Lamentation over Tyre
27 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 Now you, mortal, raise a lamentation over Tyre, 3 and say to Tyre, which sits at the entrance to the sea, merchant of the peoples on many coastlands, Thus says the Lord God:
O Tyre, you have said,
‘I am perfect in beauty.’
4 Your borders are in the heart of the seas;
your builders made perfect your beauty.
5 They made all your planks
of fir trees from Senir;
they took a cedar from Lebanon
to make a mast for you.
6 From oaks of Bashan
they made your oars;
they made your deck of pines[a]
from the coasts of Cyprus,
inlaid with ivory.
7 Of fine embroidered linen from Egypt
was your sail,
serving as your ensign;
blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah
was your awning.
8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad
were your rowers;
skilled men of Zemer[b] were within you,
they were your pilots.
9 The elders of Gebal and its artisans were within you,
caulking your seams;
all the ships of the sea with their mariners were within you,
to barter for your wares.
10 Paras[c] and Lud and Put
were in your army,
your mighty warriors;
they hung shield and helmet in you;
they gave you splendour.
11 Men of Arvad and Helech[d]
were on your walls all round;
men of Gamad were at your towers.
They hung their quivers all round your walls;
they made perfect your beauty.
12 Tarshish did business with you out of the abundance of your great wealth; silver, iron, tin, and lead they exchanged for your wares. 13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you; they exchanged human beings and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. 14 Beth-togarmah exchanged for your wares horses, war-horses, and mules. 15 The Rhodians[e] traded with you; many coastlands were your own special markets; they brought you in payment ivory tusks and ebony. 16 Edom[f] did business with you because of your abundant goods; they exchanged for your wares turquoise, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and rubies. 17 Judah and the land of Israel traded with you; they exchanged for your merchandise wheat from Minnith, millet,[g] honey, oil, and balm. 18 Damascus traded with you for your abundant goods—because of your great wealth of every kind—wine of Helbon, and white wool. 19 Vedan and Javan from Uzal[h] entered into trade for your wares; wrought iron, cassia, and sweet cane were bartered for your merchandise. 20 Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding. 21 Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your favoured dealers in lambs, rams, and goats; in these they did business with you. 22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; they exchanged for your wares the best of all kinds of spices, and all precious stones, and gold. 23 Haran, Canneh, Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you. 24 These traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of coloured material, bound with cords and made secure; in these they traded with you.[i] 25 The ships of Tarshish travelled for you in your trade.
So you were filled and heavily laden
in the heart of the seas.
26 Your rowers have brought you
into the high seas.
The east wind has wrecked you
in the heart of the seas.
27 Your riches, your wares, your merchandise,
your mariners and your pilots,
your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise,
and all your warriors within you,
with all the company
that is with you,
sink into the heart of the seas
on the day of your ruin.
28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots
the countryside shakes,
29 and down from their ships
come all that handle the oar.
The mariners and all the pilots of the sea
stand on the shore
30 and wail aloud over you,
and cry bitterly.
They throw dust on their heads
and wallow in ashes;
31 they make themselves bald for you,
and put on sackcloth,
and they weep over you in bitterness of soul,
with bitter mourning.
32 In their wailing they raise a lamentation for you,
and lament over you:
‘Who was ever destroyed[j] like Tyre
in the midst of the sea?
33 When your wares came from the seas,
you satisfied many peoples;
with your abundant wealth and merchandise
you enriched the kings of the earth.
34 Now you are wrecked by the seas,
in the depths of the waters;
your merchandise and all your crew
have sunk with you.
35 All the inhabitants of the coastlands
are appalled at you;
and their kings are horribly afraid,
their faces are convulsed.
36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at you;
you have come to a dreadful end
and shall be no more for ever.’

27 Och HERRENS ord kom till mig; han sade:
2 Du människobarn, stäm upp en klagosång över Tyrus;
3 säg till Tyrus: Du som bor vid havets portar och driver köpenskap med folken, hän till många havsländer, så säger Herren, HERREN: O Tyrus, du säger själv: »Jag är skönhetens fullhet.»
4 Ja, dig som har ditt rike ute i havet, dig gjorde dina byggningsmän fullkomlig i skönhet.
5 Av cypress från Senir timrade de allt plankverk på dig; de hämtade en ceder från Libanon för att göra din mast.
6 Av ekar från Basan tillverkade de dina åror. Ditt däck prydde de med elfenben i ädelt trä från kittéernas öländer.
7 Ditt segel var av fint linne, med brokig vävnad från Egypten, och det stod såsom ditt baner. Mörkblått och purpurrött tyg från Elisas öländer hade du till soltält.
8 Sidons och Arvads invånare voro roddare åt dig; de förfarna män du själv hade, o Tyrus, dem tog du till skeppare.

12 Tarsis var din handelsvän, ty du var rik på allt slags gods silver, järn, tenn och bly gavs dig såsom betalning.
13 Javan, Tubal och Mesek, de drevo köpenskap med dig; trälar och kopparkärl gåvo de dig i utbyte.
14 Vagnshästar, ridhästar och mulåsnor gåvos åt dig såsom betalning från Togarmas land.
15 Dedans söner drevo köpenskap med dig ja, många havsländer drevo handel i din tjänst; elfenben och ebenholts tillförde de dig såsom hyllningsgåvor.
16 Aram var din handelsvän, ty du var rik på konstarbeten; karbunkelstenar, purpurrött tyg, brokiga vävnader och fint linne. koraller och rubiner gåvo de dig såsom betalning.
17 Juda och Israels land drevo köpenskap med dig; vete från Minnit, bakverk och honung, olja och balsam gåvo de dig i utbyte.
18 Damaskus var din handelsvän, ty du var rik på konstarbeten, ja, på allt slags gods; de kommo med vin från Helbon och med ull från Sahar.
19 Vedan och Javan gåvo dig spånad såsom betalning; konstsmitt järn och kassia och kalmus fick du i utbyte.
20 Dedan drev köpenskap hos dig med sadeltäcken att rida på.
21 Araberna och Kedars alla furstar, de drevo handel i din tjänst; med lamm och vädurar och bockar drevo de handel hos dig.
22 Sabas och Raemas köpmän drevo köpenskap med dig; kryddor av allra yppersta slag och alla slags ädla stenar och guld gåvo de dig såsom betalning.
23 Haran, Kanne och Eden, Sabas köpmän, Assur och Kilmad drevo köpenskap med dig.
24 De drevo köpenskap hos dig med sköna kläder, med mörkblå, brokigt vävda mantlar, med mångfärgade täcken, med välspunna, starka tåg, på din marknad.
25 Tarsis-skepp foro åstad med dina bytesvaror. Så fylldes du med gods och blev tungt lastad, där du låg i havet.
26 Och dina roddare förde dig åstad, ut på de vida vattnen. Då kom östanvinden och krossade dig. där du låg i havet.
27 Ditt gods, dina handels- och bytesvaror, dina sjömän och skeppare, dina läckors botare och dina bytesmäklare, allt krigsfolk på dig, allt manskap som fanns ombord på dig, de sjunka nu ned i havet, på ditt falls dag.
28 Vid dina skeppares klagorop bäva markerna,
29 och alla som ro med åror övergiva sina skepp; sjömän och alla skeppare på havet begiva sig i land.
30 De ropa högt över ditt öde och klaga bittert; de strö stoft på sina huvuden och vältra sig i aska.
31 De raka sig skalliga för din skull och hölja sig i sorgdräkt; de gråta över dig i bitter sorg, under bitter klagan.
32 Med jämmer stämma de upp en klagosång om dig, en klagosång över ditt öde: »Vem var såsom Tyrus, hon som nu ligger i det tysta ute i havet?»
33 Där dina handelsvaror sattes i land från havet mättade du många folk; med ditt myckna gods och dina många bytesvaror riktade du jordens konungar.
34 Men nu, då du har förlist och försvunnit ifrån havet, ned i vattnens djup, nu hava dina bytesvaror och allt ditt manskap sjunkit med dig.
35 Havsländernas alla inbyggare häpna över ditt öde, deras konungar stå rysande, med förfäran i sina ansikten.
36 Köpmännen ute bland folken vissla åt dig; du har tagit en ände med förskräckelse till evig tid.

A Lament Over Tyre
27 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, take up a lament(A) concerning Tyre. 3 Say to Tyre,(B) situated at the gateway to the sea,(C) merchant of peoples on many coasts, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘You say, Tyre,
“I am perfect in beauty.(D)”
4 Your domain was on the high seas;
your builders brought your beauty to perfection.(E)
5 They made all your timbers
of juniper from Senir[a];(F)
they took a cedar from Lebanon(G)
to make a mast for you.
6 Of oaks(H) from Bashan
they made your oars;
of cypress wood[b] from the coasts of Cyprus(I)
they made your deck, adorned with ivory.
7 Fine embroidered linen(J) from Egypt was your sail
and served as your banner;
your awnings were of blue and purple(K)
from the coasts of Elishah.(L)
8 Men of Sidon and Arvad(M) were your oarsmen;
your skilled men, Tyre, were aboard as your sailors.(N)
9 Veteran craftsmen of Byblos(O) were on board
as shipwrights to caulk your seams.
All the ships of the sea(P) and their sailors
came alongside to trade for your wares.
10 “‘Men of Persia,(Q) Lydia(R) and Put(S)
served as soldiers in your army.
They hung their shields(T) and helmets on your walls,
bringing you splendor.
11 Men of Arvad and Helek
guarded your walls on every side;
men of Gammad
were in your towers.
They hung their shields around your walls;
they brought your beauty to perfection.(U)
12 “‘Tarshish(V) did business with you because of your great wealth of goods;(W) they exchanged silver, iron, tin and lead for your merchandise.
13 “‘Greece,(X) Tubal and Meshek(Y) did business with you; they traded human beings(Z) and articles of bronze for your wares.
14 “‘Men of Beth Togarmah(AA) exchanged chariot horses, cavalry horses and mules for your merchandise.
15 “‘The men of Rhodes[c](AB) traded with you, and many coastlands(AC) were your customers; they paid you with ivory(AD) tusks and ebony.
16 “‘Aram[d](AE) did business with you because of your many products; they exchanged turquoise,(AF) purple fabric, embroidered work, fine linen,(AG) coral(AH) and rubies for your merchandise.
17 “‘Judah and Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat(AI) from Minnith(AJ) and confections,[e] honey, olive oil and balm(AK) for your wares.(AL)
18 “‘Damascus(AM) did business with you because of your many products and great wealth of goods.(AN) They offered wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar 19 and casks of wine from Izal(AO) in exchange for your wares: wrought iron, cassia(AP) and calamus.
20 “‘Dedan(AQ) traded in saddle blankets with you.
21 “‘Arabia(AR) and all the princes of Kedar(AS) were your customers; they did business with you in lambs, rams and goats.
22 “‘The merchants of Sheba(AT) and Raamah traded with you; for your merchandise they exchanged the finest of all kinds of spices(AU) and precious stones, and gold.(AV)
23 “‘Harran,(AW) Kanneh and Eden(AX) and merchants of Sheba, Ashur(AY) and Kilmad traded with you. 24 In your marketplace they traded with you beautiful garments, blue fabric, embroidered work and multicolored rugs with cords twisted and tightly knotted.
25 “‘The ships of Tarshish(AZ) serve
as carriers for your wares.
You are filled with heavy cargo
as you sail the sea.(BA)
26 Your oarsmen take you
out to the high seas.
But the east wind(BB) will break you to pieces
far out at sea.
27 Your wealth,(BC) merchandise and wares,
your mariners, sailors and shipwrights,
your merchants and all your soldiers,
and everyone else on board
will sink into the heart of the sea(BD)
on the day of your shipwreck.
28 The shorelands will quake(BE)
when your sailors cry out.
29 All who handle the oars
will abandon their ships;
the mariners and all the sailors
will stand on the shore.
30 They will raise their voice
and cry bitterly over you;
they will sprinkle dust(BF) on their heads
and roll(BG) in ashes.(BH)
31 They will shave their heads(BI) because of you
and will put on sackcloth.
They will weep(BJ) over you with anguish of soul
and with bitter mourning.(BK)
32 As they wail and mourn over you,
they will take up a lament(BL) concerning you:
“Who was ever silenced like Tyre,
surrounded by the sea?(BM)”
33 When your merchandise went out on the seas,(BN)
you satisfied many nations;
with your great wealth(BO) and your wares
you enriched the kings of the earth.
34 Now you are shattered by the sea
in the depths of the waters;
your wares and all your company
have gone down with you.(BP)
35 All who live in the coastlands(BQ)
are appalled(BR) at you;
their kings shudder with horror
and their faces are distorted with fear.(BS)
36 The merchants among the nations scoff at you;(BT)
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.(BU)’”
