“Therefore, say to the house of Israel: This is what the Lord God says: Repent and turn away(A) from your idols; turn your faces away from all your detestable things. For when anyone from the house of Israel or from the foreigners who reside in Israel separates himself from Me, setting up idols in his heart and putting a sinful stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me,[a] I, Yahweh, will answer him Myself. I will turn against that one and make him a sign and a proverb; I will cut him off from among My people.(B) Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

“But if the prophet is deceived and speaks a message, it was I, Yahweh, who deceived that prophet.(C) I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.(D) 10 They will bear their punishment—the punishment of the one who inquires will be the same as that of the prophet— 11 in order that the house of Israel may no longer stray from following Me and no longer defile themselves(E) with all their transgressions. Then they will be My people and I will be their God.”(F) This is the declaration of the Lord God.

  1. Ezekiel 14:7 Lit Me for himself

Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Return,[a] and turn away from your idols and from all of your detestable things! Turn away your faces!”’ For each person[b] from the house of Israel, and from the alien who dwells as an alien in Israel, who separates himself from following me[c] and brings up his idols into his heart and places before himself[d] a stumbling block of his guilt[e], and yet he comes to the prophet to consult him concerning me, I Yahweh will answer[f] him myself. And I will set my face against that person, and I will make him to[g] be a sign and make him into[h] the subject of proverbs; and I will cut him off from the midst of my people, and you will know I am Yahweh. And the prophet, if he is deceived and he speaks a word, I Yahweh, I have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him, and I will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they will bear their guilt, like[i] the guilt of the inquirer so[j] the guilt of the prophet will be, 11 so that the house of Israel will not go astray again from me,[k] and they will not make themselves unclean again with all of their transgressions, and they will be for me a people, and I will be for them as God,” declares[l] the Lord Yahweh.
