Israel’s Continuing Rebellion
20 In the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, certain elders of Israel came to consult the Lord, and sat down before me. 2 And the word of the Lord came to me: 3 Mortal, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them: Thus says the Lord God: Why are you coming? To consult me? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not be consulted by you. 4 Will you judge them, mortal, will you judge them? Then let them know the abominations of their ancestors, 5 and say to them: Thus says the Lord God: On the day when I chose Israel, I swore to the offspring of the house of Jacob—making myself known to them in the land of Egypt—I swore to them, saying, I am the Lord your God. 6 On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands. 7 And I said to them, Cast away the detestable things your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the Lord your God. 8 But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; not one of them cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt.
Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. 9 But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt. 10 So I led them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness. 11 I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, by whose observance everyone shall live. 12 Moreover I gave them my sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, so that they might know that I the Lord sanctify them. 13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not observe my statutes but rejected my ordinances, by whose observance everyone shall live; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned.
Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make an end of them. 14 But I acted for the sake of my name, so that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. 15 Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land that I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands, 16 because they rejected my ordinances and did not observe my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols. 17 Nevertheless my eye spared them, and I did not destroy them or make an end of them in the wilderness.
18 I said to their children in the wilderness, Do not follow the statutes of your parents, nor observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols. 19 I the Lord am your God; follow my statutes, and be careful to observe my ordinances, 20 and hallow my sabbaths that they may be a sign between me and you, so that you may know that I the Lord am your God. 21 But the children rebelled against me; they did not follow my statutes, and were not careful to observe my ordinances, by whose observance everyone shall live; they profaned my sabbaths.
Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness. 22 But I withheld my hand, and acted for the sake of my name, so that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. 23 Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries, 24 because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes and profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes were set on their ancestors’ idols. 25 Moreover I gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live. 26 I defiled them through their very gifts, in their offering up all their firstborn, in order that I might horrify them, so that they might know that I am the Lord.
27 Therefore, mortal, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: In this again your ancestors blasphemed me, by dealing treacherously with me. 28 For when I had brought them into the land that I swore to give them, then wherever they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices and presented the provocation of their offering; there they sent up their pleasing odors, and there they poured out their drink offerings. 29 (I said to them, What is the high place to which you go? So it is called Bamah[a] to this day.) 30 Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Will you defile yourselves after the manner of your ancestors and go astray after their detestable things? 31 When you offer your gifts and make your children pass through the fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. And shall I be consulted by you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not be consulted by you.
32 What is in your mind shall never happen—the thought, “Let us be like the nations, like the tribes of the countries, and worship wood and stone.”
God Will Restore Israel
33 As I live, says the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, I will be king over you. 34 I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out; 35 and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face. 36 As I entered into judgment with your ancestors in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, says the Lord God. 37 I will make you pass under the staff, and will bring you within the bond of the covenant. 38 I will purge out the rebels among you, and those who transgress against me; I will bring them out of the land where they reside as aliens, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.
39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord God: Go serve your idols, every one of you now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols.
40 For on my holy mountain, the mountain height of Israel, says the Lord God, there all the house of Israel, all of them, shall serve me in the land; there I will accept them, and there I will require your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your sacred things. 41 As a pleasing odor I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and I will manifest my holiness among you in the sight of the nations. 42 You shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the country that I swore to give to your ancestors. 43 There you shall remember your ways and all the deeds by which you have polluted yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed. 44 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for my name’s sake, not according to your evil ways, or corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, says the Lord God.
A Prophecy against the Negeb
45 [b] The word of the Lord came to me: 46 Mortal, set your face toward the south, preach against the south, and prophesy against the forest land in the Negeb; 47 say to the forest of the Negeb, Hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord God, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you and every dry tree; the blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from south to north shall be scorched by it. 48 All flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it; it shall not be quenched. 49 Then I said, “Ah Lord God! they are saying of me, ‘Is he not a maker of allegories?’”

20 (A)Il settimo anno, il decimo giorno del quinto mese, alcuni anziani d’Israele vennero a consultare il Signore e si sedettero davanti a me. 2 La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
3 «Figlio d’uomo, parla agli anziani d’Israele e di’ loro: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Siete venuti per consultarmi? Com’è vero che io vivo, io non mi lascerò consultare da voi”, dice il Signore, Dio. 4 “Giudicali tu, figlio d’uomo, giudicali tu! Fa’ loro conoscere le abominazioni dei loro padri”. 5 Di’ loro: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Il giorno che io scelsi Israele e alzai la mano per fare un giuramento alla discendenza della casa di Giacobbe, e mi feci loro conoscere nel paese d’Egitto, alzai la mano per loro, dicendo: ‘Io sono il Signore, il vostro Dio’. Quel giorno alzai la mano, 6 giurando che li avrei fatti uscire dal paese d’Egitto per introdurli in un paese che io avevo cercato per loro, paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele, il più splendido di tutti i paesi. 7 Dissi loro: ‘Gettate via, ognuno di voi, le abominazioni che attirano i vostri sguardi e non vi contaminate con gli idoli d’Egitto; io sono il Signore, il vostro Dio!’
8 Ma essi si ribellarono a me e non vollero darmi ascolto; nessuno di essi gettò via le abominazioni che attiravano il loro sguardo e non abbandonarono gli idoli d’Egitto. Allora parlai di voler riversare su di loro il mio furore e di sfogare su di loro la mia ira in mezzo al paese d’Egitto. 9 Tuttavia io agii per amore del mio nome, perché non fosse profanato agli occhi delle nazioni in mezzo alle quali essi si trovavano, in presenza delle quali io mi ero fatto loro conoscere, allo scopo di farli uscire dal paese d’Egitto. 10 Così li condussi fuori dal paese d’Egitto e li guidai nel deserto. 11 Diedi loro le mie leggi e feci loro conoscere i miei precetti, per i quali l’uomo che li metterà in pratica vivrà. 12 A loro diedi anche i miei sabati perché servissero di segno tra me e loro, perché conoscessero che io sono il Signore che li santifico.
13 Ma la casa d’Israele si ribellò contro di me nel deserto; non camminarono secondo le mie leggi, rigettarono i miei precetti, per i quali l’uomo che li metterà in pratica vivrà, e profanarono gravemente i miei sabati; perciò io parlai di riversare su di loro il mio furore nel deserto, per distruggerli. 14 Io agii tuttavia per amore del mio nome, perché non fosse profanato agli occhi delle nazioni, in presenza delle quali io li avevo condotti fuori dall’Egitto. 15 Alzai perfino la mano nel deserto, giurando loro che non li avrei fatti entrare nel paese che avevo dato loro, paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele, il più splendido di tutti i paesi, 16 perché avevano rigettato i miei precetti, non avevano camminato secondo le mie leggi e avevano profanato i miei sabati, poiché il loro cuore andava dietro ai loro idoli. 17 Ma l’occhio mio li guardò con misericordia e non li distrussi, non li sterminai del tutto nel deserto, 18 ma dissi ai loro figli nel deserto: ‘Non camminate secondo i precetti dei vostri padri, non osservate le loro prescrizioni, non vi contaminate mediante i loro idoli! 19 Io sono il Signore, il vostro Dio; camminate secondo le mie leggi, osservate i miei precetti e metteteli in pratica. 20 Santificate i miei sabati e siano essi un segno fra me e voi, dal quale si conosca che io sono il Signore, il vostro Dio’.
21 Ma i figli si ribellarono a me, non camminarono secondo le mie leggi e non osservarono i miei precetti per metterli in pratica (le leggi per le quali l’uomo che le mette in pratica vivrà). Profanarono i miei sabati e perciò parlai di riversare su di loro il mio furore e di sfogare su di loro la mia ira nel deserto. 22 Tuttavia ritirai la mia mano e agii per amor del mio nome, perché non fosse profanato agli occhi delle nazioni, in presenza delle quali li avevo condotti fuori dall’Egitto. 23 Ma alzai pure la mano nel deserto, giurando loro che li avrei dispersi fra le nazioni e li avrei disseminati per tutti i paesi, 24 perché non mettevano in pratica i miei precetti, rigettavano le mie leggi, profanavano i miei sabati e i loro occhi andavano dietro agli idoli dei loro padri. 25 Diedi loro perfino delle leggi non buone e dei precetti per i quali non potevano vivere. 26 Li contaminai con i loro doni, quando facevano passare per il fuoco ogni primogenito, per ridurli alla desolazione affinché conoscessero che io sono il Signore”.
27 (B)«Perciò, figlio d’uomo, parla alla casa d’Israele e di’ loro: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “I vostri padri mi hanno ancora oltraggiato in questo, comportandosi perfidamente verso di me: 28 quando li ebbi introdotti nel paese che avevo giurato di dare loro, volsero i loro sguardi verso ogni alto colle e verso ogni albero verdeggiante; là offrirono i loro sacrifici, presentarono le loro offerte provocanti, misero i loro profumi di odore soave e sparsero le loro libazioni. 29 Io dissi loro: ‘Che cos’è l’alto luogo dove andate?’ Tuttavia si è continuato a chiamarlo alto luogo fino a oggi”.
30 Perciò, di’ alla casa d’Israele: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Quando vi contaminate seguendo le vie dei vostri padri e vi prostituite ai loro idoli esecrandi, 31 quando, offrendo i vostri doni e facendo passare per il fuoco i vostri figli, vi contaminate fino a oggi con tutti i vostri idoli, dovrei forse lasciarmi consultare da voi, casa d’Israele? Com’è vero che io vivo”, dice il Signore, Dio, “io non mi lascerò consultare da voi! 32 Non avverrà affatto quello che vi passa per la mente quando dite: ‘Noi saremo come le nazioni, come le famiglie degli altri paesi, e renderemo un culto al legno e alla pietra!’ 33 Com’è vero che io vivo”, dice il Signore, Dio, “con mano forte, con braccio disteso, con furore scatenato, io regnerò su di voi! 34 Vi condurrò fuori dai popoli, vi raccoglierò dai paesi dove sarete stati dispersi, con mano forte, con braccio disteso e con furore scatenato; 35 vi condurrò nel deserto dei popoli e verrò in giudizio con voi faccia a faccia. 36 Come venni in giudizio con i vostri padri nel deserto del paese d’Egitto, così verrò in giudizio con voi”, dice il Signore, Dio; 37 “vi farò passare sotto la verga e vi rimetterò nei vincoli del patto; 38 separerò da voi i ribelli e quelli che mi sono infedeli. Io li condurrò fuori dal paese dove sono stranieri, ma non entreranno nel paese d’Israele, e voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore”.
Promessa di restaurazione
39 (C)«A voi dunque, casa d’Israele, così parla il Signore, Dio: “Andate, servite ognuno i vostri idoli, poiché non volete ascoltarmi! Ma il mio santo nome non lo profanerete più con i vostri doni e con i vostri idoli! 40 Poiché sul mio monte santo, sull’alto monte d’Israele”, dice il Signore, Dio, “là tutti quelli della casa d’Israele, tutti coloro che saranno nel paese, mi serviranno; là io mi compiacerò di loro, là io chiederò le vostre offerte e le primizie dei vostri doni in tutto quello che mi consacrerete. 41 Io mi compiacerò di voi come di un profumo di odore soave, quando vi avrò condotti fuori dai popoli e vi avrò radunati dai paesi dove sarete stati dispersi; io sarò santificato in voi davanti alle nazioni. 42 Voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore, quando vi avrò condotti nella terra d’Israele, paese che giurai di dare ai vostri padri. 43 Là vi ricorderete della vostra condotta e di tutte le azioni con le quali vi siete contaminati; sarete disgustati di voi stessi, per tutte le malvagità che avete commesse. 44 Conoscerete che io sono il Signore, quando avrò agito con voi per amore del mio nome e non secondo la vostra condotta malvagia, né secondo le vostre azioni corrotte, o casa d’Israele!”, dice il Signore, Dio».

20 Und es geschah im siebten Jahr, am zehnten Tag des fünften Monats, dass etliche von den Ältesten Israels zu mir kamen, um den Herrn zu befragen; und sie setzten sich vor mir nieder.
2 Da erging das Wort des Herrn an mich folgendermaßen:
3 Menschensohn, rede zu den Ältesten Israels und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Um mich zu befragen, seid ihr gekommen? So wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott, der Herr, ich will mich von euch nicht befragen lassen!
4 Willst du sie richten? Willst du sie richten, Menschensohn? Halte ihnen die Gräuel ihrer Väter vor!
5 Und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht Gott, der Herr: An dem Tag, als ich Israel erwählte und dem Samen des Hauses Jakob schwor[a] und mich ihnen zu erkennen gab im Land Ägypten; ja, als ich ihnen schwor und sprach: Ich, der Herr, bin euer Gott!
6 — eben an jenem Tag, als ich ihnen schwor, sie aus dem Land Ägypten hinauszuführen in ein Land, das ich für sie ausersehen hatte, in dem Milch und Honig fließt und das eine Zierde vor allen Ländern ist,
7 da sprach ich zu ihnen: »Jeder werfe die Gräuel weg, die er vor seinen Augen hat; und verunreinigt euch nicht an den Götzen Ägyptens! Ich, der Herr, bin euer Gott.«
8 Sie aber waren widerspenstig gegen mich und wollten nicht auf mich hören; keiner von ihnen warf die Gräuel, die er vor seinen Augen hatte, weg, und die Götzen Ägyptens gaben sie nicht auf. Da nahm ich mir vor, meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten und meinen Zorn an ihnen zu vollstrecken mitten im Land Ägypten.
9 Aber ich handelte um meines Namens willen, damit er nicht entheiligt würde in den Augen der Heidenvölker, unter denen sie wohnten und vor deren Augen ich mich ihnen zu erkennen gegeben hatte, um sie aus dem Land Ägypten zu führen.
10 So führte ich sie denn aus dem Land Ägypten heraus und brachte sie in die Wüste,
11 und ich gab ihnen meine Satzungen und verkündete ihnen meine Rechtsbestimmungen, durch die der Mensch lebt, wenn er sie tut.
12 Ich gab ihnen auch meine Sabbate, die ein Zeichen sein sollten zwischen mir und ihnen, damit sie erkennen sollten, dass ich, der Herr, es bin, der sie heiligt.
13 Aber das Haus Israel war widerspenstig gegen mich in der Wüste; sie wandelten nicht in meinen Satzungen, sondern verwarfen meine Rechtsbestimmungen, durch die der Mensch lebt, wenn er sie tut, und meine Sabbate entheiligten sie sehr. Da nahm ich mir vor, meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten in der Wüste und sie aufzureiben.
14 Aber ich handelte um meines Namens willen, damit er nicht entheiligt würde in den Augen der Heidenvölker, vor deren Augen ich sie herausgeführt hatte.
15 Doch schwor ich ihnen auch in der Wüste, dass ich sie nicht in das Land bringen wolle, das ich ihnen bestimmt hatte, in dem Milch und Honig fließt und das eine Zierde vor allen Ländern ist,
16 weil sie meine Rechtsbestimmungen verworfen und nicht nach meinen Satzungen gelebt hatten, auch meine Sabbate entheiligt hatten, weil ihr Herz nur ihren Götzen nachging.
17 Dennoch verschonte sie mein Auge, sodass ich sie nicht verdarb und nicht gänzlich aufrieb in der Wüste.
18 Da sagte ich in der Wüste zu ihren Söhnen: Wandelt nicht in den Satzungen eurer Väter und befolgt ihre Sitten nicht und verunreinigt euch nicht mit ihren Götzen!
19 Ich, der Herr, bin euer Gott; wandelt in meinen Satzungen und befolgt meine Rechtsbestimmungen und tut sie;
20 und heiligt meine Sabbate, damit sie ein Zeichen sind zwischen mir und euch, damit ihr erkennt, dass ich, der Herr, euer Gott bin!
21 Aber [auch] die Söhne waren widerspenstig gegen mich, sie wandelten nicht in meinen Satzungen und befolgten meine Rechtsbestimmungen nicht, dass sie nach ihnen gehandelt hätten — obgleich der Mensch, wenn er sie tut, dadurch lebt; und sie entheiligten meine Sabbate. Da nahm ich mir vor, meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten und meinen Zorn an ihnen zu vollstrecken in der Wüste.
22 Aber ich zog meine Hand zurück und handelte um meines Namens willen, damit er in den Augen der Heidenvölker, vor deren Augen ich sie ausgeführt hatte, nicht entheiligt würde.
23 Doch schwor ich ihnen in der Wüste, dass ich sie unter die Heidenvölker zerstreuen und in die Länder versprengen würde,
24 weil sie meine Rechtsordnungen nicht befolgt und meine Satzungen verworfen hatten und meine Sabbate entheiligt und ihre Augen nach den Götzen ihrer Väter gerichtet hatten.
25 So habe auch ich ihnen Gesetze gegeben, die nicht gut waren, und Rechtsbestimmungen, durch die sie nicht leben konnten,
26 und ich ließ sie unrein werden durch ihre Opfergaben, indem sie alle ihre Erstgeburt durchs Feuer gehen ließen, damit ich sie verwüstete, damit sie erkennen sollten, dass ich der Herr bin.
27 Darum, o Menschensohn, rede zu dem Haus Israel und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Auch dadurch haben mich eure Väter gelästert, dass sie treulos an mir handelten:
28 Denn als ich sie in das Land gebracht hatte, betreffs dessen ich geschworen hatte, dass ich es ihnen geben wolle, da ersahen sie jeden hohen Hügel und jeden dicht belaubten Baum und schlachteten dort ihre Opfer und brachten dort ihre Gaben dar, um mich zu ärgern,[b] und legten dort ihr lieblich duftendes Räucherwerk nieder und gossen dort ihre Trankopfer aus.
29 Da fragte ich sie: Was soll diese Höhe, wohin ihr geht? Daher nennt man sie »Höhe« bis zu diesem Tag.
Der Herr tadelt die jetzige Generation der Israeliten
30 Darum sprich zum Haus Israel: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Verunreinigt ihr euch nicht nach der Weise eurer Väter und hurt ihren Götzen nach?
31 Ja, durch die Darbringung eurer Gaben, dadurch, dass ihr eure Kinder durchs Feuer gehen lasst, verunreinigt ihr euch an allen euren Götzen bis zu diesem Tag; und ich sollte mich von euch befragen lassen, ihr vom Haus Israel? So wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott, der Herr, ich will mich von euch nicht befragen lassen!
32 Und was euch in den Sinn gekommen ist, dass ihr sagt: »Wir wollen sein wie die Heidenvölker, wie die Geschlechter der Länder, indem wir Holz und Stein dienen«, das soll nicht geschehen!
33 So wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott, der Herr, ich will selbst mit starker Hand, mit ausgestrecktem Arm und mit ausgeschüttetem Grimm über euch herrschen;
34 und ich will euch aus den Völkern herausführen und euch aus den Ländern sammeln, in die ihr zerstreut worden seid, mit starker Hand, mit ausgestrecktem Arm und mit ausgeschüttetem Grimm;
35 und ich will euch in die Wüste der Völker führen und dort mit euch ins Gericht gehen von Angesicht zu Angesicht.
36 Wie ich in der Wüste des Landes Ägypten mit euren Vätern ins Gericht gegangen bin, so will ich auch mit euch ins Gericht gehen, spricht Gott, der Herr.
37 Ich will euch unter dem Stab hindurchgehen lassen[c] und euch in die Bundesverpflichtungen einführen.
38 Und ich will die Widerspenstigen und die von mir Abgefallenen von euch absondern; ich will sie aus dem Land ihrer Fremdlingschaft herausführen, aber in das Land Israel soll keiner von ihnen kommen; und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin.
Die Wiederherstellung Israels wird verheißen
39 So geht nur, spricht Gott, der Herr, ihr vom Haus Israel, und dient nur jeder seinen Götzen! Aber danach werdet ihr gewiss auf mich hören und meinen heiligen Namen künftig nicht mehr mit euren Gaben und mit euren Götzen entheiligen.
40 Denn auf meinem heiligen Berg, auf dem erhabenen Berg Israels, spricht Gott, der Herr, dort wird mir das ganze Haus Israel dienen, sie alle, [die] im Land [sind]; dort will ich sie gnädig annehmen; und dort will ich eure Hebopfer fordern und eure Erstlingsgaben und alles, was ihr heiligt.
41 Als einen lieblichen Geruch will ich euch gnädig annehmen, wenn ich euch aus den Völkern herausführe und euch sammle aus den Ländern, in die ihr zerstreut worden seid, damit ich an euch geheiligt werde vor den Augen der Heidenvölker.
42 Und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich euch in das Land Israel führe, in das Land, von dem ich geschworen hatte, dass ich es euren Vätern geben werde.
43 Dort werdet ihr an eure Wege gedenken und an alle eure Taten, mit denen ihr euch verunreinigt habt; und ihr werdet Abscheu über euch selbst empfinden wegen aller eurer bösen Taten, die ihr begangen habt.
44 Und ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich mit euch handeln werde um meines Namens willen und nicht nach eurem bösen Wandel und euren ruchlosen Taten, Haus Israel!, spricht Gott, der Herr.

20 A száműzetés hetedik évében[a], az ötödik hónap tizedik napján néhányan Izráel népének vezetői közül meg akarták kérdezni az Örökkévalót, ezért eljöttek hozzám, és leültek előttem.
2 Akkor az Örökkévaló szava érkezett hozzám: 3 „Ember fia, ezt mondd Izráel vezetőinek: Ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló: Azért jöttetek, hogy megkérdezzetek? Amilyen igaz, hogy élek, olyan biztos, hogy nem kaptok választ tőlem!
4 Ember fia, hirdess ítéletet nekik, hirdess ítéletet! Tárd eléjük őseik rettenetes bűneit, hogy megértsék és felfogják, mit követtek el! 5 Ezt mondd nekik: Azt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló: Azon a napon, amelyen kiválasztottam magamnak Izráelt, esküre emeltem kezem Jákób családjának, és kijelentettem magam nekik Egyiptom földjén. Esküre emelt kézzel mondtam: Én vagyok az Örökkévaló, Istenetek! 6 Azon a napon megesküdtem nekik, hogy kihozom őket Egyiptomból, és beviszem arra a földre, amelyet számukra kiszemeltem, a tejjel és mézzel folyó földre, amely az egész föld színe-java.
7 Azon a napon ezt mondtam nekik: férfiak, utálatos bálványaitokat messzire hajítsátok, szemetek elé se kerüljenek többé! Egyiptom bálványisteneivel se mocskoljátok be magatokat, mert én vagyok az Örökkévaló, Istenetek! 8 De nem hallgattak rám, hanem ellenem lázadtak, utálatos bálványaikat nem hajították el, hanem tekintetük azokra tapadt, sőt, Egyiptom bálványisteneit sem hagyták el. Azt mondtam hát, hogy haragomban elpusztítom őket, Egyiptom földjén bosszúságomban végzek velük. 9 Nevemért mégis meggondoltam magam, s nem pusztítottam el őket. Megkegyelmeztem nekik, hogy ne gyalázzák nevem azok a népek, akiknek szeme láttára hoztam ki Izráelt Egyiptom földjéről, s akik ezáltal ismerték meg hatalmam és nevem.
10 Így hát Izráelt Egyiptomból kivezettem, s a pusztába vittem, kietlen vidékre. 11 Ott adtam nekik a törvényeimet, tudattam velük rendelkezéseimet, melyek által él, aki engedelmeskedik. 12 Nekik adtam a szombati nyugalom napját, hogy jel legyen köztem és közöttük, hogy megtudják: én, az Örökkévaló választom külön őket, hogy népemmé legyenek!
13 Izráel népe fellázadt ellenem a pusztában, nem követték törvényeimet, nem törődtek parancsaimmal, melyek által él, aki engedelmeskedik azoknak. Nem tartották meg a szombati nyugalom napját. Azt mondtam hát, hogy haragomban elpusztítom őket, a pusztában végzek velük. 14 Mégis, az én nevemért megkegyelmeztem nekik. Nem pusztítottam el őket, hogy ne gyalázzák nevem azok a népek, akiknek szeme láttára hoztam ki Izráelt Egyiptom földjéről. 15 De esküre emeltem kezem, ott a pusztában, hogy nem fognak bemenni a földre, amelyet nekik adtam, a tejjel és mézzel folyó földre, amely az egész föld színe-java. 16 Nem mehetnek be, mivel nem követték törvényeimet, nem törődtek parancsaimmal, nem tartották meg a szombati nyugalom napját, és szívük a saját bálványaik után kívánkozott!
17 Szívem mégis megesett rajtuk, nem pusztítottam el őket a pusztában, nem irtottam ki népemet teljesen. 18 Fiaiknak azonban ezt mondtam a pusztában: Ne kövessétek apáitok példáját, ne járjatok útjaikon, bálványisteneikkel ne mocskoljátok be magatokat! 19 Én, az Örökkévaló vagyok Istenetek, igazodjatok törvényeimhez és kövessétek parancsaimat! 20 Tartsátok meg a szombati nyugalom napját! Legyen az jel köztem és közöttetek, s hogy megértsétek és igazán megtudjátok: Én, az Örökkévaló vagyok Istenetek!
21 De fiaik is ellenem lázadtak, nem követték törvényeimet, nem törődtek parancsaimmal, melyek által él, aki engedelmeskedik azoknak. Nem tartották meg a szombati nyugalom napját. Azt mondtam hát, hogy haragomban elpusztítom őket, a pusztában végzek velük.
22 Nevemért mégis meggondoltam magam, felemelt kezemet visszavontam. Megkegyelmeztem nekik, hogy ne gyalázzák nevemet azok a népek, akiknek szeme láttára kihoztam őket Egyiptom földjéről. 23 De esküre emeltem kezem, ott a pusztában, hogy szétszórom őket a népek közé, elszélesztem népemet a föld országaiban, 24 mivel nem követték törvényeimet, nem törődtek parancsaimmal, nem tartották meg a szombati nyugalom napját, szemük és szívük apáik bálványait imádta.
25 Ezért én is adtam nekik olyan törvényeket, amelyek nem jók; és rendelkezéseket, amelyek nem hoznak életet. 26 Hagytam, hogy bemocskolják magukat a bálványoknak vitt áldozati ajándékaikkal. Még elsőszülöttjeiket is feláldozták a bálványoknak! Ezért elpusztítom őket! Akkor majd megtudják, hogy én vagyok az Örökkévaló!”
27 „Ember fia, szólj Izráel népéhez: Ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló: Őseitek gyaláztak engem, hűtlenül elhagytak, súlyosan vétkeztek ellenem. 28 Mert bevittem őket arra a földre, amelyről esküvel ígértem, hogy nekik adom, ők pedig minden zöldellő fa alatt bálványokat imádtak, minden dombon azoknak áldoztak, édes illatokkal füstöltek, ital-áldozatot öntöttek, hogy engem haragra ingereljenek. 29 Miért jártok még mindig a bálványokhoz a magaslatokra? — kérdeztem őket. Mert azok még ma is fontosak a számotokra!
30 Mondd meg Izráel népének: Ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló: Ugye, hogy ti is őseitek módjára imádjátok bálványaitokat? Ti is ugyanazokkal az utálatos bálványokkal paráználkodtok? 31 Bizony, amikor ajándékaitokat hozzájuk viszitek, gyermekeiteket nekik áldozzátok a tűzben, bemocskoljátok magatokat bálványaitokkal, mind a mai napig! És még azt várjátok, hogy feleljek nektek?! Amilyen igaz, hogy élek, oly biztos, hogy nem kaptok feleletet, Izráel népe!” — ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló. — 32 „Nem lesz abból semmi, amit lelketek mélyén kívántok: »Legyünk olyanok, mint a többi népek, mint a többi országok nemzetei, imádjuk mi is a kő- és fa-isteneket!«
33 Oly biztos, mint ahogy élek — ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló —, hogy királyotok maradok, erős kézzel, kinyújtott karral, és kiáradó haraggal uralkodom rajtatok! 34 Kivezetlek titeket a népek közül, és újra összegyűjtelek az országokból, ahová szétszóródtatok, erős kézzel, kinyújtott karral, és kiáradó haraggal! 35 Kiviszlek titeket a népek pusztájába, ahol szemtől szembe perelek majd veletek. 36 Amint őseitekkel pereltem Egyiptom pusztájában, úgy perelek veletek is — ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló. —
37 Át kell majd mennetek a pásztorbotom alatt, és örök szövetséget[b] kötök veletek. 38 Kigyomlálom közületek azokat, akik lázadnak és súlyosan vétkeznek ellenem: kihozom ezeket is a népek közül, de Izráel földjére nem mehetnek be. Akkor majd megértitek és elismeritek, hogy én vagyok az Örökkévaló!
39 Ti pedig, ó Izráel népe — ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló —, ha bálványaitokat akarjátok imádni, ám szolgáljátok őket, ha rám nem akartok hallgatni! De azután már nem fogjátok bemocskolni szent nevemet a bálványoknak vitt ajándékokkal!
40 Mert szent hegyemen, Izráel magas hegyén — ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló —, majd ott imádtok engem mind, Izráel népe. Ott majd magamhoz fogadlak titeket, ajándékaitokat szívesen veszem, termésetek színe-javát és mindazt, amit nekem hoztok, örömmel fogadom. 41 Mint a tömjén kedves illatát, úgy fogadlak majd benneteket, mikor kivezetlek titeket a népek közül, és újra összegyűjtelek az országokból, ahová szétszóródtatok. Így mutatom meg a népeknek szent nevemet! 42 Ti is így értitek meg, s akkor tudjátok meg igazán, hogy én vagyok az Örökkévaló, aki ismét beviszlek titeket Izráel földjére, amelyet esküre emelt kézzel őseiteknek ígértem!
43 Ott majd magatokba szálltok, visszaemlékeztek utálatos bűneitekre, amelyek beszennyeztek titeket, és megutáljátok magatokat gonosz tetteitek miatt. 44 Akkor értitek meg, így tudjátok meg igazán, hogy én vagyok az Örökkévaló, aki az én nevemért jól bánok veletek, nem pedig gonosz életmódotok és igazságtalan tetteitek szerint, ó Izráel népe!” — ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló.
45 Az Örökkévaló szava érkezett hozzám:
46 „Ember fia, fordulj dél felé, és szólj hozzá, prófétálj Negev vidékének erdeje[c] ellen! 47 Ezt mondd Negev erdejének: Halld meg az Örökkévaló szavát! Ezt mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló: Lásd, én tüzet gyújtok benned, amely megemészt minden zöldellő fát, eléget minden kiszáradt fát, lobogó lángját semmi el nem oltja, felperzseli az országot egyik végétől a másikig egészen. 48 Látni fogja mindenki, hogy én gyújtottam azt a tüzet, hát el nem olthatja senki!”
49 Akkor én, Ezékiel, felkiáltottam: „Jaj, Uram, Örökkévaló! Az emberek mind azt mondják erre: »Ne törődjetek vele, ez mindig rejtélyes példázatokban beszél!«”

20 Le dixième jour du cinquième mois de la septième année[a], quelques responsables du peuple d’Israël vinrent consulter l’Eternel. Ils s’assirent devant moi. 2 Alors l’Eternel m’adressa la parole en ces termes :
3 Fils d’homme, parle aux responsables du peuple d’Israël et dis-leur : « Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Vous osez venir me consulter ? Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare. »
4 Fils d’homme, porte un jugement sur eux ! N’hésite pas à le faire ! Dénonce les actions abominables que leurs ancêtres ont commises, 5 et dis-leur : « Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Le jour où j’ai choisi Israël, j’ai prêté serment envers les descendants de Jacob. Je me suis révélé à eux en Egypte, et je leur ai prêté serment en disant : Je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu[b]. 6 Ce jour-là, je leur ai juré de les faire sortir d’Egypte pour les amener dans un pays que j’avais recherché pour eux, un pays ruisselant de lait et de miel, le plus beau de tous les pays. 7 Je leur ai dit alors : Que chacun de vous rejette les idoles abominables qu’il a sous les yeux. Ne vous rendez pas impurs avec les idoles de l’Egypte. Je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu.
8 Mais ils se sont révoltés contre moi et n’ont pas voulu m’écouter. Aucun d’eux n’a rejeté les idoles abominables qu’il avait sous les yeux ; ils n’ont pas abandonné les idoles de l’Egypte. Je me proposai alors de répandre ma fureur sur eux et d’assouvir ma colère contre eux en Egypte. 9 Mais j’ai agi par égard pour ma renommée, pour que je ne sois pas méprisé par les peuples parmi lesquels ils habitaient, car je m’étais fait connaître à eux sous les yeux de ces peuples dans le but de les faire sortir d’Egypte. 10 Je les ai donc fait sortir d’Egypte et je les ai conduits au désert. 11 Je leur ai donné mes lois et je leur ai fait connaître mes commandements qui font obtenir la vie à celui qui les applique. 12 Je leur ai aussi fait don de mes jours de sabbat pour qu’ils servent de signe entre moi et eux, pour qu’ils sachent que moi, l’Eternel, je fais d’eux un peuple saint.
13 Mais la communauté d’Israël s’est révoltée contre moi dans le désert, ils n’ont pas vécu selon mes lois et ils ont rejeté mes commandements qui font obtenir la vie à celui qui les applique. Ils ont constamment profané mes jours de sabbat. Je me suis proposé alors de déchaîner ma colère contre eux dans le désert pour les exterminer[c]. 14 Mais j’ai agi par égard pour ma renommée, pour que je ne sois pas méprisé par les peuples sous les yeux desquels je les avais fait sortir d’Egypte. 15 Je leur ai pourtant juré dans le désert de ne pas les faire entrer dans le pays que je leur avais destiné, ce pays ruisselant de lait et de miel, le plus beau de tous les pays. 16 J’en ai fait le serment parce qu’ils avaient méprisé mes commandements, qu’ils n’avaient pas obéi à mes lois et qu’ils avaient profané mes jours de sabbat, car leur cœur restait attaché à leurs idoles. 17 Mais, en les voyant, j’ai eu trop pitié d’eux pour les détruire, aussi je ne les ai pas exterminés dans le désert.
La révolte des fils
18 Cependant, j’ai dit à leurs enfants dans le désert : Ne suivez pas les principes de vos pères, n’appliquez pas leurs règles et ne vous rendez pas impurs avec leurs idoles. 19 Je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu. Vivez selon mes lois, obéissez à mes commandements et appliquez-les. 20 Faites de mes jours de sabbat des jours saints pour qu’ils servent de signe entre moi et vous, afin que vous reconnaissiez que moi, l’Eternel, je suis votre Dieu. 21 Mais les fils aussi se sont révoltés contre moi. Ils n’ont pas vécu selon mes lois ; ils n’ont pas observé ni appliqué mes commandements qui font obtenir la vie à ceux qui les appliquent. Ils ont profané mes jours de sabbat. J’ai parlé alors de répandre ma fureur sur eux et d’assouvir ma colère contre eux dans le désert. 22 Cependant, j’ai retenu ma main et j’ai agi par égard pour ma renommée, pour que je ne sois pas méprisé par les peuples, sous les yeux desquels je les avais fait sortir d’Egypte.
23 Pourtant, encore une fois, je leur jurai dans le désert de les disperser parmi des peuples étrangers et de les disséminer en divers pays étrangers, 24 parce qu’ils n’avaient pas appliqué mes commandements, qu’ils avaient méprisé mes lois, profané mes jours de sabbat et que leurs regards restaient tournés vers les idoles de leurs pères. 25 C’est pourquoi je leur ai donné des lois qui leur étaient funestes et des commandements qui ne pouvaient les faire vivre[d]. 26 Je les ai rendus impurs par leurs offrandes quand ils sacrifiaient tous leurs premiers-nés, pour les frapper de stupeur afin qu’ils reconnaissent que je suis l’Eternel[e]. »
Les infidélités dans le pays promis
27 C’est pourquoi, fils d’homme, parle à la communauté d’Israël, et dis-leur : « Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Vos ancêtres m’ont outragé par leurs rébellions contre moi. 28 Je les ai fait entrer dans le pays que j’avais juré de leur donner. Or, partout où ils ont vu une colline élevée ou un arbre vert, ils ont offert leurs sacrifices et ils ont présenté leurs offrandes qui m’irritaient ; ils y ont apporté leurs parfums apaisants et y ont répandu leurs libations. 29 Je leur ai demandé alors : Qu’est-ce que ce haut lieu où vous vous rendez ? Et ce nom de “haut lieu” a subsisté jusqu’à ce jour. »
30 C’est pourquoi, dis à la communauté d’Israël : « Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Ne vous rendez-vous pas impurs en suivant le chemin de vos ancêtres ? Ne vous prostituez-vous pas à leurs idoles abominables ? 31 Quand vous présentez vos offrandes, quand vous faites passer vos enfants par le feu pour les offrir en sacrifice, vous continuez encore aujourd’hui à vous rendre impurs avec toutes vos idoles. Et vous croyez que je vais me laisser consulter par vous, gens d’Israël ? Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous.
Un nouveau commencement
32 Le rêve qui hante votre esprit ne se réalisera pas. Car vous dites : “Nous voulons être comme les gens des autres nations, comme les peuples des autres pays, nous voulons aussi rendre un culte à des dieux en bois et en pierre.” 33 Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare, je régnerai sur vous en déployant ma force et ma puissance et en déchaînant ma colère. 34 J’interviendrai en déployant ma force et ma puissance et en déchaînant ma colère, pour vous faire sortir du milieu des peuples, et je vous rassemblerai des pays étrangers où vous avez été dispersés. 35 Je vous amènerai au désert à l’écart des autres peuples, et là, je vous jugerai face à face[f]. 36 Tout comme j’ai jugé vos ancêtres dans le désert d’Egypte, je vous jugerai vous aussi, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare. 37 Je vous ferai passer sous ma houlette[g], et je vous lierai de nouveau à moi par l’alliance[h]. 38 J’éliminerai du milieu de vous ceux qui se révoltent et qui se rendent coupables envers moi. Je les ferai sortir des pays étrangers où ils habitent, mais ils n’entreront pas dans le pays d’Israël[i], et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis l’Eternel.
39 Et maintenant, gens d’Israël, voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Que chacun de vous aille adorer ses idoles ! Et après cela, on verra bien si vous refusez de m’écouter et si vous continuez à me profaner par vos offrandes et par vos idoles, moi qui suis saint. 40 Car c’est sur ma montagne sainte, sur la haute montagne d’Israël, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare, que vous, toute la communauté d’Israël, c’est-à-dire tous ceux qui seront dans le pays, me rendront un culte. Là, je vous accepterai, là, j’accueillerai avec plaisir vos offrandes et les prémices de vos dons, et tout ce que vous me consacrerez. 41 Je vous agréerai[j] comme un parfum apaisant, quand je vous aurai fait sortir du milieu des peuples et que je vous aurai rassemblés des pays étrangers où vous aurez été dispersés ; et je manifesterai par mon œuvre en votre faveur ma sainteté aux yeux des autres peuples. 42 Vous reconnaîtrez que je suis l’Eternel quand je vous aurai ramenés au pays d’Israël, que j’ai juré de donner à vos ancêtres. 43 Là aussi, vous vous souviendrez de votre conduite et de toutes les mauvaises actions par lesquelles vous vous êtes rendus impurs. Vous serez pris de dégoût de vous-mêmes à cause de tout le mal que vous avez commis. 44 Et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis l’Eternel quand j’agirai ainsi envers vous par égard pour ma renommée, au lieu de vous traiter selon votre mauvaise conduite et vos actes dépravés, gens d’Israël, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare. »
