“Now as for you, you are to sleep[a] on your left side, symbolically[b] bearing the punishment[c] of the house of Israel while you’re counting the days you’ll be sleeping on your left side[d] to bear symbolically[e] the punishment for[f] their sin. I’ve assigned you to sleep this way for 390 days, representing the years they’ve been sinning,[g] as you bear symbolically[h] the punishment of the house of Israel. When you have completed this, you are to sleep[i] on your right side, symbolically[j] bearing the iniquity of Judah for 40 days. Each day that I’ve assigned to you represents one year. After this, you are to turn toward the rampart of Jerusalem and oppose[k] it with your bare arms, because I’m going to prophesy about it. Look! I’ll tie you up[l] so that you’re unable to turn from one side to the other until you’ve completed your siege.”

“Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the people of Israel upon yourself.[a] You are to bear their sin for the number of days you lie on your side. I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the people of Israel.

“After you have finished this, lie down again, this time on your right side, and bear the sin(A) of the people of Judah. I have assigned you 40 days, a day for each year.(B) Turn your face(C) toward the siege of Jerusalem and with bared arm prophesy against her. I will tie you up with ropes so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have finished the days of your siege.(D)
