39 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.

Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.

Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.

And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.

Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord God; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:

10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord God.

11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.

12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.

13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord God.

14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.

15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.

16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.

17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord God; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.

18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.

19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord God.

21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward.

23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.

24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.

25 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;

26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.

27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;

28 Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.

God’s Destruction of Gog and His Hordes

39 “And you, son of man,[a] prophesy against Gog, and you must say, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Look! I am against you Gog, the head[b] leader of Meshech and Tubal, and I will turn you around, and I will drag you along, and I will bring you up from the remote areas of the north, and I will bring you against the mountains of Israel, and I will strike your bow from your left hand,[c] and your arrows from your right hand[d] I will cause to fall. On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all of your troops, and the peoples who are with you, to birds[e] of prey, birds of every wing,[f] and animals of the field I will give you as food. On the surface of the field you will fall, for I myself[g] have spoken,” declares[h] the Lord Yahweh. “And I will send fire against Magog and among the people inhabiting the coastlands in safety,[i] and they will know that I am Yahweh. And my holy name[j] I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and I will not let the name of my holiness be profaned anymore, and the nations will know that I am Yahweh, the holy one in Israel. Look! it is coming, and it will happen,” declares[k] the Lord Yahweh. “It is the day about which I have spoken.[l]

“ʻ“And the inhabitants of the towns[m] of Israel will go out, and they will set ablaze, and they will kindle a fire with a weapon[n] and a small shield and a shield,[o] with a bow and with arrows, and with hand clubs[p] and with spears,[q] and so they will light a fire with them, a fire lasting seven years.[r] 10 And they will not carry trees from the field, and they will not chop wood from the forests, for with the weapons[s] they will light a fire; and they will plunder those plundering them, and they will plunder those plundering them,”’ declares[t] the Lord Yahweh.

11 “‘“And then[u] on that day I will give to Gog a grave there[v] in Israel, The Valley of the Travelers, east of the sea,[w] and it will block[x] the travelers and Gog and all of his hordes[y] they will bury there, and they will call it the Valley of Hamon-Gog.[z] 12 And the house of Israel will bury them for seven months to cleanse the land. 13 All of the people of the land will bury them, and it will be an honor for them on the day when I appear,”’ declares[aa] the Lord Yahweh. 14 ʻ“And they will set apart men to continually[ab] go through the land burying the travelers,[ac] the ones left over on the surface of the land to cleanse it; for the whole of[ad] seven months they will explore it. 15 And the ones going through, they will go through within the land, and if anyone sees the bones of a person, then he will build beside it a sign to remain until the buriers have buried him in the Valley of Hamon-Gog.[ae] 16 And furthermore the name of the city there is Hamonah,[af] and thus they will cleanse the land.”’

17 “And you, son of man,[ag] thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘Say to all kinds of birds and animals of the field,[ah] “Be gathered, come be gathered from everywhere[ai] to my sacrifice that I am sacrificing for you, a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, and you will eat flesh, and you will drink blood. 18 Flesh of warriors you will eat, and the blood of leaders of the land you will drink; rams, young rams and goats, bulls, and the fattened animals of Bashan—all of them! 19 And you will eat fat until you are satiated,[aj] and you will drink blood until you are drunk[ak] from my sacrifice that I sacrifice for you, 20 and you will be satisfied at my table with horse and horsemen and warriors and every man of war,”’ declares[al] the Lord Yahweh. 21 “And I will display my glory among the nations, and all of the nations will see my judgment that I have executed and my hand that I have laid upon them.

22 “And the house of Israel will know that I am Yahweh their God from that day and beyond, 23 and the nations will know that because of their guilt the house of Israel went into exile, because[am] they acted unfaithfully against me, and I hid my face from them, and I gave them into the hand of their foes, and they fell by the sword, all of them. 24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgression I dealt with them, and I hid my face from them.

25 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob, and I will have compassion on all of the house of Israel, and I will be jealous[an] for my holy name.[ao] 26 And they will forget their disgrace and all of their infidelity that they displayed against me when they dwelt on their soil in safety[ap] with nobody making them afraid.[aq] 27 When I restore them from the nations and I gather them from the countries of their enemies, then I will show myself holy through them before the eyes of many nations. 28 And they will know that I am Yahweh their God, because of when I deported them into the nations, and I reassembled them to their soil, and I will not let any of them remain there any longer.[ar] 29 And I will not hide my face again from them when I pour out my Spirit over[as] the house of Israel,” declares[at] the Lord Yahweh.

Destruction of Gog

39 “You, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, thus says Adonai Elohim: ‘Behold, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. I will turn you around, drive you along, and lead you up from the extreme north. I will bring you upon the mountains of Israel. Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand. You will fall on the mountains of Israel—you, all your troops and the people that are with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of birds of prey and to the beasts of the field. You will fall on an open field, for I have spoken.’” It is a declaration of Adonai.

“I will send fire on Magog and on those who live securely in the islands. Then they will know that I am Adonai. So I will make My holy Name known among My people Israel. I will not let My holy Name be profaned anymore. The nations will know that I am Adonai, the Holy One in Israel. Behold, it is coming. It will be done”—it is a declaration of Adonai—“this is the day that I have spoken about.

“The inhabitants of Israel’s cities will go out and kindle fires with the weapons—shields and breastplates, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears. They will make fires with them for seven years. 10 They will not take wood out of the field or cut anything from the forests, for they will make fire from the weapons. They will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

11 “On that day, I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of the travelers east of the sea. It will block those who travel through, since they will bury Gog and all his multitude there. Then they will call it the valley of Hamon-Gog. [a] 12 The house of Israel will bury them for seven months, in order to cleanse the land. 13 All the people of the land will bury them. It will be memorable for them, a day when I am glorified.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

14 “Men will be continually set apart to travel through the land and bury the travelers remaining on the face of the land, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months, they will make their search. 15 When they travel through the land, if any sees a man’s bone, he will set up a sign by it, until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. 16 Hamonah will also be the name of the city. So they will cleanse the land.

17 “You, son of man”—thus says Adonai Elohim—“say to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘Assemble and come! Gather from all around to My sacrificial feast that I have prepared for you, a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. You will eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—as rams, lambs, goats, bulls—all of them fatlings of Bashan. 19 So you will eat fat until you are gorged and you will drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrificial feast that I have prepared for you. 20 You will be filled at My table with horses and horsemen, with mighty men and all the warriors.’” It is a declaration of Adonai.

Israel Will Know Adonai

21 “I will put My glory among the nations. All the nations will see My judgment that I will execute and My hand that I will lay on them. 22 The house of Israel will know that I am Adonai their God, from that day onward. 23 The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they broke faith with Me. So I hid My face from them and gave them into the hand of their enemies. All of them fell by the sword. 24 I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their transgressions. I hid My face from them.”

25 Therefore thus says Adonai Elohim: “Now I will restore Jacob from exile, when I have compassion on the whole house of Israel. I will be zealous for My holy Name. 26 They will bear their shame and all their disloyalty by which they broke faith with Me, when they were living securely in their land, with no one making them afraid. 27 When I have brought them back from the peoples and have gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, I will be sanctified in them in the eyes of many nations. 28 Then they will know that I am Adonai their God, since it was I who caused them to go into exile among the nations and I who will gather them back to their own land. I will never again leave them there. 29 I will never again hide My face from them. For I have poured out My Ruach upon the house of Israel.” It is a declaration of Adonai.
