God’s Judgment on Wicked Counselors

11 Moreover the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the house of the Lord which faces eastward. And at the door of the gate were twenty-five men, among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azzur and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, officials of the people. Then He said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who devise mischief and give wicked counsel in this city, who say, ‘The time is not near to build houses. This city is the cauldron, and we are the flesh.’ Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man!”

Then the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and He said to me, Say, Thus says the Lord: Thus you have said, O house of Israel, for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them. You have multiplied your slain in this city, and you have filled the streets with them.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh and this city is the cauldron. But I will bring you out of the midst of it. You have feared the sword, so I will bring a sword upon you, says the Lord God. I will bring you out of the midst of the city and deliver you into the hands of strangers and execute judgments against you. 10 You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you in the border of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. 11 This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the flesh in the midst of it, but I will judge you in the border of Israel. 12 Thus you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in My statutes, or executed My judgments, but have done after the customs of the nations all around you.

13 Now while I was prophesying, Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face and cried out with a loud voice and said, “Ah, Lord God! Will You make a full end of the remnant of Israel?”

Judgment On Evil Rulers

11 And the Spirit lifted me up, and it brought me to the eastern gate, the one facing east, of the temple[a] of Yahweh. And look, there were twenty-five men in the doorway of the gate, and I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azzur in the midst of them, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the commanders of the people. And he said to me, “Son of man,[b] these are the men who devise mischief,[c] and who are offering bad counsel in this city, who are saying, “The building of houses is not near; the city is the pot, and we are the flesh. Therefore prophesy against them! Prophesy, son of man!”[d]

And the Spirit of Yahweh fell on me, and he said to me, “Say, ‘thus says Yahweh: “This is what you think, house of Israel, and I myself know them,[e] the thoughts of your spirit. You made your slain ones numerous in this city, and you have filled its streets with slain ones.”’[f] Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Your slain ones whom you put in its midst, they are the flesh, and it is the pot, and I[g] will bring you out from its midst. The sword you have feared, and the sword I will bring against you!” declares[h] the Lord Yahweh. “And I will bring you out from its midst, and I will give you into the hand of strangers, and I will execute judgments against you. 10 By the sword you will fall at the border of Israel; I will judge you, and you will know that I am Yahweh. 11 It will not be as a pot to you, and so you would be[i] in the midst of it as flesh, for at the border of Israel I will judge you. 12 And you will know that I am Yahweh, whose[j] rules you did not follow, and whose[k] regulations you did not do, but according to the regulations of the nations that are around you, you acted.”’[l]

13 And it happened that as I was prophesying,[m] Pelatiahu the son of Benaiahu died! And I fell on my face, and I cried with a loud voice, and I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh, you are making a complete destruction of the remnant of Israel!”
