels.”
10-11 Then he said, “Son of man, get all these words that I’m giving you inside you. Listen to them obediently. Make them your own. And now go. Go to the exiles, your people, and speak. Tell them, ‘This is the Message of God, the Master.’ Speak your piece, whether they listen or not.”
12-13 Then the Spirit picked me up. Behind me I heard a great commotion—“Blessed be the Glory of God in his Sanctuary!”—the wings of the living creatures beating against each other, the whirling wheels, the rumble of a great earthquake.
14-15 The Spirit lifted me and took me away. I went bitterly and angrily. I didn’t want to go. But God had me in his grip. I arrived among the exiles who lived near the Kebar River at Tel Aviv. I came to where they were living and sat there for seven days, appalled.
16 At the end of the seven days, I received this Message from God:
17-19 “Son of man, I’ve made you a watchman for the family of Israel. Whenever you hear me say something, warn them for me. If I say to the wicked, ‘You are going to die,’ and you don’t sound the alarm warning them that it’s a matter of life or death, they will die and it will be your fault. I’ll hold you responsible. But if you warn the wicked and they keep right on sinning anyway, they’ll most certainly die for their sin, but you won’t die. You’ll have saved your life.
20-21 “And if the righteous turn back from living righteously and take up with evil when I step in and put them in a hard place, they’ll die. If you haven’t warned them, they’ll die because of their sins, and none of the right things they’ve done will count for anything—and I’ll hold you responsible. But if you warn these righteous people not to sin and they listen to you, they’ll live because they took the warning—and again, you’ll have saved your life.”
22 God grabbed me by the shoulder and said, “Get up. Go out on the plain. I want to talk with you.”
23 So I got up and went out on the plain. I couldn’t believe my eyes: the Glory of God! Right there! It was like the Glory I had seen at the Kebar River. I fell to the ground, prostrate.
24-26 Then the Spirit entered me and put me on my feet. He said, “Go home and shut the door behind you.” And then something odd: “Son of man: They’ll tie you hand and foot with ropes so you can’t leave the house. I’ll make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so you won’t be able to talk and tell the people what they’re doing wrong, even though they are a bunch of rebels.
27 “But then when the time is ripe, I’ll free your tongue and you’ll say, ‘This is what God, the Master, says: . . .’ From then on it’s up to them. They can listen or not listen, whichever they like. They are a bunch of rebels!”
