² The idols^(A) speak deceitfully,
    diviners^(B) see visions that lie;
they tell dreams^(C) that are false,
    they give comfort in vain.^(D)
Therefore the people wander like sheep
    oppressed for lack of a shepherd.^(E)

⁷ “Awake, sword,^(A) against my shepherd,^(B)
    against the man who is close to me!”
    declares the Lord Almighty.
“Strike the shepherd,
    and the sheep will be scattered,^(C)
    and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
