A Lament Over Egypt
30 The Lord’s message came to me: 2 “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘Wail, “Alas, the day is here!”[a]
3 For the day is near,
the day of the Lord is near;
it will be a day of storm clouds,[b]
it will be a time of judgment[c] for the nations.
4 A sword will come against Egypt
and panic will overtake Ethiopia
when the slain fall in Egypt
and they carry away her wealth
and dismantle her foundations.
5 Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all the foreigners,[d] Libya, and the people[e] of the covenant land[f] will die by the sword along with them.
6 “‘This is what the Lord says:
Egypt’s supporters will fall;
her confident pride will crumble.[g]
From Migdol to Syene[h] they will die by the sword within her,
declares the Sovereign Lord.
7 They will be desolate among desolate lands,
and their cities will be among ruined cities.
8 They will know that I am the Lord
when I ignite a fire in Egypt
and all her allies are defeated.[i]
9 “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten overconfident Ethiopia; panic will overtake them on the day of Egypt’s doom;[j] for beware—it is coming!
10 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
I will put an end to the hordes of Egypt,
by the hand of King Nebuchadrezzar[k] of Babylon.
11 He and his people with him,
the most terrifying of the nations,[l]
will be brought there to destroy the land.
They will draw their swords against Egypt,
and fill the land with corpses.
12 I will dry up the waterways
and hand the land over to[m] evil men.
I will make the land and everything in it desolate by the hand of foreigners.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
13 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
I will destroy the idols,
and put an end to the gods of Memphis.
There will no longer be a prince from the land of Egypt;
so I will make the land of Egypt fearful.[n]
14 I will desolate Pathros,
I will ignite a fire in Zoan,
and I will execute judgments on Thebes.
15 I will pour out my anger upon Pelusium,[o]
the stronghold of Egypt;
I will cut off[p] the hordes of Thebes.
16 I will ignite a fire in Egypt;
Syene[q] will writhe in agony,
Thebes will be broken down,
and Memphis will face enemies every day.
17 The young men of On and of Pi Beseth[r] will die by the sword;
and the cities will go[s] into captivity.
18 In Tahpanhes the day will be dark[t]
when I break the yoke of Egypt there.
Her confident pride will cease within her;
a cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity.
19 I will execute judgments on Egypt.
Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”
20 In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month,[u] the Lord’s message came to me: 21 “Son of man, I have broken the arm[v] of Pharaoh king of Egypt.[w] Look, it has not been bandaged for healing or set with a dressing so that it might become strong enough to grasp a sword. 22 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look,[x] I am against[y] Pharaoh king of Egypt, and I will break his arms, the strong arm and the broken one, and I will make the sword drop from his hand. 23 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among foreign countries. 24 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and I will place my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan like the fatally wounded before the king of Babylon.[z] 25 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall limp. Then they will know that I am the Lord when I place my sword in the hand of the king of Babylon and he extends it against the land of Egypt. 26 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among foreign countries. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

- Ezekiel 30:12 tn Heb “and I will sell the land into the hand of.”

- Ezekiel 30:17 tn Heb “they will go.” The pronoun and verb are feminine plural, indicating that the cities just mentioned are the antecedent of the pronoun and the subject of the verb. The translation makes this clear by stating the subject as “the cities.”
- Ezekiel 30:18 sn In Zeph 1:15 darkness is associated with the day of the Lord.
- Ezekiel 30:20 tn April 29, 587 b.c.
- Ezekiel 30:21 sn The expression “breaking the arm” indicates the removal of power (Pss 10:15; 37:17; Job 38:15; Jer 48:25).

4 Und das Schwert wird über Ägypten kommen; und in Kusch wird große Angst sein, wenn die Erschlagenen in Ägypten fallen und man seinen Reichtum wegnimmt und seine Grundfesten niederreißt.
5 Kusch, Put und Lud, alles Mischvolk und Kub und die Söhne des verbündeten Landes werden samt ihnen durchs Schwert fallen.[b]
6 So spricht der Herr: Die Stützen Ägyptens werden fallen, und ihre stolze Macht muss herunter! Von Migdol bis nach Syene sollen sie darin durchs Schwert fallen!, spricht Gott, der Herr.
7 Und sie sollen verwüstet sein inmitten verwüsteter Länder, und ihre Städte sollen unter zerstörten Städten daliegen;

12 Ich will die Ströme austrocknen und das Land in die Hand von bösen Leuten verkaufen, und das Land samt allem, was darin ist, durch die Hand von Fremden verwüsten; ich, der Herr, habe es gesagt!

3 itt van már közel!
Az Örökkévaló napja jön,
rettenetes nap, félelmetes idő!
Sötét felhők borítják az eget,
a nemzetek ideje következik!
4 Egyiptomra ellenség fegyvere támad,
védői halálra sebzetten hullanak el,
Etiópia megrémül,
Egyiptom lakóit fogságba hurcolják,
még az alapjait is lerombolják.
5 Fegyverük levágja az etiópokat, pútiakat, lídeket, líbiaiakat, még a szövetség fiait[a] is az egyiptomiakkal együtt.”

Prófécia a fáraó ellen
20 A száműzetés tizenegyedik évében,[d] az első hónap hetedik napján az Örökkévaló szava érkezett hozzám: 21 „Ember fia, nézd, eltörtem a fáraónak, Egyiptom királyának a karját, de senki sem kötözte be, hogy meggyógyuljon, és újra fegyvert foghasson.
22 Most azért — mondja Uram, az Örökkévaló —, figyelj rám! A fáraó ellen fordulok, és ezúttal mindkét karját egészen összetöröm: az épet és a sérültet is úgy, hogy végleg kiejti a kardot kezéből. 23 Egyiptom népét pedig szétszórom a nemzetek között, és elszélesztem őket az országokban.
24 Viszont Babilon királyának karját megerősítem, és kezébe adom a kardomat. A fáraó karját úgy összetöröm, hogy jajgatni fog Babilon királya előtt, ahogy a halálra sebzett jajgat. 25 Babilon királyának karját megerősítem és támogatom, a fáraó karja pedig lehanyatlik.

Dans tout le pays, je répandrai l’effroi. 14 Oui, je dévasterai Patros, j’incendierai Tsoân, et j’exécuterai les jugements contre Thèbes[g]. 15 Je déverserai ma colère sur la ville de Sîn[h], forteresse de l’Egypte, et j’exterminerai les nombreux habitants de Thèbes. 16 J’incendierai l’Egypte et Sîn se tordra de douleur, on fera une brèche dans les remparts de Thèbes, et Memphis sera dans la détresse[i] en plein jour. 17 Les jeunes gens d’Héliopolis et ceux de Pi-Béseth[j] tomberont par l’épée, et les femmes s’en iront en exil[k]. 18 A Daphné[l], le jour s’obscurcira quand je romprai les jougs imposés par l’Egypte et que disparaîtra la force dont elle est si fière. Une sombre nuée recouvrira la ville, et ses habitantes[m] s’en iront en exil. 19 J’exécuterai ainsi les jugements sur l’Egypte et l’on reconnaîtra que je suis l’Eternel. »
La puissance du pharaon sera brisée
20 Le septième jour du premier mois de la onzième année[n], l’Eternel m’adressa la parole en ces termes :
21 Fils d’homme, vois, j’ai cassé le bras du pharaon, du roi d’Egypte, et il n’a pas été pansé, on ne l’a pas soigné en y posant des ligatures, on ne l’a pas bandé pour qu’il retrouve assez de forces pour manier une épée. 22 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur, l’Eternel, dit ceci : Voici, je vais m’en prendre au pharaon, au roi d’Egypte, et lui casser les bras, celui qui est valide aussi bien que celui qui est déjà rompu, et je ferai tomber l’épée de sa main, 23 je disperserai les Egyptiens parmi les autres peuples et je les répandrai dans divers pays. 24 Mais je fortifierai les bras du roi de Babylone, je mettrai dans sa main ma propre épée et je casserai les deux bras du pharaon qui gémira devant son ennemi comme gémit un homme blessé à mort.
25 Oui, je fortifierai les bras du roi de Babylone, mais quant aux bras du pharaon ils tomberont, et l’on reconnaîtra que je suis l’Eternel lorsque je mettrai mon épée dans la main du roi de Babylone et qu’il la brandira contre l’Egypte. 26 Oui, je disperserai les Egyptiens parmi les autres peuples, et je les répandrai dans divers pays, et l’on reconnaîtra que je suis l’Eternel.
