The Day of the Wrath of the Lord

The word of the Lord came to me: “And you, (A)O son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel: (B)An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.[a] Now (C)the end is upon you, and (D)I will send my anger upon you; (E)I will judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. (F)And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity, but (G)I will punish you for your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. (H)Then you will know that I am the Lord.

“Thus says the Lord God: Disaster (I)after disaster![b] Behold, it comes. (J)An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes. (K)Your doom[c] has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. (L)The time has come; the day is near, a day of tumult, and not (M)of joyful shouting on the mountains. Now I will soon (N)pour out my wrath upon you, and (O)spend my anger against you, (P)and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. (Q)And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. (R)Then you will know that I am the Lord, who strikes.

10 (S)“Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! (T)Your doom has come; (U)the rod has blossomed; pride has budded. 11 (V)Violence has grown up into (W)a rod of wickedness. (X)None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them.[d] 12 (Y)The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not (Z)the buyer rejoice, nor (AA)the seller mourn, (AB)for wrath is upon all their multitude.[e] 13 For (AC)the seller shall not return to what he has sold, while they live. (AD)For the vision concerns all their multitude; it shall not turn back; and because of his iniquity, none can maintain his life.[f]

Punishment for Abominations Throughout the Land

And the word of Yahweh came[a] to me, saying, “And you, son of man,[b] thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel: ‘The end comes, the end on the four corners of the land. Now the end is on you, and I will send my anger on you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will bring on you all your detestable things. And my eye will not take pity on you, and I will not show compassion for your ways; on you I will bring your detestable things; they will be in the midst of you, and you will know that I am Yahweh.’ Thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘Look! Disaster after disaster is coming! The end comes, comes the end! It has awakened against you! Look! It comes! Doom is coming against you, the dweller[c] of the land; the time comes, the day is near, panic and not joy is on the mountains. Soon[d] I will pour out my rage on you, and I will fully vent my anger on you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will bring on you all of your detestable things. And my eye will not take pity, and I will not show compassion. According to your ways I will deal with you,[e] and your detestable things will be in the midst of you, and you will know that I am Yahweh who strikes.[f] 10 Look! The day is coming; doom goes out, the staff blossoms, pride sprouts. 11 Violence has grown to become a staff of wickedness; none[g] from them will remain, and none[h] from their abundance nor from their wealth;[i] and prominence will not be among them. 12 The time has come, the day has arrived; let not the buyer rejoice, and let the seller not mourn, for anger is on all their multitude. 13 For the seller will not return to the merchandise while they are still alive,[j] for the vision is about all of its multitude; it will not change, and a man because of his guilt will not be able to hold onto his life.
