Ezekiel 1:25-28
New English Translation
25 Then there was a voice from above the platform over their heads when they stood still.[a] 26 Above the platform over their heads was something like a sapphire shaped like a throne. High above on the throne was a form that appeared to be a man. 27 I saw an amber glow[b] like a fire enclosed all around[c] from his waist up. From his waist down I saw something that looked like fire. There was a brilliant light around it, 28 like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds after the rain.[d] This was the appearance of the surrounding brilliant light; it looked like the glory of the Lord. When I saw[e] it, I threw myself face down, and I heard a voice speaking.

- Ezekiel 1:25 tc The MT continues: “when they stood still, they lowered their wings,” an apparent dittography from the end of v. 24. The LXX commits haplography by homoioteleuton, leaving out vv. 25b and 26a by skipping from רֹאשָׁם (roʾsham, “their head”) in v. 25 to רֹאשָׁם in v. 26.

- Ezekiel 1:27 tc The LXX lacks this phrase. Its absence from the LXX may be explained as a case of haplography resulting from homoioteleuton, skipping from כְּמַרְאֵה (kemarʾeh) to מִמַּרְאֵה (mimmarʾeh). On the other hand, the LXX presents a much more balanced verse structure when it is recognized that the final words of this verse belong in the next sentence.
- Ezekiel 1:28 sn Reference to the glowing substance and the brilliant light and storm phenomena in vv. 27-28a echoes in reverse order the occurrence of these phenomena in v. 4.
- Ezekiel 1:28 tn The vision closes with the repetition of the verb “I saw” from the beginning of the vision in 1:4.

26 Now (B)above the expanse that was over their heads there was something in the (C)likeness of a throne, like (D)sapphire stone in appearance; and upon the likeness of the throne, high up, was the likeness of one with the appearance of a (E)man. 27 Then I saw from the appearance of His loins and upward something (F)like the gleam of [a]glowing metal with the appearance of fire all around within it, and from the appearance of His loins and downward I saw something with the appearance of fire; and there was a radiance all around Him. 28 As the appearance of the (G)rainbow [b]in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the radiance all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the (H)glory of Yahweh. And I saw this, and I (I)fell on my face and heard a sound of a voice speaking.
