Ezekiel Is Israel's Watchman
33 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 (A)“Son of man, speak to (B)your people and say to them, If (C)I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their (D)watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and (E)blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, (F)his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 (G)He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 (H)But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, (I)that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.
7 (J)“So you, (K)son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. (L)Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 (M)If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, (N)and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, (O)that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 (P)But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, (Q)that person shall die in his iniquity, (R)but you will have delivered your soul.
Why Will You Die, Israel?
10 “And you, (S)son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: ‘Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and (T)we rot away because of them. (U)How then can we live?’ 11 Say to them, (V)As I live, declares the Lord God, (W)I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; (X)turn back, turn back from your evil ways, (Y)for why will you die, O house of Israel?
12 (Z)“And you, son of man, say to (AA)your people, (AB)The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, (AC)and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, (AD)and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness[a] when he sins. 13 Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet (AE)if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. 14 Again, (AF)though I say to the wicked, (AG)‘You shall surely die,’ yet (AH)if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, 15 if the wicked (AI)restores the pledge, (AJ)gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks (AK)in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 16 (AL)None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live.
17 “Yet (AM)your people say, (AN)‘The way of the Lord is not just,’ when it is their own way that is not just. 18 (AO)When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it. 19 And (AP)when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he shall live by this. 20 Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, (AQ)I will judge each of you according to his ways.”

Ezekiel Is Called to Be a Watchman
33 The Lord spoke his word to me. He said, 2 “Son of man, speak to your people. Tell them, ‘Suppose I bring war on this country, and the people of this country choose one of their men and make him their watchman. 3 If he sees the enemy coming to attack the country, he will blow his horn to warn the people. 4 If the people hear the horn and ignore the warning and the enemy comes and takes them, they will be responsible for their own deaths. 5 They heard the sound of the horn but ignored its warning. So they are responsible for their own deaths. If they had taken the warning, they would have saved themselves.
6 “ ‘But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t blow his horn to warn the people and the enemy comes and kills someone, that watchman must die because of his sin. I will hold him responsible for their deaths.’
7 “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the people of Israel. Listen to what I say, and warn them for me. 8 Suppose I say to a wicked person, ‘You wicked person, you will certainly die,’ and you say nothing to warn him to change his ways. That wicked person will die because of his sin, and I will hold you responsible for his death. 9 But if you warn a wicked person to turn from his ways and he doesn’t turn from them, then he will die because of his sin. However, you will save yourself.
10 “Son of man, say to the people of Israel, ‘You have said this, “Our wickedness and our sins weigh us down, and we are rotting away because of them. How can we live?” ’
11 “Tell them, ‘As I live, declares the Almighty Lord, I don’t want wicked people to die. Rather, I want them to turn from their ways and live. Change the way you think and act! Turn from your wicked ways! Do you want to die, people of Israel?’
12 “Son of man, say to your people, ‘The right things that a righteous person has done will not save him when he rebels. The wicked things that a wicked person has done will not make him stumble when he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person will not live when he sins.’ 13 I may promise the righteous person that he will certainly live. But if he trusts in the right things that he has done and he does evil, none of the right things that he has done will be remembered. He will die because of the evil things he has done. 14 I may warn the wicked person that he will certainly die. But suppose he turns from his sin and does what is fair and right. 15 He returns the security for a loan, pays back everything he stole, lives by the rules of life, and does nothing evil. Then he will certainly live. He will not die. 16 None of the sins that he has done will be remembered. He has done what is fair and right. He will certainly live.
17 “But your people say, ‘The Lord’s way is unfair.’ Yet, their ways are unfair. 18 If the righteous person turns from the right things that he has done and does evil, he will die because of it. 19 If the wicked person turns from his wickedness and does what is fair and right, he will live because of it. 20 Yet, the people of Israel say, ‘The Lord’s way is unfair.’ I will judge each of you by your own ways, people of Israel.”

33 Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo: 2 Hijo de hombre, habla a los hijos de tu pueblo, y diles: Cuando trajere yo espada sobre la tierra, y el pueblo de la tierra tomare un hombre de su territorio y lo pusiere por atalaya, 3 y él viere venir la espada sobre la tierra, y tocare trompeta y avisare al pueblo, 4 cualquiera que oyere el sonido de la trompeta y no se apercibiere, y viniendo la espada lo hiriere, su sangre será sobre su cabeza. 5 El sonido de la trompeta oyó, y no se apercibió; su sangre será sobre él; mas el que se apercibiere librará su vida. 6 Pero si el atalaya viere venir la espada y no tocare la trompeta, y el pueblo no se apercibiere, y viniendo la espada, hiriere de él a alguno, este fue tomado por causa de su pecado, pero demandaré su sangre de mano del atalaya.
7 A ti, pues, hijo de hombre, te he puesto por atalaya a la casa de Israel, y oirás la palabra de mi boca, y los amonestarás de mi parte. 8 Cuando yo dijere al impío: Impío, de cierto morirás; si tú no hablares para que se guarde el impío de su camino, el impío morirá por su pecado, pero su sangre yo la demandaré de tu mano. 9 Y si tú avisares al impío de su camino para que se aparte de él, y él no se apartare de su camino, él morirá por su pecado, pero tú libraste tu vida.
El camino de Dios es justo

10 Tú, pues, hijo de hombre, di a la casa de Israel: Vosotros habéis hablado así, diciendo: Nuestras rebeliones y nuestros pecados están sobre nosotros, y a causa de ellos somos consumidos; ¿cómo, pues, viviremos? 11 Diles: Vivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, que no quiero la muerte del impío, sino que se vuelva el impío de su camino, y que viva. Volveos, volveos de vuestros malos caminos; ¿por qué moriréis, oh casa de Israel? 12 Y tú, hijo de hombre, di a los hijos de tu pueblo: La justicia del justo no lo librará el día que se rebelare; y la impiedad del impío no le será estorbo el día que se volviere de su impiedad; y el justo no podrá vivir por su justicia el día que pecare. 13 Cuando yo dijere al justo: De cierto vivirás, y él confiado en su justicia hiciere iniquidad, todas sus justicias no serán recordadas, sino que morirá por su iniquidad que hizo. 14 Y cuando yo dijere al impío: De cierto morirás; si él se convirtiere de su pecado, e hiciere según el derecho y la justicia, 15 si el impío restituyere la prenda, devolviere lo que hubiere robado, y caminare en los estatutos de la vida, no haciendo iniquidad, vivirá ciertamente y no morirá. 16 No se le recordará ninguno de sus pecados que había cometido; hizo según el derecho y la justicia; vivirá ciertamente.
17 Luego dirán los hijos de tu pueblo: No es recto el camino del Señor; el camino de ellos es el que no es recto. 18 Cuando el justo se apartare de su justicia, e hiciere iniquidad, morirá por ello. 19 Y cuando el impío se apartare de su impiedad, e hiciere según el derecho y la justicia, vivirá por ello. 20 Y dijisteis: No es recto el camino del Señor. Yo os juzgaré, oh casa de Israel, a cada uno conforme a sus caminos.

2 сын человеческий! изреки слово к сынам народа твоего и скажи им: если Я на какую-либо землю наведу меч, и народ той земли возьмет из среды себя человека и поставит его у себя стражем;
3 и он, увидев меч, идущий на землю, затрубит в трубу и предостережет народ;
4 и если кто будет слушать голос трубы, но не остережет себя, --то, когда меч придет и захватит его, кровь его будет на его голове.
5 Голос трубы он слышал, но не остерег себя, кровь его на нем будет; а кто остерегся, тот спас жизнь свою.
6 Если же страж видел идущий меч и не затрубил в трубу, и народ не был предостережен, --то, когда придет меч и отнимет у кого из них жизнь, сей схвачен будет за грех свой, но кровь его взыщу от руки стража.
7 И тебя, сын человеческий, Я поставил стражем дому Израилеву, и ты будешь слышать из уст Моих слово и вразумлять их от Меня.
8 Когда Я скажу беззаконнику: 'беззаконник! ты смертью умрешь', а ты не будешь ничего говорить, чтобы предостеречь беззаконника от пути его, --то беззаконник тот умрет за грех свой, но кровь его взыщу от руки твоей.
9 Если же ты остерегал беззаконника от пути его, чтобы он обратился от него, но он от пути своего не обратился, --то он умирает за грех свой, а ты спас душу твою.
10 И ты, сын человеческий, скажи дому Израилеву: вы говорите так: 'преступления наши и грехи наши на нас, и мы истаеваем в них: как же можем мы жить?'
11 Скажи им: живу Я, говорит Господь Бог: не хочу смерти грешника, но чтобы грешник обратился от пути своего и жив был. Обратитесь, обратитесь от злых путей ваших; для чего умирать вам, дом Израилев?
12 И ты, сын человеческий, скажи сынам народа твоего: праведность праведника не спасет в день преступления его, и беззаконник за беззаконие свое не падет в день обращения от беззакония своего, равно как и праведник в день согрешения своего не может остаться в живых за свою праведность.
13 Когда Я скажу праведнику, что он будет жив, а он понадеется на свою праведность и сделает неправду, --то все праведные дела его не помянутся, и он умрет от неправды своей, какую сделал.
14 А когда скажу беззаконнику: 'ты смертью умрешь', и он обратится от грехов своих и будет творить суд и правду,
15 [если] этот беззаконник возвратит залог, за похищенное заплатит, будет ходить по законам жизни, не делая ничего худого, --то он будет жив, не умрет.
16 Ни один из грехов его, какие он сделал, не помянется ему; он стал творить суд и правду, он будет жив.
17 А сыны народа твоего говорят: 'неправ путь Господа', тогда как их путь неправ.
18 Когда праведник отступил от праведности своей и начал делать беззаконие, --то он умрет за то.
19 И когда беззаконник обратился от беззакония своего и стал творить суд и правду, он будет за то жив.
20 А вы говорите: 'неправ путь Господа!' Я буду судить вас, дом Израилев, каждого по путям его.

God's Righteousness Upheld
3 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. To begin with, (A)the Jews were entrusted with (B)the oracles of God. 3 (C)What if some were unfaithful? (D)Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? 4 By no means! (E)Let God be true though (F)every one were a liar, as it is written,
5 But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict (I)wrath on us? ((J)I speak in a human way.) 6 By no means! For then how could (K)God judge the world? 7 But if through my lie God's truth abounds to his glory, (L)why am I still being condemned as a sinner? 8 And why not (M)do evil that good may come?—as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just.
No One Is Righteous
9 What then? Are we Jews[a] any better off?[b] No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both (N)Jews and (O)Greeks, are (P)under sin, 10 as it is written:
(Q)“None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
13 (R)“Their throat is (S)an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
(T)“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14 (U)“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
15 (V)“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 in their paths are ruin and misery,
17 and (W)the way of peace they have not known.”
18 (X)“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Everyone Is a Sinner
3 Is there any advantage, then, in being a Jew? Or is there any value in being circumcised? 2 There are all kinds of advantages. First of all, God entrusted them with his word.
3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Can their unfaithfulness cancel God’s faithfulness? 4 That would be unthinkable! God is honest, and everyone else is a liar, as Scripture says,
“So you hand down justice when you speak,
and you win your case in court.”
5 But if what we do wrong shows that God is fair, what should we say? Is God unfair when he vents his anger on us? (I’m arguing the way humans would.) 6 That’s unthinkable! Otherwise, how would God be able to judge the world? 7 If my lie increases the glory that God receives by showing that God is truthful, why am I still judged as a sinner? 8 Or can we say, “Let’s do evil so that good will come from it”? Some slander us and claim that this is what we say. They are condemned, and that’s what they deserve.
9 What, then, is the situation? Do we have any advantage? Not at all. We have already accused everyone (both Jews and Greeks) of being under the power of sin, 10 as Scripture says,
“Not one person has God’s approval.
11 No one understands.
No one searches for God.
12 Everyone has turned away.
Together they have become rotten to the core.
No one does anything good,
not even one person.
13 Their throats are open graves.
Their tongues practice deception.
Their lips hide the venom of poisonous snakes.
14 Their mouths are full of curses and bitter resentment.
15 They run quickly to murder people.
16 There is ruin and suffering wherever they go.
17 They have not learned to live in peace.
18 They are not terrified of God.”

11 No hay quien entienda,
No hay quien busque a Dios.

3 Ибо что же? если некоторые и неверны были, неверность их уничтожит ли верность Божию?
4 Никак. Бог верен, а всякий человек лжив, как написано: Ты праведен в словах Твоих и победишь в суде Твоем.
5 Если же наша неправда открывает правду Божию, то что скажем? не будет ли Бог несправедлив, когда изъявляет гнев? (говорю по человеческому [рассуждению]).
6 Никак. Ибо [иначе] как Богу судить мир?
7 Ибо, если верность Божия возвышается моею неверностью к славе Божией, за что еще меня же судить, как грешника?
8 И не делать ли нам зло, чтобы вышло добро, как некоторые злословят нас и говорят, будто мы так учим? Праведен суд на таковых.
9 Итак, что же? имеем ли мы преимущество? Нисколько. Ибо мы уже доказали, что как Иудеи, так и Еллины, все под грехом,
10 как написано: нет праведного ни одного;
11 нет разумевающего; никто не ищет Бога;
12 все совратились с пути, до одного негодны; нет делающего добро, нет ни одного.
13 Гортань их--открытый гроб; языком своим обманывают; яд аспидов на губах их.
14 Уста их полны злословия и горечи.
15 Ноги их быстры на пролитие крови;
16 разрушение и пагуба на путях их;
17 они не знают пути мира.
18 Нет страха Божия перед глазами их.
