Historia de las dos hermanas adúlteras
23 El Señor me dirigió la palabra:
2 — Hijo de hombre: Había dos mujeres, hijas de la misma madre. 3 Se prostituyeron en Egipto siendo jóvenes. Allí fueron manoseados sus pechos y acariciados sus senos de doncella. 4 La mayor se llamaba Oholá y su hermana Oholibá. Llegaron a ser mías y tuvieron hijos e hijas. Oholá era Samaría y Oholibá Jerusalén.
5 Oholá se prostituyó estando bajo mi autoridad; se prendó de los amantes que tenía cerca, los asirios, 6 que llevaban vestidos de púrpura; eran gobernadores y magistrados, todos jóvenes apuestos, jinetes a lomos de caballos. 7 Les concedió sus lascivos favores; eran la flor y nata de los asirios, y se contaminó con los ídolos de quienes se había prendado. 8 No abandonó su talante de prostituta que había arrastrado desde Egipto, donde se habían acostado con ella cuando era joven, donde acariciaron sus senos de doncella y desahogaron con ella su lujuria. 9 Por eso, la entregué en manos de sus amantes asirios, de quienes se había prendado. 10 Ellos dejaron al descubierto su desnudez y le quitaron a sus hijos e hijas, y a ella misma la mataron a espada. Y así se convirtió en escarmiento de las mujeres, pues se había hecho justicia con ella.
11 Vio todo esto su hermana Oholibá, pero se corrompió más que su hermana, a quien superó en pasión y en lascivia. 12 Se prendó de sus vecinos los asirios, de sus gobernadores y magistrados, magníficamente vestidos, jinetes a lomos de caballos, todos ellos jóvenes apuestos. 13 Me di cuenta de que se había contaminado (de hecho, la conducta de ambas era la misma). 14 Pero esta superó a la otra en prostituciones. Vio en la pared relieves de figuras masculinas, representaciones grabadas de caldeos pintadas con bermellón, 15 con las caderas ceñidas con cinturones, tocados con turbantes sueltos por detrás. Todos tenían aspecto de oficiales; eran imágenes de los babilonios, nativos de Caldea. 16 Ella se prendó de lo que habían visto sus ojos y envió mensajeros a Caldea. 17 Acudieron a ella los babilonios a compartir su lecho de amor; la mancillaron con su lascivia y, una vez mancillada, se hastió de ellos. 18 Dejó así al descubierto sus prostituciones y su desnudez, y entonces yo me hastié de ella, como me había hastiado de su hermana. 19 Pero multiplicó sus prostituciones, hasta el punto de recordar cuando, siendo joven, se prostituía en Egipto 20 y se quedaba prendada de aquellos disolutos, que tenían unos miembros como los de los asnos y echaban tanto esperma como los caballos. 21 Añorabas la lascivia de tu juventud, cuando manoseaban tus pechos en Egipto y acariciaban tus senos de doncella.
22 Por eso, Oholibá, así dice el Señor Dios: Voy a incitar contra ti a tus amantes, a esos de quienes te hastiaste, y haré que te ataquen por todos los flancos: 23 los babilonios y todos los caldeos de Pecod, de Soa y de Coa; todos los asirios, aquellos jóvenes apuestos, gobernadores y magistrados, capitanes y héroes, todos montados en sus caballos. 24 Te atacarán por el norte carros de combate y carretas, y un nutrido ejército. Por todas partes te harán frente con paveses, escudos y yelmos; por mi parte les concederé la posibilidad de juzgar, y te juzgarán conforme a sus leyes. 25 Descargaré mis celos contra ti y serás víctima de su furor; te cortarán nariz y orejas, y tu descendencia caerá a filo de espada. Se llevarán a tus hijos e hijas, y tus supervivientes serán devorados por el fuego. 26 Te quitarán la ropa y se apoderarán de tus joyas. 27 Pondré fin a tu inmoralidad y a tus prostituciones, que empezaron en tierra de Egipto; no volverás a poner tus ojos en ellos, ni te acordarás ya de Egipto. 28 Pues esto dice el Señor Dios: He decidido entregarte en manos de los que odias, en poder de quienes te has hastiado. 29 Te tratarán con odio, te desposeerán de tus bienes y te dejarán desnuda del todo; dejarán al descubierto tu desnudez de prostituta. Tu inmoralidad y tus prostituciones 30 te han acarreado todo esto, por haberte prostituido yendo detrás de las naciones, por haberte contaminado con sus ídolos. 31 Por haber seguido el camino de tu hermana, pondré su copa en tu mano.
32 Esto dice el Señor Dios:
Beberás la copa de tu hermana,
la copa profunda y ancha,
que servirá de risa y de burla,
una copa de gran capacidad.
33 Quedarás embriagada y afligida.
Copa de horror y devastación
la copa de tu hermana Samaría.
34 La beberás hasta la última gota,
consumirás incluso sus heces
y te rasgarás los pechos.
Yo soy quien ha hablado
—oráculo del Señor Dios—.
35 Por consiguiente, esto dice el Señor Dios: Por haberme olvidado y haberme vuelto la espalda, tendrás que cargar con tu inmoralidad y tus prostituciones.
36 Me dijo el Señor:
— Hijo de hombre, si quieres juzgar a Oholá y a Oholibá, repróchales sus abominaciones. 37 Han cometido adulterio, tienen sangre en sus manos, se han prostituido con sus ídolos e incluso han pasado a fuego a los hijos que me habían dado. 38 Pero hicieron algo más: aquel día contaminaron mi santuario y profanaron mis sábados. 39 Y, tras sacrificar a sus hijos en honor de sus ídolos, entraron ese mismo día en mi santuario para profanarlo. Eso es lo que hicieron dentro de mi propia casa. 40 Incluso enviaron mensajeros para que vinieran hombres de tierras lejanas. En cuanto llegaron, te lavaste, te pintaste los ojos y te enjoyaste. 41 Te recostaste en tu magnífico diván, frente al cual estaba dispuesta una mesa, sobre la que habías puesto el incienso y los perfumes que me correspondían a mí. 42 Ella disfrutaba con el ruido causado por una multitud de hombres despreocupados, llegados del desierto, que ponían brazaletes en las muñecas de ellas y hermosas coronas en sus cabezas. 43 Y yo me preguntaba si aquella mujer, desgastada de tanto cometer adulterios, sería capaz de seguir con sus fornicaciones. 44 Acudían a ella como quien acude donde una prostituta: eso es lo que hacían cuando visitaban a las depravadas Oholá y a Oholibá. 45 Pero otros hombres justicieros les aplicarán el castigo reservado a las adúlteras y homicidas, pues son realmente adúlteras y sus manos están manchadas de sangre.
46 Esto dice el Señor Dios: Que las ataque un ejército y las someta al terror y al saqueo. 47 Las apedrearán y las destrozarán con sus espadas; matarán a sus hijos e hijas e incendiarán sus viviendas. 48 Pondré fin en el país a la inmoralidad, y esto servirá de aviso a todas las mujeres para que no cometan adulterio como tú has hecho. 49 Se os hará responsables de vuestra inmoralidad, cargaréis con los pecados cometidos con vuestros ídolos, y reconoceréis que yo soy el Señor Dios.

23 La palabra del Señor vino a mí y me dijo: 2 «Hijo de hombre, te cuento que había dos mujeres, hijas de una misma madre. 3 Desde jóvenes se hicieron prostitutas en Egipto. En esa tierra fueron manoseados sus pechos, sus pechos virginales fueron acariciados. 4 La mayor se llamaba Aholá y la menor, Aholibá. Me uní a ellas y me dieron hijos e hijas. Aholá representa a Samaria y su hermana Aholibá a Jerusalén.
5 »Mientras Aholá me pertenecía, se prostituyó y se enamoró perdidamente de sus amantes los asirios, 6 todos ellos guerreros vestidos de color azul, gobernadores y oficiales, jóvenes apuestos y hábiles jinetes. 7 Como una prostituta, se entregó a lo mejor de los asirios; se contaminó con todos los ídolos por los que sintió pasión. 8 Jamás abandonó la prostitución que había comenzado a practicar en Egipto. Desde su juventud, fueron muchos los que se acostaron con ella; fueron muchos los que acariciaron sus pechos virginales y desahogaron su lujuria con ella.
9 »Por eso la entregué en manos de sus amantes, los asirios, con quienes ella se apasionó. 10 Y ellos la desnudaron, le quitaron sus hijos y sus hijas, y la mataron a filo de espada. Fue tal el castigo que ella recibió que se convirtió en ejemplo para las mujeres.
11 »Aunque su hermana Aholibá vio esto, dio rienda suelta a sus pasiones y se prostituyó aún más que su hermana. 12 Ella también se enamoró perdidamente de los asirios, todos ellos gobernadores y oficiales, guerreros vestidos con mucho lujo, hábiles jinetes y jóvenes muy apuestos. 13 Yo pude darme cuenta de que ella se había contaminado y seguido el ejemplo de su hermana.
14 »Pero Aholibá llevó más allá sus prostituciones. Vio en la pared figuras de babilonios[a] pintadas de rojo, 15 con cinturones y amplios turbantes en la cabeza. Todos ellos tenían aspecto de oficiales y se parecían a los habitantes de Babilonia.[b] 16 Al verlos, se enamoró de ellos perdidamente y envió mensajeros a Babilonia.[c] 17 Los babilonios vinieron y se acostaron con ella en el lecho de sus pasiones. A tal punto la contaminaron con sus prostituciones que se hastió de ellos. 18 Pero exhibiendo su desnudez, practicó con descaro la prostitución. Entonces me hastié de ella, como antes me había hastiado de su hermana. 19 Pero ella multiplicó sus prostituciones, recordando los días de su juventud cuando en Egipto había sido una prostituta. 20 Allí se había enamorado perdidamente de sus amantes, cuyos genitales eran como los de un asno y su semen como el de un caballo. 21 Así echó de menos la lujuria de su juventud, cuando los egipcios manoseaban sus senos y acariciaban sus pechos virginales.
22 »Por eso, Aholibá, así dice el Señor y Dios: Voy a incitar contra ti a tus amantes, de los que te alejaste con disgusto. De todas partes traeré contra ti 23 a los babilonios y a todos los caldeos, a los de Pecod, Soa y Coa, y con ellos a los asirios, todos ellos jóvenes apuestos, gobernantes y oficiales, guerreros y hombres distinguidos, montados a caballo. 24 Vendrán contra ti con armas, carros de guerra y carretas; mucho pueblo con armadura, escudos y cascos. Les encargaré que te juzguen, y te castigarán según sus costumbres. 25 Descargaré sobre ti el furor de mi ira, y ellos te maltratarán con furia. Te cortarán la nariz y las orejas; a tus sobrevivientes los matarán a filo de espada. Te arrebatarán a tus hijos y a tus hijas, y los que aún queden con vida serán consumidos por el fuego. 26 Te arrancarán tus vestidos y te quitarán tus joyas. 27 Así pondré fin a tu lujuria y a tu prostitución que comenzaste en Egipto. Ya no desearás esas cosas ni te acordarás más de Egipto.
28 »Así dice el Señor y Dios: Voy a entregarte en manos de los que odias, en manos de los que te alejaste con disgusto. 29 Ellos te tratarán con odio y te despojarán de todas tus posesiones. Te dejarán completamente desnuda, y tus prostituciones quedarán al descubierto. Tu lujuria y tu promiscuidad 30 son la causa de todo esto, porque te prostituiste con las naciones y te contaminaste con sus ídolos. 31 Por cuanto has seguido los pasos de tu hermana, en castigo beberás la misma copa.
32 »Así dice el Señor y Dios:
»Beberás la copa de tu hermana,
una copa grande y profunda.
Llena está de burla y escarnio,
33 llena de embriaguez y dolor.
Es la copa de ruina y destrucción;
¡es la copa de tu hermana Samaria!
34 La beberás hasta la última gota,
la romperás en mil pedazos
y te desgarrarás los pechos,
porque yo lo he dicho,
afirma el Señor y Dios.
35 »Por eso, así dice el Señor y Dios: Por cuanto me has olvidado y me has dado la espalda, sufrirás las consecuencias de tu lujuria y de tus prostituciones».
36 El Señor me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, ¿juzgarás tú a Aholá y a Aholibá? ¡Échales en cara sus abominaciones! 37 Ellas han cometido adulterio y tienen las manos manchadas de sangre. Han cometido adulterio con sus ídolos y hasta han sacrificado a los hijos que me dieron, los han ofrecido como alimento a esos ídolos. 38 Además, me han ofendido contaminando mi santuario y a la vez profanando mis sábados. 39 El mismo día que sacrificaron a sus hijos para adorar a sus ídolos, entraron a mi santuario y lo profanaron. ¡Y lo hicieron en mi propia casa!
40 »Y por si fuera poco, mandaron a traer gente de muy lejos. Cuando esa gente llegó, ellas se bañaron, se pintaron los ojos y se adornaron con joyas; 41 luego se sentaron en un diván lujoso, frente a una mesa donde previamente habían colocado el incienso y el aceite que me pertenecen.
42 »Había ruido de una multitud despreocupada. Vinieron sabeos del desierto, junto a gente común. Adornaron a las mujeres poniéndoles brazaletes en sus muñecas y hermosas coronas sobre sus cabezas. 43 Pensé entonces en esa mujer desgastada por sus adulterios: “Ahora van a seguir aprovechándose de esa mujer prostituida”. 44 Y se acostaron con ella como quien se acuesta con una prostituta. Fue así como se acostaron con esas mujeres lascivas llamadas Aholá y Aholibá. 45 Pero los hombres justos les darán el castigo que merecen las mujeres asesinas y adúlteras, ¡porque son unas adúlteras y tienen las manos manchadas de sangre!
46 »En efecto, así dice el Señor y Dios: ¡Que se convoque a una multitud contra ellas, y que sean entregadas al terror y al saqueo! 47 ¡Que la multitud las apedree y las despedace con la espada! ¡Que maten a sus hijos y a sus hijas, y prendan fuego a sus casas!
48 »Yo pondré fin en el país a esta conducta llena de lascivia. Todas las mujeres quedarán advertidas y no seguirán su ejemplo. 49 Serán responsables de sus lascivias y pagarán las consecuencias de sus pecados de idolatría. Entonces sabrán que yo soy el Señor y Dios».

23 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother.(A) 3 They became prostitutes in Egypt,(B) engaging in prostitution(C) from their youth.(D) In that land their breasts were fondled and their virgin bosoms caressed.(E) 4 The older was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. They were mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.(F)
5 “Oholah engaged in prostitution while she was still mine; and she lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians(G)—warriors(H) 6 clothed in blue, governors and commanders, all of them handsome young men, and mounted horsemen. 7 She gave herself as a prostitute to all the elite of the Assyrians and defiled herself with all the idols of everyone she lusted after.(I) 8 She did not give up the prostitution she began in Egypt,(J) when during her youth men slept with her, caressed her virgin bosom and poured out their lust on her.(K)
9 “Therefore I delivered her into the hands(L) of her lovers,(M) the Assyrians, for whom she lusted.(N) 10 They stripped(O) her naked, took away her sons and daughters and killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women,(P) and punishment was inflicted(Q) on her.(R)
11 “Her sister Oholibah saw this,(S) yet in her lust and prostitution she was more depraved than her sister.(T) 12 She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and commanders, warriors in full dress, mounted horsemen, all handsome young men.(U) 13 I saw that she too defiled herself; both of them went the same way.(V)
14 “But she carried her prostitution still further. She saw men portrayed on a wall,(W) figures of Chaldeans[a] portrayed in red,(X) 15 with belts(Y) around their waists and flowing turbans on their heads; all of them looked like Babylonian chariot officers, natives of Chaldea.[b] 16 As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers(Z) to them in Chaldea.(AA) 17 Then the Babylonians(AB) came to her, to the bed of love, and in their lust they defiled her. After she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust.(AC) 18 When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her naked body,(AD) I turned away(AE) from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister.(AF) 19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.[c](AG)
22 “Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will stir up your lovers(AH) against you, those you turned away from in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side(AI)— 23 the Babylonians(AJ) and all the Chaldeans,(AK) the men of Pekod(AL) and Shoa and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them, handsome young men, all of them governors and commanders, chariot officers and men of high rank, all mounted on horses.(AM) 24 They will come against you with weapons,[d] chariots and wagons(AN) and with a throng of people; they will take up positions against you on every side with large and small shields and with helmets. I will turn you over to them for punishment,(AO) and they will punish you according to their standards. 25 I will direct my jealous anger(AP) against you, and they will deal with you in fury. They will cut off your noses and your ears, and those of you who are left will fall by the sword. They will take away your sons and daughters,(AQ) and those of you who are left will be consumed by fire.(AR) 26 They will also strip(AS) you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry.(AT) 27 So I will put a stop(AU) to the lewdness and prostitution you began in Egypt. You will not look on these things with longing or remember Egypt anymore.
28 “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to deliver you into the hands(AV) of those you hate, to those you turned away from in disgust. 29 They will deal with you in hatred and take away everything you have worked for. They will leave you stark naked,(AW) and the shame of your prostitution will be exposed.(AX) Your lewdness(AY) and promiscuity(AZ) 30 have brought this on you, because you lusted after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols.(BA) 31 You have gone the way of your sister; so I will put her cup(BB) into your hand.(BC)
32 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“You will drink your sister’s cup,
a cup large and deep;
it will bring scorn and derision,(BD)
for it holds so much.(BE)
33 You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow,
the cup of ruin and desolation,
the cup of your sister Samaria.(BF)
34 You will drink it(BG) and drain it dry
and chew on its pieces—
and you will tear your breasts.
I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.(BH)
35 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Since you have forgotten(BI) me and turned your back on me,(BJ) you must bear(BK) the consequences of your lewdness and prostitution.”
36 The Lord said to me: “Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront(BL) them with their detestable practices,(BM) 37 for they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; they even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to me, as food for them.(BN) 38 They have also done this to me: At that same time they defiled my sanctuary(BO) and desecrated my Sabbaths.(BP) 39 On the very day they sacrificed their children to their idols, they entered my sanctuary and desecrated(BQ) it. That is what they did in my house.(BR)
40 “They even sent messengers for men who came from far away,(BS) and when they arrived you bathed yourself for them, applied eye makeup(BT) and put on your jewelry.(BU) 41 You sat on an elegant couch,(BV) with a table(BW) spread before it on which you had placed the incense(BX) and olive oil that belonged to me.(BY)
42 “The noise of a carefree(BZ) crowd was around her; drunkards(CA) were brought from the desert along with men from the rabble, and they put bracelets(CB) on the wrists of the woman and her sister and beautiful crowns on their heads.(CC) 43 Then I said about the one worn out by adultery, ‘Now let them use her as a prostitute,(CD) for that is all she is.’ 44 And they slept with her. As men sleep with a prostitute, so they slept with those lewd women, Oholah and Oholibah. 45 But righteous judges will sentence them to the punishment of women who commit adultery and shed blood,(CE) because they are adulterous and blood is on their hands.(CF)
46 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Bring a mob(CG) against them and give them over to terror and plunder.(CH) 47 The mob will stone them and cut them down with their swords; they will kill their sons and daughters(CI) and burn(CJ) down their houses.(CK)
48 “So I will put an end(CL) to lewdness in the land, that all women may take warning and not imitate you.(CM) 49 You will suffer the penalty for your lewdness and bear the consequences of your sins of idolatry.(CN) Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.(CO)”

23 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying:
2 “Son of man, there were (A)two women,
The daughters of one mother.
3 (B)They committed harlotry in Egypt,
They committed harlotry in (C)their youth;
Their breasts were there embraced,
Their virgin bosom was there pressed.
4 Their names: [a]Oholah the elder and [b]Oholibah (D)her sister;
(E)They were Mine,
And they bore sons and daughters.
As for their names,
Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem is Oholibah.
The Older Sister, Samaria
5 “Oholah played the harlot even though she was Mine;
And she lusted for her lovers, the neighboring (F)Assyrians,
6 Who were clothed in purple,
Captains and rulers,
All of them desirable young men,
Horsemen riding on horses.
7 Thus she committed her harlotry with them,
All of them choice men of Assyria;
And with all for whom she lusted,
With all their idols, she defiled herself.
8 She has never given up her harlotry brought (G)from Egypt,
For in her youth they had lain with her,
Pressed her virgin bosom,
And poured out their immorality upon her.
9 “Therefore I have delivered her
Into the hand of her lovers,
Into the hand of the (H)Assyrians,
For whom she lusted.
10 They uncovered her nakedness,
Took away her sons and daughters,
And slew her with the sword;
She became a byword among women,
For they had executed judgment on her.
The Younger Sister, Jerusalem
11 “Now (I)although her sister Oholibah saw this, (J)she became more corrupt in her lust than she, and in her harlotry more corrupt than her sister’s harlotry.
12 “She lusted for the neighboring (K)Assyrians,
(L)Captains and rulers,
Clothed most gorgeously,
Horsemen riding on horses,
All of them desirable young men.
13 Then I saw that she was defiled;
Both took the same way.
14 But she increased her harlotry;
She looked at men portrayed on the wall,
Images of (M)Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion,
15 Girded with belts around their waists,
Flowing turbans on their heads,
All of them looking like captains,
In the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea,
The land of their nativity.
16 (N)As soon as her eyes saw them,
She lusted for them
And sent (O)messengers to them in Chaldea.
17 “Then the [c]Babylonians came to her, into the bed of love,
And they defiled her with their immorality;
So she was defiled by them, (P)and alienated herself from them.
18 She revealed her harlotry and uncovered her nakedness.
Then (Q)I (R)alienated Myself from her,
As I had alienated Myself from her sister.
19 “Yet she multiplied her harlotry
In calling to remembrance the days of her youth,
(S)When she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.
20 For she lusted for her [d]paramours,
Whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys,
And whose issue is like the issue of horses.
21 Thus you called to remembrance the lewdness of your youth,
When the (T)Egyptians pressed your bosom
Because of your youthful breasts.
Judgment on Jerusalem
22 “Therefore, Oholibah, thus says the Lord God:
(U)‘Behold, I will stir up your lovers against you,
From whom you have alienated yourself,
And I will bring them against you from every side:
23 The Babylonians,
All the Chaldeans,
(V)Pekod, Shoa, Koa,
(W)All the Assyrians with them,
All of them desirable young men,
Governors and rulers,
Captains and men of renown,
All of them riding on horses.
24 And they shall come against you
With chariots, wagons, and war-horses,
With a horde of people.
They shall array against you
Buckler, shield, and helmet all around.
‘I will delegate judgment to them,
And they shall judge you according to their judgments.
25 I will set My (X)jealousy against you,
And they shall deal furiously with you;
They shall remove your nose and your ears,
And your remnant shall fall by the sword;
They shall take your sons and your daughters,
And your remnant shall be devoured by fire.
26 (Y)They shall also strip you of your clothes
And take away your beautiful jewelry.
27 ‘Thus (Z)I will make you cease your lewdness and your (AA)harlotry
Brought from the land of Egypt,
So that you will not lift your eyes to them,
Nor remember Egypt anymore.’
28 “For thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I will deliver you into the hand of (AB)those you hate, into the hand of those (AC)from whom you alienated yourself. 29 (AD)They will deal hatefully with you, take away all you have worked for, and (AE)leave you naked and bare. The nakedness of your harlotry shall be uncovered, both your lewdness and your harlotry. 30 I will do these things to you because you have (AF)gone as a harlot after the Gentiles, because you have become defiled by their idols. 31 You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore I will put her (AG)cup in your hand.’
32 “Thus says the Lord God:
‘You shall drink of your sister’s cup,
The deep and wide one;
(AH)You shall be laughed to scorn
And held in derision;
It contains much.
33 You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow,
The cup of horror and desolation,
The cup of your sister Samaria.
34 You shall (AI)drink and drain it,
You shall break its [e]shards,
And tear at your own breasts;
For I have spoken,’
Says the Lord God.
35 “Therefore thus says the Lord God:
‘Because you (AJ)have forgotten Me and (AK)cast Me behind your back,
Therefore you shall bear the penalty
Of your lewdness and your harlotry.’ ”
Both Sisters Judged
36 The Lord also said to me: “Son of man, will you (AL)judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then (AM)declare to them their abominations. 37 For they have committed adultery, and (AN)blood is on their hands. They have committed adultery with their idols, and even sacrificed their sons (AO)whom they bore to Me, passing them through the fire, to devour them. 38 Moreover they have done this to Me: They have (AP)defiled My sanctuary on the same day and (AQ)profaned My Sabbaths. 39 For after they had slain their children for their idols, on the same day they came into My sanctuary to profane it; and indeed (AR)thus they have done in the midst of My house.
40 “Furthermore you sent for men to come from afar, (AS)to whom a messenger was sent; and there they came. And you (AT)washed yourself for them, (AU)painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments. 41 You sat on a stately (AV)couch, with a table prepared before it, (AW)on which you had set My incense and My oil. 42 The sound of a carefree multitude was with her, and [f]Sabeans were brought from the wilderness with men of the common sort, who put bracelets on their [g]wrists and beautiful crowns on their heads. 43 Then I said concerning her who had grown old in adulteries, ‘Will they commit harlotry with her now, and she with them?’ 44 Yet they went in to her, as men go in to a woman who plays the harlot; thus they went in to Oholah and Oholibah, the lewd women. 45 But righteous men will (AX)judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and (AY)blood is on their hands.
46 “For thus says the Lord God: (AZ)‘Bring up an assembly against them, give them up to trouble and plunder. 47 (BA)The assembly shall stone them with stones and [h]execute them with their swords; (BB)they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn their houses with fire. 48 Thus (BC)I will cause lewdness to cease from the land, (BD)that all women may be taught not to practice your lewdness. 49 They shall repay you for your lewdness, and you shall (BE)pay for your idolatrous sins. (BF)Then you shall know that I am the Lord God.’ ”
