Pecado y castigo de Jerusalén
22 Y vino a mí la palabra del Señor, diciendo: 2 Tú, hijo de hombre, ¿Vas a juzgar? ¿Vas a juzgar a la ciudad sanguinaria? Hazle saber todas sus abominaciones. 3 Dirás: «Así dice el Señor Dios[a]: “Ciudad que derrama sangre en medio de sí misma para que llegue su hora, y que se[b] hace ídolos para contaminarse(A), 4 por la[c] sangre que has derramado te has hecho culpable(B), y con los ídolos que has hecho te has contaminado. Has hecho acercar tu día[d] y has llegado al término de[e] tus años. Por tanto te he hecho oprobio de las naciones y objeto de burla de todas las tierras(C). 5 Las que están cerca de ti y las que están lejos se burlarán de ti, ciudad de mala fama, llena de confusión(D). 6 He aquí, los príncipes de Israel, cada uno según su poder[f], han estado en ti para derramar sangre(E). 7 En ti despreciaron al padre y a la madre(F), en medio de ti trataron con violencia al extranjero y en ti oprimieron al huérfano y a la viuda(G). 8 Has despreciado mis cosas sagradas y profanado mis días de reposo(H). 9 En ti han estado calumniadores para derramar sangre, en ti han comido en los santuarios de los montes y en ti han cometido perversidades(I). 10 En ti se ha descubierto la desnudez del padre(J), en ti han humillado a la que estaba impura por su menstruación(K). 11 Uno ha cometido abominación con la mujer de su prójimo(L), otro ha manchado a su nuera(M) con lascivia, y en ti otro ha humillado a su hermana(N), la hija de su padre. 12 En ti se ha recibido soborno para derramar sangre(O); has tomado interés y usura(P), y has dañado a tus prójimos, extorsionándolos(Q) y de mí te has olvidado” —declara el Señor Dios(R).
13 “Y he aquí, bato palmas contra las ganancias deshonestas que has adquirido y contra el[g] derramamiento de sangre que hay en medio de ti(S). 14 ¿Aguantará tu corazón o serán fuertes tus manos en los días que yo actúe contra ti? Yo, el Señor, he hablado y lo haré(T). 15 Yo te dispersaré entre las naciones, te esparciré por las tierras(U) y haré desaparecer de ti tu inmundicia(V). 16 Y por ti misma quedarás profanada a la vista de las naciones; y sabrás que yo soy el Señor(W)”».
17 Y vino a mí la palabra del Señor, diciendo: 18 Hijo de hombre, la casa de Israel se ha convertido en escoria para mí; todos ellos son bronce, estaño, hierro y plomo en medio del horno; escoria de plata son(X). 19 Por tanto, así dice el Señor Dios: «Por cuanto todos vosotros os habéis convertido en escoria, por tanto, he aquí, os voy a reunir en medio de Jerusalén. 20 Como se junta plata, bronce, hierro, plomo y estaño en medio del horno, y se atiza el fuego en él para fundirlos, así os juntaré yo en mi ira y en mi furor, os pondré allí y os fundiré(Y). 21 Os reuniré y atizaré sobre vosotros el fuego de mi furor, y seréis fundidos en medio de ella. 22 Como se funde la plata en el horno, así seréis fundidos en medio de ella; y sabréis que yo, el Señor, he derramado mi furor sobre vosotros(Z)».
23 Y vino a mí la palabra del Señor, diciendo: 24 Hijo de hombre, dile: «Tú eres tierra que no ha sido lavada ni mojada con la lluvia el día de la indignación(AA)». 25 Hay conspiración de sus profetas en medio de ella(AB), como león rugiente que desgarra la presa. Han devorado almas(AC), de las riquezas y cosas preciosas se han apoderado, las viudas se han multiplicado en medio de ella(AD). 26 Sus sacerdotes han violado mi ley(AE) y han profanado mis cosas sagradas; entre lo sagrado y lo profano no han hecho diferencia(AF), y entre lo inmundo y lo limpio no han enseñado a distinguir(AG); han escondido sus ojos de mis días de reposo, y he sido profanado entre ellos(AH). 27 Sus príncipes en medio de ella son como lobos que desgarran la presa, derramando sangre y destruyendo vidas(AI) para obtener ganancias injustas(AJ). 28 Y sus profetas los han recubierto con cal, viendo visiones falsas y adivinándoles mentiras, diciendo: «Así dice el Señor Dios», cuando el Señor no ha hablado(AK). 29 Las gentes de la tierra han hecho violencia y cometido robo, han oprimido al pobre y al necesitado(AL) y han maltratado injustamente al extranjero(AM). 30 Busqué entre ellos alguno(AN) que levantara un muro y se pusiera en pie en la brecha delante de mí a favor de la tierra(AO), para que yo no la destruyera(AP), pero no lo hallé. 31 He derramado, pues, mi indignación sobre ellos; con el fuego de mi furor los he consumido(AQ); he hecho recaer su conducta sobre sus cabezas —declara el Señor Dios(AR).

22 El Señor se dirigió a mí, y me dijo: 2 «Tú, hombre, vas a dictar la sentencia contra la ciudad criminal. La acusarás de todas las cosas detestables que ha hecho, 3 y le dirás: “Esto dice el Señor: Ciudad que matas a tus habitantes y fabricas ídolos para contaminarte, ¡ya te va a llegar tu hora! 4 Con los asesinatos que has cometido te has hecho culpable, y con los ídolos que has fabricado te has contaminado; has hecho que tu hora se acerque y que haya llegado el fin de tus días. Así pues, yo voy a hacer que los pueblos te insulten, que todas las naciones se burlen de ti. 5 Los de cerca y los de lejos se burlarán de ti, ciudad famosa por tu idolatría y tu gran desorden. 6 Allí están los gobernantes de Israel, que viven en medio de ti y cometen todos los crímenes que pueden. 7 Tus habitantes no honran a su padre ni a su madre, maltratan a los extranjeros, explotan a los huérfanos y a las viudas. 8 No respetan mis lugares sagrados ni mis sábados. 9 Por causa de sus mentiras, algunos de tus habitantes son los culpables de que otros mueran; asisten a los banquetes que se celebran en los montes en honor de los ídolos, y hacen cosas detestables. 10 Algunos tienen relaciones sexuales con la esposa de su padre, o abusan de la mujer que está en su período de menstruación. 11 Hay quienes cometen adulterio con la mujer de su prójimo, o tienen relaciones vergonzosas con su nuera, o hacen violencia a una media hermana. 12 Algunos de tus habitantes se dejan comprar para matar a otros. Prestan dinero a usura e interés, explotan y hacen violencia a su prójimo, y se olvidan de mí. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
13 »”Yo estoy muy enojado por tus explotaciones y asesinatos. 14 No pienses que vas a poder hacerme frente cuando yo tome medidas contra ti. Yo, el Señor, lo he dicho y lo voy a cumplir: 15 te esparciré por todas las naciones, te dispersaré por todos los países y te limpiaré totalmente de tu impureza; 16 me harás quedar mal a los ojos de las demás naciones, pero reconocerás que yo soy el Señor.”»
17 El Señor se dirigió a mí, y me dijo: 18 «El pueblo de Israel es para mí como el resto inservible que queda cuando se echa cobre, estaño, hierro, plomo o plata en el horno. 19 Por eso yo, el Señor, digo: Como todos ustedes se han convertido en un resto inservible, los voy a reunir en medio de Jerusalén. 20 Así como la plata, el cobre, el hierro, el plomo y el estaño se echan juntos en un horno, y se atiza el fuego para fundirlos, así yo, en mi ira terrible, los voy a reunir a ustedes y los pondré a fundir. 21 Sí, voy a atizar el fuego de mi ira, y los reuniré a ustedes para fundirlos en medio de la ciudad. 22 Así como se funde la plata en el horno, así serán fundidos ustedes en medio de la ciudad, y así reconocerán que yo, el Señor, he descargado mi ira contra ustedes.»
23 El Señor se dirigió a mí, y me dijo: 24 «Tú, hombre, dile a Israel: “Eres un país castigado con falta de lluvias y de agua, 25 un país con gobernantes como leones, que rugen y despedazan su presa; que en su territorio devoran a la gente, le roban sus tesoros y riquezas y dejan viudas a muchas mujeres. 26 Los sacerdotes de este país tuercen el sentido de mis enseñanzas y profanan las cosas que yo considero sagradas; no hacen ninguna distinción entre lo sagrado y lo profano, ni enseñan a otros a distinguir entre lo puro y lo impuro. No ponen atención a mis sábados, ni me honran. 27 Los jefes de este país son como lobos que despedazan su presa, listos a derramar sangre y a matar gente con tal de enriquecerse. 28 Los profetas ocultan la verdad, como quien blanquea una pared; dicen tener visiones, y anuncian cosas que resultan falsas. Aseguran que hablan en mi nombre, cuando en realidad yo no he hablado. 29 La gente del pueblo se dedica a la violencia y al robo; explotan al pobre y al necesitado, y cometen violencias e injusticias con los extranjeros. 30 Yo he buscado entre esa gente a alguien que haga algo en favor del país y que interceda ante mí para que yo no los destruya, pero no lo he encontrado. 31 Por eso he descargado mi castigo sobre ellos y los he destruido con el fuego de mi ira, para hacerlos responder por su conducta. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.”»

22 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 “Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? Yea, thou shalt show her all her abominations.
3 Then say thou, ‘Thus saith the Lord God: The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself.
4 Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed, and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years. Therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen and a mocking to all countries.
5 Those that are near and those that are far from thee shall mock thee, who art infamous and much vexed.
6 “‘Behold, the princes of Israel, every one was in thee to their power to shed blood.
7 In thee have they made light of father and mother. In the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger. In thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.
8 Thou hast despised Mine holy things and hast profaned My Sabbaths.
9 In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood, and in thee they eat upon the mountains. In the midst of thee they commit lewdness.
10 In thee have they uncovered their fathers’ nakedness. In thee have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution.
11 And one hath committed abomination with his neighbor’s wife, and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law, and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father’s daughter.
12 In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood. Thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained from thy neighbors by extortion, and hast forgotten Me, saith the Lord God.
13 “‘Behold, therefore I have smitten Mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee.
14 Can thine heart endure or can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee? I, the Lord, have spoken it, and will do it.
15 And I will scatter thee among the heathen and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee.
16 And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.’”
17 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has to Me become dross. All they are brass and tin and iron and lead in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord God: ‘Because ye have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.
20 As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it to melt it, so will I gather you in Mine anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.
21 Yea, I will gather you and blow upon you in the fire of My wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof.
22 As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I, the Lord, have poured out My fury upon you.’”
23 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
24 “Son of man, say unto her: ‘Thou art the land that is not cleansed nor rained upon in the day of indignation.’
25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof.
26 Her priests have violated My law and have profaned Mine holy things. They have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shown difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from My Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
27 Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.
28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity and divining lies unto them, saying, ‘Thus saith the Lord God,’ when the Lord hath not spoken.
29 The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy; yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.
30 And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.
31 Therefore have I poured out Mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath. Their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord God.”

Judgment on Jerusalem’s Sins
22 The word of the Lord came to me:
2 “Son of man, will you judge her? Will you judge this city of bloodshed?(A) Then confront her with all her detestable practices(B) 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You city that brings on herself doom by shedding blood(C) in her midst and defiles herself by making idols, 4 you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed(D) and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come.(E) Therefore I will make you an object of scorn(F) to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.(G) 5 Those who are near and those who are far away will mock you, you infamous city, full of turmoil.(H)
6 “‘See how each of the princes of Israel who are in you uses his power to shed blood.(I) 7 In you they have treated father and mother with contempt;(J) in you they have oppressed the foreigner(K) and mistreated the fatherless and the widow.(L) 8 You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths.(M) 9 In you are slanderers(N) who are bent on shedding blood;(O) in you are those who eat at the mountain shrines(P) and commit lewd acts.(Q) 10 In you are those who dishonor their father’s bed;(R) in you are those who violate women during their period,(S) when they are ceremonially unclean.(T) 11 In you one man commits a detestable offense with his neighbor’s wife,(U) another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law,(V) and another violates his sister,(W) his own father’s daughter.(X) 12 In you are people who accept bribes(Y) to shed blood; you take interest(Z) and make a profit from the poor. You extort unjust gain from your neighbors.(AA) And you have forgotten(AB) me, declares the Sovereign Lord.(AC)
13 “‘I will surely strike my hands(AD) together at the unjust gain(AE) you have made and at the blood(AF) you have shed in your midst.(AG) 14 Will your courage endure(AH) or your hands(AI) be strong in the day I deal with you? I the Lord have spoken,(AJ) and I will do it.(AK) 15 I will disperse you among the nations and scatter(AL) you through the countries; and I will put an end to(AM) your uncleanness.(AN) 16 When you have been defiled[a] in the eyes of the nations, you will know that I am the Lord.’”
17 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 18 “Son of man, the people of Israel have become dross(AO) to me; all of them are the copper, tin, iron and lead left inside a furnace.(AP) They are but the dross of silver.(AQ) 19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because you have all become dross,(AR) I will gather you into Jerusalem. 20 As silver, copper, iron, lead and tin are gathered into a furnace to be melted with a fiery blast, so will I gather you in my anger and my wrath and put you inside the city and melt you.(AS) 21 I will gather you and I will blow(AT) on you with my fiery wrath, and you will be melted inside her.(AU) 22 As silver is melted(AV) in a furnace, so you will be melted inside her, and you will know that I the Lord have poured out my wrath(AW) on you.’”(AX)
23 Again the word of the Lord came to me: 24 “Son of man, say to the land, ‘You are a land that has not been cleansed or rained on in the day of wrath.’(AY) 25 There is a conspiracy(AZ) of her princes[b] within her like a roaring lion(BA) tearing its prey; they devour people,(BB) take treasures and precious things and make many widows(BC) within her. 26 Her priests do violence to my law(BD) and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common;(BE) they teach that there is no difference between the unclean and the clean;(BF) and they shut their eyes to the keeping of my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned(BG) among them.(BH) 27 Her officials(BI) within her are like wolves(BJ) tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people(BK) to make unjust gain.(BL) 28 Her prophets whitewash(BM) these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations.(BN) They say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says’—when the Lord has not spoken.(BO) 29 The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery;(BP) they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner,(BQ) denying them justice.(BR)
30 “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall(BS) and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.(BT) 31 So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger,(BU) bringing down(BV) on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord.(BW)”
