28 Like the bow in a cloud on a rainy day, such was the appearance of the splendor all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.

When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of someone speaking.(A)

The Vision of the Scroll

He said to me: “O mortal,[a] stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you.”(B) And when he spoke to me, a spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.(C) He said to me, “Mortal, I am sending you to the people of Israel, to a nation[b] of rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have transgressed against me to this very day.(D) The descendants are impudent and stubborn. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’(E) Whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house), they shall know that there has been a prophet among them.(F) And you, O mortal, do not be afraid of them, and do not be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns surround you and you live among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words, and do not be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.(G) You shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.(H)

“But you, mortal, hear what I say to you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”(I) I looked, and a hand was stretched out to me, and a written scroll was in it.(J) 10 He spread it before me; it had writing on the front and on the back, and written on it were words of lamentation and mourning and woe.

He said to me, “O mortal, eat what is offered to you; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”(K) So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. He said to me, “Mortal, eat this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.” Then I ate it, and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey.(L)

Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.(A) 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested[a] as we are, yet without sin.(B) 16 Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Every high priest chosen from among mortals is put in charge of things pertaining to God on their behalf, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is subject to weakness,(C) and because of this he must offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people. And one does not presume to take this honor but takes it only when called by God, just as Aaron was.(D)

So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest but was appointed by[b] the one who said to him,

“You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you”;(E)

as he says also in another place,

“You are a priest forever,
    according to the order of Melchizedek.”(F)

The Transfiguration

28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus[a] took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.(A) 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking about his exodus, which he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem.(B) 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep, but as they awoke they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.(C) 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us set up three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” not realizing what he was saying.(D) 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen;[b] listen to him!”(E) 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.(F)
