29 In the tenth year [of the captivity of King Jehoiachin by the king of Babylon], in the tenth [month], on the twelfth [day] of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 Son of man, set your face toward Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.
3 Say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster [of sluggish and unwieldy strength] that lies in the midst of his [delta] streams, [boastfully] declaring, My river Nile is my own and I have made it for myself.
4 But I will put hooks in your jaws [O Egyptian dragon] and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales, and I will draw you up out of the midst of your streams with all the fish of your streams which stick to your scales.
5 And I will cast you forth into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers; you shall fall upon the open field and not be gathered up or buried. I have given you for food to the [wild] beasts of the earth and the birds of the heavens.
6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord [the Sovereign Ruler, Who calls forth loyalty and obedient service], because they have been a [deceitful] staff [made of fragile] reeds to the house of Israel.
7 When they grasped you with the hand and leaned upon you, you broke and tore their whole shoulder, and [by injuring their muscles made them so stiff and rigid that] they could do no more than stand.
8 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will bring a sword upon you and cut off man and beast from you,
9 And the land of Egypt shall be a desolation and a waste. And they shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord [the Sovereign Ruler, Who calls forth loyalty and obedient service]. Because you have said, The river is mine and I have made it,
10 Behold therefore, I am against you and against your streams, and I will make the land of Egypt an utter [plundered] waste and desolation [of subjection] from [northern] Migdol to [southern] Syene, even as far as the border of Ethiopia.
11 No foot of man shall pass through it [in travel], no foot of beast shall pass through it [in trade with other countries], neither shall [Egypt] be [truly] inhabited [again] for forty years.
12 And I will make the land of Egypt a desolation [plundered and reduced to subjection] in the midst of desolated (plundered and reduced to subjection) countries, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be a desolation forty years. I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and will disperse them through the countries.
13 Yet thus says the Lord God: At the end of [their] forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom they were scattered,(A)
14 And I will reverse the captivity of Egypt [as I will that of Israel] and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros [under Egypt], the land of their origin, and they shall be there a lowly kingdom.
15 It shall be the lowliest of the kingdoms, neither shall it [a]exalt itself any more above the nations; I will diminish [the Egyptians] so they shall never again rule over the nations.
16 And never again shall Egypt have the confidence and be the reliance of the house of Israel; their iniquity will be brought to remembrance whenever [Israel] looks toward them [for help]. They shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord God [Who demands loyalty and obedient service].
17 In the twenty-seventh year [after King Jehoiachin was taken to Babylon], in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
18 Son of man, [b]Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to render heavy service [at My bidding] against Tyre; every [soldier’s] head became bald and every shoulder was worn and peeled [with carrying loads of earth and stones for siege works]. Yet he had no remuneration from Tyre [in proportion to the time and labor expended in the thirteen years’ siege], either for himself or his army, for the work that he had done against it [for Me].
19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall carry off her great mass of people and of things (her riches) and take her spoil and take her prey, and it shall be the wages for his army.
20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor with which he served [against Tyre] because they did it for Me, says the Lord God.
21 In that day will I cause a horn to spring forth to the house of Israel and I will open your lips among them, and they shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord [the Sovereign Ruler, Who calls forth loyalty and obedient service].

Proclamation Against Egypt
29 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, (A)set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and (B)against all Egypt. 3 Speak, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
(C)“Behold, I am against you,
O Pharaoh king of Egypt,
O great (D)monster who lies in the midst of his rivers,
(E)Who has said, ‘My [a]River is my own;
I have made it for myself.’
4 But (F)I will put hooks in your jaws,
And cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales;
I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers,
And all the fish in your rivers will stick to your scales.
5 I will leave you in the wilderness,
You and all the fish of your rivers;
You shall fall on the [b]open (G)field;
(H)You shall not be picked up or [c]gathered.
(I)I have given you as food
To the beasts of the field
And to the birds of the heavens.
6 “Then all the inhabitants of Egypt
Shall know that I am the Lord,
Because they have been a (J)staff of reed to the house of Israel.
7 (K)When they took hold of you with the hand,
You broke and tore all their [d]shoulders;
When they leaned on you,
You broke and made all their backs quiver.”
8 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will bring (L)a sword upon you and cut off from you man and beast. 9 And the land of Egypt shall become (M)desolate and waste; then they will know that I am the Lord, because he said, ‘The River is mine, and I have made it.’ 10 Indeed, therefore, I am against you and against your rivers, (N)and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, (O)from [e]Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Ethiopia. 11 (P)Neither foot of man shall pass through it nor foot of beast pass through it, and it shall be uninhabited forty years. 12 (Q)I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate; and among the cities that are laid waste, her cities shall be desolate forty years; and I will (R)scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.”
13 ‘Yet, thus says the Lord God: “At the (S)end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom they were scattered. 14 I will bring back the captives of Egypt and cause them to return to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin, and there they shall be a (T)lowly kingdom. 15 It shall be the lowliest of kingdoms; it shall never again exalt itself above the nations, for I will diminish them so that they will not rule over the nations anymore. 16 No longer shall it be (U)the confidence of the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity when they turned to follow them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord God.” ’ ”
Babylonia Will Plunder Egypt
17 And it came to pass in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 18 “Son of man, (V)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to labor strenuously against Tyre; every head was made (W)bald, and every shoulder rubbed raw; yet neither he nor his army received wages from Tyre, for the labor which they expended on it. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I will give the land of Egypt to (X)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he shall take away her wealth, carry off her spoil, and remove her pillage; and that will be the wages for his army. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor, because they (Y)worked for Me,’ says the Lord God.
21 ‘In that day (Z)I will cause the [f]horn of the house of Israel to spring forth, and I will (AA)open your mouth to speak in their midst. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.’ ”

29 Im zehnten Jahr, am zwölften Tage des zehnten Monats, erging das Wort des Herrn an mich also:
2 Menschensohn, richte dein Angesicht wider den Pharao, den König von Ägypten, und weissage wider ihn und wider ganz Ägypten! 3 Sage und sprich: So spricht Gott, der Herr:
Siehe, ich will an dich, Pharao, du König von Ägypten,
du großes Krokodil, das mitten in seinen Strömen liegt
und spricht: „Mein ist der Strom, und ich habe ihn mir gemacht!“
4 So will ich dir denn Haken in deine Kinnbacken legen
und die Fische in deinen Strömen an deine Schuppen hängen
samt allen Fischen deiner Ströme;
und ich will dich herausziehen aus deinen Strömen
samt allen Fischen, die an deinen Schuppen hängen.
5 Und ich will dich samt allen Fischen deiner Ströme in die Wüste schleudern,
daß du auf dem Felde liegen bleibst.
Man wird dich weder zusammenlesen noch begraben,
sondern ich will dich den Tieren des Feldes und den Vögeln des Himmels
zur Speise geben!
6 Dann sollen alle Einwohner Ägyptens erkennen, daß ich der Herr bin,
weil sie für das Haus Israel ein Rohrstab gewesen sind.
7 Wenn sie dich in die Hand nahmen, so knicktest du ein
und durchstachst ihnen die ganze Schulter;
und wenn sie sich auf dich lehnten,
so zerbrachst du und machtest ihre Lenden wanken.
8 Darum spricht Gott, der Herr, also:
Siehe, ich will das Schwert über dich bringen
und Menschen und Vieh in dir ausrotten.
9 Und Ägyptenland soll zur Wüste und Einöde werden;
so sollen sie erfahren, daß ich der Herr bin.
Weil du sagst: „Der Strom ist mein, und ich habe ihn gemacht“,
10 darum siehe, will ich an dich und an deine Ströme,
und ich will Ägyptenland zur Wüstenei machen, zur dürren Einöde,
von Migdol bis nach Syene, bis an die Grenze Äthiopiens.
11 Keines Menschen Fuß soll es durchwandern,
auch keines Tieres Fuß soll es durchwandern,
und es soll vierzig Jahre lang unbewohnt bleiben.
12 Und ich will Ägyptenland inmitten anderer verwüsteter Länder zur Wüste machen,
und seine Städte sollen unter andern öden Städten
vierzig Jahre lang öde liegen.
Aber die Ägypter will ich unter die Heiden zerstreuen
und in die Länder versprengen.
13 Dennoch spricht Gott, der Herr, also:
Wenn die vierzig Jahre vollendet sind, will ich die Ägypter aus den Völkern,
unter welche sie zerstreut worden sind, wieder zusammenbringen;
14 und ich will die gefangenen Ägypter wiederbringen;
ja, in das Land Patros,
in das Land ihres Ursprungs, will ich sie zurückbringen,
daß sie daselbst ein bescheidenes Königreich seien.
15 Ja, es soll geringer sein als andere Königreiche,
daß es sich hinfort nicht über die Völker erheben soll.
Denn ich will sie also vermindern, daß sie nicht über die Völker herrschen sollen.
16 Sie werden auch für das Haus Israel hinfort keine Zuflucht mehr sein,
die an ihre Missetat erinnert, wenn sie sich zu ihnen wenden.
Und sie sollen erfahren, daß ich Gott, der Herr, bin.
17 Im siebenundzwanzigsten Jahr, im ersten Monat, am ersten Tage des Monats, erging das Wort des Herrn an mich also: 18 Menschensohn, Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, hat seine Heeresmacht schweren Dienst tun lassen gegen Tyrus. Alle Häupter sind abgeschoren und alle Schultern zerschunden; aber Lohn ist ihm und seinem Heer von Tyrus nicht gegeben worden für die Arbeit, die er wider sie getan hat.
19 Darum spricht Gott, der Herr, also:
Siehe, ich will Nebukadnezar, dem König von Babel,
Ägyptenland geben,
daß er sich dessen Reichtum aneigne
und es ausraube und ausplündere;
das soll seinem Heere als Lohn zuteil werden!
20 Als Sold für seine Arbeit, welche er verrichtet hat,
will ich ihm Ägyptenland geben,
weil sie für mich gearbeitet haben,
spricht Gott, der Herr.
21 Zu jener Zeit will ich dem Hause Israel ein Horn[a] wachsen lassen und dir in ihrer Mitte ein Auftun deines Mundes schenken, damit sie erfahren, daß ich der Herr bin.
