Ezekiel 37-38
New Living Translation
A Valley of Dry Bones
37 The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones. 2 He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. 3 Then he asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?”
“O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.”
4 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6 I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
7 So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. 8 Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.’”
10 So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.
11 Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. They are saying, ‘We have become old, dry bones—all hope is gone. Our nation is finished.’ 12 Therefore, prophesy to them and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the Lord. 14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said. Yes, the Lord has spoken!’”
Reunion of Israel and Judah
15 Again a message came to me from the Lord: 16 “Son of man, take a piece of wood and carve on it these words: ‘This represents Judah and its allied tribes.’ Then take another piece and carve these words on it: ‘This represents Ephraim and the northern tribes of Israel.’[a] 17 Now hold them together in your hand as if they were one piece of wood. 18 When your people ask you what your actions mean, 19 say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take Ephraim and the northern tribes and join them to Judah. I will make them one piece of wood in my hand.’
20 “Then hold out the pieces of wood you have inscribed, so the people can see them. 21 And give them this message from the Sovereign Lord: I will gather the people of Israel from among the nations. I will bring them home to their own land from the places where they have been scattered. 22 I will unify them into one nation on the mountains of Israel. One king will rule them all; no longer will they be divided into two nations or into two kingdoms. 23 They will never again pollute themselves with their idols[b] and vile images and rebellion, for I will save them from their sinful apostasy.[c] I will cleanse them. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.
24 “My servant David will be their king, and they will have only one shepherd. They will obey my regulations and be careful to keep my decrees. 25 They will live in the land I gave my servant Jacob, the land where their ancestors lived. They and their children and their grandchildren after them will live there forever, generation after generation. And my servant David will be their prince forever. 26 And I will make a covenant of peace with them, an everlasting covenant. I will give them their land and increase their numbers,[d] and I will put my Temple among them forever. 27 I will make my home among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 28 And when my Temple is among them forever, the nations will know that I am the Lord, who makes Israel holy.”
A Message for Gog
38 This is another message that came to me from the Lord: 2 “Son of man, turn and face Gog of the land of Magog, the prince who rules over the nations of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him. 3 Give him this message from the Sovereign Lord: Gog, I am your enemy! 4 I will turn you around and put hooks in your jaws to lead you out with your whole army—your horses and charioteers in full armor and a great horde armed with shields and swords. 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya[e] will join you, too, with all their weapons. 6 Gomer and all its armies will also join you, along with the armies of Beth-togarmah from the distant north, and many others.
7 “Get ready; be prepared! Keep all the armies around you mobilized, and take command of them. 8 A long time from now you will be called into action. In the distant future you will swoop down on the land of Israel, which will be enjoying peace after recovering from war and after its people have returned from many lands to the mountains of Israel. 9 You and all your allies—a vast and awesome army—will roll down on them like a storm and cover the land like a cloud.
10 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: At that time evil thoughts will come to your mind, and you will devise a wicked scheme. 11 You will say, ‘Israel is an unprotected land filled with unwalled villages! I will march against her and destroy these people who live in such confidence! 12 I will go to those formerly desolate cities that are now filled with people who have returned from exile in many nations. I will capture vast amounts of plunder, for the people are rich with livestock and other possessions now. They think the whole world revolves around them!’ 13 But Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish will ask, ‘Do you really think the armies you have gathered can rob them of silver and gold? Do you think you can drive away their livestock and seize their goods and carry off plunder?’
14 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy against Gog. Give him this message from the Sovereign Lord: When my people are living in peace in their land, then you will rouse yourself.[f] 15 You will come from your homeland in the distant north with your vast cavalry and your mighty army, 16 and you will attack my people Israel, covering their land like a cloud. At that time in the distant future, I will bring you against my land as everyone watches, and my holiness will be displayed by what happens to you, Gog. Then all the nations will know that I am the Lord.
17 “This is what the Sovereign Lord asks: Are you the one I was talking about long ago, when I announced through Israel’s prophets that in the future I would bring you against my people? 18 But this is what the Sovereign Lord says: When Gog invades the land of Israel, my fury will boil over! 19 In my jealousy and blazing anger, I promise a mighty shaking in the land of Israel on that day. 20 All living things—the fish in the sea, the birds of the sky, the animals of the field, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the people on earth—will quake in terror at my presence. Mountains will be thrown down; cliffs will crumble; walls will fall to the earth. 21 I will summon the sword against you on all the hills of Israel, says the Sovereign Lord. Your men will turn their swords against each other. 22 I will punish you and your armies with disease and bloodshed; I will send torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and burning sulfur! 23 In this way, I will show my greatness and holiness, and I will make myself known to all the nations of the world. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

37 Unya gigamhan ako sa Ginoo ug gidala ako sa iyang Espiritu ngadto sa taliwala sa kapatagan nga adunay daghang mga bukog. 2 Gilibot ako sa Ginoo didto, ug nakita ko ang labihan kadaghang mga bukog nga nagkatag sa kapatagan ug uga na kini kaayo. 3 Nangutana ang Ginoo kanako, “Tawo, mabuhi pa ba kini nga mga bukog?” Mitubag ako, “Ginoo nga Dios, ikaw lang gyud ang nahibalo niana.”
4 Miingon siya pag-usab kanako, “Ingna kana nga mga bukog nga mamati sila sa akong isulti. 5 Kay ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, nagaingon kanila: Hatagan ko kamo ug gininhawa, ug mabuhi kamo. 6 Butangan ko kamo ug mga ugat ug mga unod, ug puston ko kamo sa panit. Hatagan ko kamo ug gininhawa, ug mabuhi kamo. Unya mahibaloan ninyo nga ako mao ang Ginoo.”
7 Busa gituman ko ang gimando kanako. Ug samtang nagsulti ako, nakadungog akog linagutok, ug ang mga bukog nangasumpay. 8 Ug sa pagtan-aw ko, nakita ko nga may mga ugat ug mga unod na kini ug naputos kini sa panit, apan wala sila magginhawa.
9 Miingon ang Ginoo kanako, “Tawo, ingna ang hangin nga ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, nagaingon: O hangin, huros kamo gikan sa upat ka direksyon, ug huypi ninyo kana nga mga patay nga lawas aron mabuhi sila.” 10 Busa gituman ko ang iyang gimando kanako, ug nakabaton ug gininhawa ang mga patay nga lawas ug nabuhi sila. Nanindog sila, ug hilabihan sila kadaghan—daw usa ka batalyon nga mga sundalo.
11 Miingon pag-usab ang Ginoo kanako, “Tawo, kana nga mga bukog nagarepresentar sa tibuok katawhan sa Israel. Nagaingon sila, ‘Uga na ang amo nga mga bukog, ug wala na kamiy paglaom; gilaglag na kami.’ 12 Busa ingna sila nga ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, nagaingon: O katawhan ko, ablihan ko ang inyong mga lubnganan ug banhawon ko kamo, ug ibalik sa yuta sa Israel. 13 Unya mahibaloan ninyo, O katawhan ko, nga ako mao ang Ginoo, kon ablihon ko na ang inyong mga lubnganan ug banhawon kamo. 14 Ihatag ko ang akong Espiritu kaninyo ug mabuhi kamo, ug papuy-on ko kamo sa inyong kaugalingong yuta. Unya mahibaloan ninyo nga ako mao ang Ginoo. Kon unsa ang akong ginasulti, ginatuman ko. Ako, ang Ginoo, ang nagaingon niini.”
Ang Paghiusa sa Juda ug Israel
15 Miingon ang Ginoo kanako, 16 “Tawo, pagkuha ug lipak ug sulati kinig, ‘Ang gingharian sa Juda.’ Unya pagkuha pag laing lipak ug sulati kinig, ‘Ang gingharian sa Israel.’ 17 Sumpaya kini nga duha ka lipak aron mahimo kini nga usa na lang diha sa imo nga kamot. 18 Kon pangutan-on ka sa imo nga mga katawhan kon unsay buot ipasabot niini, 19 tubaga sila, ‘Mao kini ang giingon sa Ginoo nga Dios: Sumpayon ko ang lipak nga nagarepresentar sa Israel ug ang lipak nga nagarepresentar sa Juda, ug mahimo kini nga usa na lang sa akong kamot.’
20 “Unya guniti atubangan sa katawhan ang lipak nga imo nga gisulatan 21 ug ingna sila, ‘Mao kini ang giingon sa Ginoo nga Dios: Kuhaon ko ang mga Israelinhon gikan sa tanang nasod diin sila nagkatibulaag, ug dad-on ko sila pagbalik sa ilang kaugalingong yuta. 22 Himuon ko na lang silang usa ka nasod sa yuta sa Israel. Usa lang ka hari ang magahari kanila, ug dili na sila mabahin pa pag-usab ngadto sa duha ka nasod o gingharian. 23 Dili na nila hugawan pag-usab ang ilang kaugalingon pinaagi sa pagsimba sa ilang mangil-ad nga mga dios-dios, o sa paghimo sa bisan unsa nga sala kay luwason ko sila sa tanan nilang pagpakasala, ug limpyohan ko sila. Mahimo ko silang katawhan, ug ako ang ilang Dios. 24 Magahari kanila ang hari nga kaliwat sa akong alagad nga si David, ug usa lang ang ilang magbalantay. Sundon nila pag-ayo ang akong mga sugo ug mga tulumanon. 25 Magapuyo sila sa yuta nga akong gihatag sa akong alagad nga si Jacob, ang yuta diin nagpuyo ang ilang mga katigulangan. Didto sila ug ang ilang mga kaliwat magpuyo hangtod sa hangtod, ug magahari kanila ang hari nga kaliwat sa akong alagad nga si David sa walay kataposan. 26 Maghimo akog kasabotan kanila nga magapuyo sila nga maayo ang kahimtang. Ug kini nga kasabotan magapadayon hangtod sa hangtod. Papuy-on ko sila sa ilang yuta ug padaghanon ko sila. Ug patindogon ko ang akong templo sa ilang taliwala sa walay kataposan. 27 Mopuyo ako uban kanila. Mahimo akong ilang Dios, ug mahimo ko silang katawhan. 28 Ug kon magpabilin na ang akong templo diha kanila sa walay kataposan, mahibaloan sa mga nasod nga ako, ang Ginoo, mao ang nagpili sa mga Israelinhon nga mahimo nga ako.’ ”
Ang Mensahe batok sa Gog
38 Miingon ang Ginoo kanako, 2 “Tawo, pag-atubang kang Gog nga taga-Magog nga pangulo sa Meshech ug sa Tubal ug sultii siya. 3 Ingna siya nga ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, nagaingon: Gog, pangulo sa Meshech ug sa Tubal, kontrahon ko ikaw. 4 Tuyokon ko ikaw ug kaw-itag mga taga ang imo nga apapangig, ug guyoron uban sa tanan mo nga mga sundalo. Andamon ko alang sa gubat ang imo nga mga kabayo, mga tigkabayo nga armado, ug ang imo nga daghang mga sundalo nga may dagko ug gagmay nga mga taming ug tanan armado sa espada. 5 Mouban kanila ang mga sundalo sa Persia, Ethiopia,[a] ug Put, nga may mga taming ug helmet, 6 apil usab ang Gomer ug ang Bet Togarmah sa amihan ug ang tanan nilang mga sundalo. Daghang mga nasod ang mouban kanimo.
7 “Andama kanunay ang imo nga kaugalingon ug ang tanan mo nga mga sundalo ug pangulohi sila sa pagpakiggubat. 8 Sa umaabot nga mga adlaw, mandoan ko kamo sa pagsulong sa Israel, nga nakabangon na gikan sa pagkapukan ug kansang mga nagpuyo nagtigom ngadto sa kabukiran niini nga naawaaw sulod sa dugay nga panahon. Nakabalik na ang mga nagpuyo niini gikan sa mga nasod ug nagapuyo na sila nga malinawon. 9 Ikaw ug ang imo nga mga sundalo, ug ang imo nga kauban nga mga nasod, magasulong sa Israel nga daw sa usa ka bagyo, ug libotan ninyo kini nga daw sa panganod nga motabon niini.”
10 Nagpadayon sa pag-ingon ang Ginoo nga Dios: “Nianang higayona magplano kag daotan. 11 Moingon ka, ‘Sulongon ko ang Israel kansang mga lungsod walay paril, walay pultahan, ug walay trangka, ug ang mga nagpuyo niini nagapuyo nga malinawon ug walay gikahadlokan nga katalagman. 12 Ilogon ko ang mga kabtangan niini nga mga lungsod nga kanhi awaaw, apan karon napuno na sa mga tawo nga namalik gikan sa laing mga nasod. Daghan silag mga kahayopan ug mga kabtangan, ug giila ang ilang nasod nga labing importanteng nasod sa kalibotan.’
13 “Moingon kanimo ang katawhan sa Sheba ug sa Dedan, ug ang mga negosyante sa mga lungsod sa Tarshish, ‘Gitigom mo na ba ang imo nga kasundalohan aron ilogon ang mga pilak, bulawan, mga mananap, ug mga kabtangan sa mga Israelinhon?’
14 “Busa, tawo, ingna si Gog nga ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, nagaingon: Sa higayon nga magpuyo na nga malinawon ang akong katawhan nga mga Israelinhon, mahibaloan mo kini. 15 Busa sulonga sila gikan sa imo nga gipuy-an sa layong dapit sa amihan, uban sa imo nga daghan ug gamhanan nga mga sundalo nga nagkabayo. 16 Sulongon mo ang akong katawhan nga mga Israelinhon nga daw sama sa panganod nga motabon sa yuta. Oo, ipasulong ko kanimo, Gog, ang akong nasod sa umaabot nga panahon. Ug pinaagi sa ipahimo ko kanimo, mapakita ko ang akong pagkabalaan ngadto sa mga nasod. Unya mahibaloan nila nga ako mao ang Ginoo.”
17 Nagpadayon sa pag-ingon ang Ginoo nga Dios, “Sa unang panahon gipadayag ko pinaagi sa mga propeta sa Israel nga akong mga alagad nga sa umaabot nga mga adlaw may mosulong sa Israel. Ug ikaw ang buot kong ipasabot niadto. 18 Apan nianang panahona nga sulongon mo na Gog, ang Israel, mosilaob ang akong kasuko. Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, ang nagaingon niini. 19 Ug sa labihan ko nga kasuko, gipanumpa ko nga nianang higayona molinog ug kusog sa yuta sa Israel. 20 Ang tanang mga tawo ug ang tanang matang sa mananap—ang nagalakaw, ang nagalupad, ang nagakamang, ug ang nagapuyo sa tubig—mangurog sa kahadlok sa akong presensya. Mangatumpag ang mga bukid ug mga bakilid, ug mangatumpag ang mga paril. 21 Ipapatay ko ikaw, Gog, didto sa akong mga bukid. Ug ang imo nga mga sundalo magpinatyanay. Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, ang nagaingon niini. 22 Silotan ko ikaw ug ang imo nga mga sundalo, ug ang imo nga kauban nga mga nasod. Silotan ko kamo pinaagi sa balatian ug mag-unay kamo sa pagpinatyanay. Paulanan ko kamo ug kusog nga ulan, ice nga daw mga bato, ug nagadilaab nga asupre. 23 Niining paagiha ko ipakita ang akong pagkagamhanan ug pagkabalaan sa tanang nasod. Unya mahibaloan nila nga ako mao ang Ginoo.”
