The Wall, Side Chambers, and West Building

Then he measured the wall of the house of Yahweh, six cubits; and the width of the (A)side chambers, four cubits, all around about the house on every side. (B)The side chambers were in three stories, [a]one above another, and [b]thirty in each story; and [c]the side chambers (C)extended to the wall which stood on [d]their inward side all around, that they might be fastened, and not be fastened into the wall of the house itself. The side chambers surrounding the house were wider at each successive story. Because the (D)structure surrounding the house went upward by stages on all sides of the house, therefore the width of the house increased as it went higher; and thus one went up from the lowest story to the highest by way of the [e]second story. I saw also that the house had a raised [f]platform all around; the foundations of the side chambers were a full rod of [g](E)six [h]long cubits in height. The [i]thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits. But the (F)free space between the side chambers belonging to the house 10 and the outer (G)chambers was twenty cubits in width all around the house on every side. 11 The [j]doorways of the [k]side chambers toward the (H)free space consisted of one doorway toward the north and another doorway toward the south; and the width of the place of the (I)free space was five cubits all around.

Then he measured the wall of the temple, six cubits thick; and the breadth of the side chambers, four cubits, round about the temple. And the side chambers were in three stories, one over another, thirty in each story. There were offsets[a] all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side chambers, so that they should not be supported by the wall of the temple. And the side chambers became broader as they rose[b] from story to story, corresponding to the enlargement of the offset[c] from story to story round about the temple; on the side of the temple a stairway led upward, and thus one went up from the lowest story to the top story through the middle story. I saw also that the temple had a raised platform round about; the foundations of the side chambers measured a full reed of six long cubits. The thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits; and the part of the platform which was left free was five cubits.[d] Between the platform[e] of the temple and the 10 chambers of the court was a breadth of twenty cubits round about the temple on every side. 11 And the doors of the side chambers opened on the part of the platform that was left free, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south; and the breadth of the part that was left free was five cubits round about.
