Ezekiel 1:25-28
New English Translation
25 Then there was a voice from above the platform over their heads when they stood still.[a] 26 Above the platform over their heads was something like a sapphire shaped like a throne. High above on the throne was a form that appeared to be a man. 27 I saw an amber glow[b] like a fire enclosed all around[c] from his waist up. From his waist down I saw something that looked like fire. There was a brilliant light around it, 28 like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds after the rain.[d] This was the appearance of the surrounding brilliant light; it looked like the glory of the Lord. When I saw[e] it, I threw myself face down, and I heard a voice speaking.

- Ezekiel 1:25 tc The MT continues: “when they stood still, they lowered their wings,” an apparent dittography from the end of v. 24. The LXX commits haplography by homoioteleuton, leaving out vv. 25b and 26a by skipping from רֹאשָׁם (roʾsham, “their head”) in v. 25 to רֹאשָׁם in v. 26.
- Ezekiel 1:27 tn See Ezek 1:4.
- Ezekiel 1:27 tc The LXX lacks this phrase. Its absence from the LXX may be explained as a case of haplography resulting from homoioteleuton, skipping from כְּמַרְאֵה (kemarʾeh) to מִמַּרְאֵה (mimmarʾeh). On the other hand, the LXX presents a much more balanced verse structure when it is recognized that the final words of this verse belong in the next sentence.
- Ezekiel 1:28 sn Reference to the glowing substance and the brilliant light and storm phenomena in vv. 27-28a echoes in reverse order the occurrence of these phenomena in v. 4.
- Ezekiel 1:28 tn The vision closes with the repetition of the verb “I saw” from the beginning of the vision in 1:4.

25 And there was[a] a sound from above the expanse that was above their heads, and when they stood[b] they lowered their wings. 26 And from above the expanse that was above their heads there was the likeness of a throne, looking like a sapphire,[c] and above the likeness of the throne was a likeness similar to[d] the appearance of a human on it, but above it.[e] 27 And I saw something like the outward appearance of amber, something like the appearance of fire, with a covering around it, from the likeness of his loins and upward.[f] And from the likeness of his loins and downward[g] I saw something like the appearance of fire, and it was radiant all around.[h] 28 Like the appearance[i] of a bow that is in the cloud on a rainy day,[j] such was the radiance[k] around it; thus was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Yahweh. And I saw, and I fell on my face, and I heard a voice speaking.
