Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that separateth himself from me, and taketh his idols into his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet to inquire [a]for himself of me; I Jehovah will answer him by myself: and I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah. And if the prophet be [b]deceived and speak a word, I, Jehovah, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear [c]their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him that seeketh unto him; 11 that the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither defile themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Return,[a] and turn away from your idols and from all of your detestable things! Turn away your faces!”’ For each person[b] from the house of Israel, and from the alien who dwells as an alien in Israel, who separates himself from following me[c] and brings up his idols into his heart and places before himself[d] a stumbling block of his guilt[e], and yet he comes to the prophet to consult him concerning me, I Yahweh will answer[f] him myself. And I will set my face against that person, and I will make him to[g] be a sign and make him into[h] the subject of proverbs; and I will cut him off from the midst of my people, and you will know I am Yahweh. And the prophet, if he is deceived and he speaks a word, I Yahweh, I have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him, and I will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they will bear their guilt, like[i] the guilt of the inquirer so[j] the guilt of the prophet will be, 11 so that the house of Israel will not go astray again from me,[k] and they will not make themselves unclean again with all of their transgressions, and they will be for me a people, and I will be for them as God,” declares[l] the Lord Yahweh.
