Ezekiel 48
New International Reader's Version
The Land Will Be Divided Up
48 “Here are the tribes. They are listed by their names.
“Dan will receive one share of land. It will be at the northern border of Israel. The border will follow the Hethlon road to Lebo Hamath. Hazar Enan will be part of the border. So will the northern border of Damascus next to Hamath. Dan’s northern border will run from east to west.
2 Asher will receive one share. It will border the territory of Dan from east to west.
3 Naphtali will receive one share. It will border the territory of Asher from east to west.
4 Manasseh will receive one share. It will border the territory of Naphtali from east to west.
5 Ephraim will receive one share. It will border the territory of Manasseh from east to west.
6 Reuben will receive one share. It will border the territory of Ephraim from east to west.
7 Judah will receive one share. It will border the territory of Reuben from east to west.
8 “You must give one share as a special gift to me. It will border the territory of Judah from east to west. It will be eight miles wide. It will be as long as the border of each of the territories of the tribes. Its border will run from east to west. The temple will be in the center of that strip of land.
9 “Give that special share of land to me. It will be eight miles long and three and a third miles wide. 10 It will be the sacred share of land for the priests. It will be eight miles long on the north side. It will be three and a third miles wide on the west side. It will be three and a third miles wide on the east side. And it will be eight miles long on the south side. My temple will be in the center of it. 11 This share of land will be for the priests who are set apart to me. They will come from the family line of Zadok. The members of that family served me faithfully. They did not go astray as the Levites and other Israelites did. 12 Their share of land will be a special gift to them. It will be part of the sacred share of the land. It will be very holy. Its border will run along the territory of the Levites.
13 “The Levites will receive a share. It will be next to the territory of the priests. The Levites’ share will be eight miles long and three and a third miles wide. 14 They must not sell or trade any of it. It is the best part of the land. It must not be handed over to anyone else. It is set apart to me.
15 “The area that remains is one and two-thirds miles wide. It is eight miles long. It will not be holy. The people in Jerusalem can build houses there. They can use some of it as grasslands. The city will be in the center of it. 16 Each of the four sides of the city will be one and a half miles long. 17 Each of the four sides of the city’s grasslands will be 440 feet long. 18 What remains of the area will be three and a third miles long on the east and west sides. Its border will run along the border of the sacred share. Its crops will supply food for the city workers. 19 They will farm the area. They will come from all the tribes of Israel. 20 The entire area will be a square. Each of its four sides will be eight miles long. Set the sacred share apart as a special gift to me. Do the same thing with the property of the city.
21 “The area that remains on both sides will belong to the prince. So his land does not include the sacred share and the property of the city. The eastern part of his land will reach from the sacred share all the way to the eastern border. The western part will reach from the sacred share to the western border. The sacred share itself is eight miles long on its east and west sides. Both of those areas will be right next to the borders of the two tribes on the north and south sides. They will belong to the prince. The sacred share will be in the center of them. It will have the temple in it. 22 The property of the Levites will lie in the center of the prince’s share. So will the property of the city. The prince’s land will lie between the borders of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin.
23 “Here is the land for the rest of the tribes.
“Benjamin will receive one share. It will reach from the eastern border to the western border.
24 Simeon will receive one share. It will border the territory of Benjamin from east to west.
25 Issachar will receive one share. It will border the territory of Simeon from east to west.
26 Zebulun will receive one share. It will border the territory of Issachar from east to west.
27 Gad will receive one share. It will border the territory of Zebulun from east to west.
28 The southern border of Gad will run south from Tamar to the waters of Meribah Kadesh. It will continue along the Wadi of Egypt. It will end at the Mediterranean Sea.
29 “This is the land you must divide among the tribes of Israel. And these will be the shares they will receive,” announces the Lord and King.
The Gates of the New City
30 “Here is a list of the gates of the city.
“Start with its north side. It will be a mile and a half long. 31 The city gates will be named after the tribes of Israel. The north side will have three gates. They will be the gates of Reuben, Judah and Levi.
32 The east side will be a mile and a half long. It will have three gates. They will be the gates of Joseph, Benjamin and Dan.
33 The south side will be a mile and a half long. It will have three gates. They will be the gates of Simeon, Issachar and Zebulun.
34 The west side will be a mile and a half long. It will have three gates. They will be the gates of Gad, Asher and Naphtali.
35 “The city will be six miles around.
“From that time on, its name will be ‘The Lord Is There.’ ”
Ezekiel 48
New King James Version
Division of the Land
48 “Now these are the names of the tribes: (A)From the northern border along the road to Hethlon at the entrance of Hamath, to Hazar Enan, the border of Damascus northward, in the direction of Hamath, there shall be one section for (B)Dan from its east to its west side; 2 by the border of Dan, from the east side to the west, one section for (C)Asher; 3 by the border of Asher, from the east side to the west, one section for (D)Naphtali; 4 by the border of Naphtali, from the east side to the west, one section for (E)Manasseh; 5 by the border of Manasseh, from the east side to the west, one section for (F)Ephraim; 6 by the border of Ephraim, from the east side to the west, one section for (G)Reuben; 7 by the border of Reuben, from the east side to the west, one section for (H)Judah; 8 by the border of Judah, from the east side to the west, shall be (I)the district which you shall set apart, twenty-five thousand cubits in width, and in length the same as one of the other portions, from the east side to the west, with the (J)sanctuary in the center.
9 “The district that you shall set apart for the Lord shall be twenty-five thousand cubits in length and ten thousand in width. 10 To these—to the priests—the holy district shall belong: on the north twenty-five thousand cubits in length, on the west ten thousand in width, on the east ten thousand in width, and on the south twenty-five thousand in length. The sanctuary of the Lord shall be in the center. 11 (K)It shall be for the priests of the sons of Zadok, who are sanctified, who have kept My charge, who did not go astray when the children of Israel went astray, (L)as the Levites went astray. 12 And this district of land that is set apart shall be to them a thing most (M)holy by the border of the Levites.
13 “Opposite the border of the priests, the (N)Levites shall have an area twenty-five thousand cubits in length and ten thousand in width; its entire length shall be twenty-five thousand and its width ten thousand. 14 (O)And they shall not sell or exchange any of it; they may not alienate this best part of the land, for it is holy to the Lord.
15 (P)“The five thousand cubits in width that remain, along the edge of the twenty-five thousand, shall be (Q)for general use by the city, for dwellings and common-land; and the city shall be in the center. 16 These shall be its measurements: the north side four thousand five hundred cubits, the south side four thousand five hundred, the east side four thousand five hundred, and the west side four thousand five hundred. 17 The common-land of the city shall be: to the north two hundred and fifty cubits, to the south two hundred and fifty, to the east two hundred and fifty, and to the west two hundred and fifty. 18 The rest of the length, alongside the district of the holy section, shall be ten thousand cubits to the east and ten thousand to the west. It shall be adjacent to the district of the holy section, and its produce shall be food for the workers of the city. 19 (R)The workers of the city, from all the tribes of Israel, shall cultivate it. 20 The entire district shall be twenty-five thousand cubits by twenty-five thousand cubits, foursquare. You shall set apart the holy district with the property of the city.
21 (S)“The rest shall belong to the prince, on one side and on the other of the holy district and of the city’s property, next to the twenty-five thousand cubits of the holy district as far as the eastern border, and westward next to the twenty-five thousand as far as the western border, adjacent to the tribal portions; it shall belong to the prince. It shall be the holy district, (T)and the sanctuary of the [a]temple shall be in the center. 22 Moreover, apart from the possession of the Levites and the possession of the city which are in the midst of what belongs to the prince, the area between the border of Judah and the border of (U)Benjamin shall belong to the prince.
23 “As for the rest of the tribes, from the east side to the west, Benjamin shall have one section; 24 by the border of Benjamin, from the east side to the west, (V)Simeon shall have one section; 25 by the border of Simeon, from the east side to the west, (W)Issachar shall have one section; 26 by the border of Issachar, from the east side to the west, (X)Zebulun shall have one section; 27 by the border of Zebulun, from the east side to the west, (Y)Gad shall have one section; 28 by the border of Gad, on the south side, toward the [b]South, the border shall be from Tamar to (Z)the waters of [c]Meribah by Kadesh, along the brook to the (AA)Great Sea. 29 (AB)This is the land which you shall divide by lot as an inheritance among the tribes of Israel, and these are their portions,” says the Lord God.
The Gates of the City and Its Name
30 “These are the exits of the city. On the north side, measuring four thousand five hundred cubits 31 (AC)(the gates of the city shall be named after the tribes of Israel), the three gates northward: one gate for Reuben, one gate for Judah, and one gate for Levi; 32 on the east side, four thousand five hundred cubits, three gates: one gate for Joseph, one gate for Benjamin, and one gate for Dan; 33 on the south side, measuring four thousand five hundred cubits, three gates: one gate for Simeon, one gate for Issachar, and one gate for Zebulun; 34 on the west side, four thousand five hundred cubits with their three gates: one gate for Gad, one gate for Asher, and one gate for Naphtali. 35 All the way around shall be eighteen thousand cubits; (AD)and the name of the city from that day shall be: (AE)THE[d] LORD IS THERE.”

48 The lots of the tribes. 9 The parts of the possession of the Priests, of the Temple, of the Levites, of the city, and of the Prince are rehearsed.
1 Now these are the names of the [a]tribes. From the North side, to the coast toward Hethlon as one goeth to Hamath, Hazar, Enan, and the border of Damascus Northward the coast of Hamath, even from the East side to the West shall be a portion for Dan.
2 And by the border of Dan from the East side unto the West side, a portion for Asher.
3 And by the border of Asher from the East part even unto the West part, a portion for Naphtali.
4 And by the border of Naphtali from the East quarter unto the West side, a portion for Manasseh.
5 And by the border of Manasseh, from the East side unto the West side, a portion for Ephraim.
6 And by the border of Ephraim, from the East part even unto the West part, a portion for Reuben.
7 And by the border of Reuben, from the East quarter unto the West quarter, a portion for Judah.
8 And by the border of Judah from the East part unto the West part [b]shall be the offering which they shall offer of five and twenty thousand reeds broad, and of length as one of the other parts, from the East side unto the West side, and the Sanctuary shall be in the midst of it.
9 The oblation that ye shall offer unto the Lord, shall be of five and twenty thousand long, and of ten thousand the breadth.
10 And for them, even for the Priests shall be this holy oblation, toward the North five and twenty thousand long, and toward the West, ten thousand broad, and toward the East ten thousand broad, and toward the South five and twenty thousand long, and the Sanctuary of the Lord shall be in the midst thereof.
11 It shall be for the Priests that are sanctified of the sons of (A)Zadok, which have kept my charge, which went not astray, when the children of Israel went astray, as the Levites went astray.
12 Therefore this oblation of the land that is offered shall be theirs, as a thing most holy by the border of the Levites.
13 And over against the border of the Priests the Levites shall have five and twenty thousand long, and [ten] thousand broad: all the length shall be five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand.
14 And they shall not sell of it, neither change it, nor alienate the firstfruits of the land: for it is holy unto the Lord.
15 And the five thousand that are left in the breadth over against the five and twenty thousand, shall be a profane place for the city, for housing, and for suburbs, and the city shall be in the midst thereof.
16 And these shall be the measures thereof, the North part five hundred and four thousand, and the South part [c]five hundred and four thousand, and the East part five hundred and four thousand, and the West part five hundred and four thousand.
17 And the suburbs of the city shall be toward the North two hundred and fifty, and toward the South two hundred and fifty, and toward the East two hundred and fifty, and toward the West two hundred and fifty.
18 And the residue in length over against the oblation of the holy portion shall be ten thousand Eastward, and ten thousand Westward: and it shall be over against the oblation of the holy portion, and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that serve in the city.
19 And they that serve in the city, shall be of all the tribes of Israel that shall serve therein.
20 All the oblation shall be five and twenty thousand with [d]five and twenty thousand: you shall offer this oblation foursquare for the Sanctuary, and for the possession of the city.
21 And the residue shall be for the prince on the one side and on the other of the oblation of the Sanctuary, and of the possession of the city, over against the five and twenty thousand of the oblation toward the East border, and Westward over against the five and twenty thousand toward the West border, over against shall be for the portion of the prince: this shall be the holy oblation, and the house of the Sanctuary shall be in the midst thereof.
22 Moreover, from the possession of the Levites, and from the possession of the city, that which is in the midst shall be the prince’s: between the border [e]of Judah, and between the border of Benjamin shall be the Princes.
23 And the rest of the tribes shall be thus: from the East part unto the West part, Benjamin shall be a portion.
24 And by the border of Benjamin, from the East side unto the West side, Simeon a portion.
25 And by the border of Simeon from the East part unto the West part, Issachar a portion.
26 And by the border of Issachar, from the East side unto the West, Zebulun a portion.
27 And by the border of Zebulun, from the East part unto the West part, Gad a portion.
28 And by the border of Gad at the South side, toward [f]Temath, the border shall be even from [g]Tamar, unto the waters of Meribah in Kadesh, and to the [h]river, that runneth into the main sea.
29 This is the land, which ye shall distribute unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their portions, saith the Lord God.
30 And these are the bounds of the city, on the North side five hundred, and four thousand measures.
31 And the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel, the gates Northward, one gate of Reuben, one gate of Judah, and one gate of Levi.
32 And at the East side five hundred and four thousand, and three gates, and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, and one gate of Dan.
33 And at the South side, five hundred and four thousand measures, and three ports, one gate of Simeon, one gate of Issachar, and one gate of Zebulun.
34 At the West side, five hundred and four thousand, with their three gates, one gate of Gad, one gate of Asher, and one gate of Naphtali.
