A Vision of Living Beings
1 On July 31[a] of my thirtieth year,[b] while I was with the Judean exiles beside the Kebar River in Babylon, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. 2 This happened during the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity. 3 (The Lord gave this message to Ezekiel son of Buzi, a priest, beside the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians,[c] and he felt the hand of the Lord take hold of him.)
4 As I looked, I saw a great storm coming from the north, driving before it a huge cloud that flashed with lightning and shone with brilliant light. There was fire inside the cloud, and in the middle of the fire glowed something like gleaming amber.[d] 5 From the center of the cloud came four living beings that looked human, 6 except that each had four faces and four wings. 7 Their legs were straight, and their feet had hooves like those of a calf and shone like burnished bronze. 8 Under each of their four wings I could see human hands. So each of the four beings had four faces and four wings. 9 The wings of each living being touched the wings of the beings beside it. Each one moved straight forward in any direction without turning around.
10 Each had a human face in the front, the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and the face of an eagle at the back. 11 Each had two pairs of outstretched wings—one pair stretched out to touch the wings of the living beings on either side of it, and the other pair covered its body. 12 They went in whatever direction the spirit chose, and they moved straight forward in any direction without turning around.
13 The living beings looked like bright coals of fire or brilliant torches, and lightning seemed to flash back and forth among them. 14 And the living beings darted to and fro like flashes of lightning.
15 As I looked at these beings, I saw four wheels touching the ground beside them, one wheel belonging to each. 16 The wheels sparkled as if made of beryl. All four wheels looked alike and were made the same; each wheel had a second wheel turning crosswise within it. 17 The beings could move in any of the four directions they faced, without turning as they moved. 18 The rims of the four wheels were tall and frightening, and they were covered with eyes all around.
19 When the living beings moved, the wheels moved with them. When they flew upward, the wheels went up, too. 20 The spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. So wherever the spirit went, the wheels and the living beings also went. 21 When the beings moved, the wheels moved. When the beings stopped, the wheels stopped. When the beings flew upward, the wheels rose up, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels.
22 Spread out above them was a surface like the sky, glittering like crystal. 23 Beneath this surface the wings of each living being stretched out to touch the others’ wings, and each had two wings covering its body. 24 As they flew, their wings sounded to me like waves crashing against the shore or like the voice of the Almighty[e] or like the shouting of a mighty army. When they stopped, they let down their wings. 25 As they stood with wings lowered, a voice spoke from beyond the crystal surface above them.
26 Above this surface was something that looked like a throne made of blue lapis lazuli. And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man. 27 From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor. 28 All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me.
Ezekiel’s Call and Commission
2 “Stand up, son of man,” said the voice. “I want to speak with you.” 2 The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words. 3 “Son of man,” he said, “I am sending you to the nation of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their ancestors have been rebelling against me to this very day. 4 They are a stubborn and hard-hearted people. But I am sending you to say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ 5 And whether they listen or refuse to listen—for remember, they are rebels—at least they will know they have had a prophet among them.
6 “Son of man, do not fear them or their words. Don’t be afraid even though their threats surround you like nettles and briers and stinging scorpions. Do not be dismayed by their dark scowls, even though they are rebels. 7 You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious! 8 Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in their rebellion. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.”
9 Then I looked and saw a hand reaching out to me. It held a scroll, 10 which he unrolled. And I saw that both sides were covered with funeral songs, words of sorrow, and pronouncements of doom.
3 The voice said to me, “Son of man, eat what I am giving you—eat this scroll! Then go and give its message to the people of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and he fed me the scroll. 3 “Fill your stomach with this,” he said. And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
4 Then he said, “Son of man, go to the people of Israel and give them my messages. 5 I am not sending you to a foreign people whose language you cannot understand. 6 No, I am not sending you to people with strange and difficult speech. If I did, they would listen! 7 But the people of Israel won’t listen to you any more than they listen to me! For the whole lot of them are hard-hearted and stubborn. 8 But look, I have made you as obstinate and hard-hearted as they are. 9 I have made your forehead as hard as the hardest rock! So don’t be afraid of them or fear their angry looks, even though they are rebels.”
10 Then he added, “Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself. 11 Then go to your people in exile and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”
12 Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a loud rumbling sound behind me. (May the glory of the Lord be praised in his place!)[f] 13 It was the sound of the wings of the living beings as they brushed against each other and the rumbling of their wheels beneath them.
14 The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I went in bitterness and turmoil, but the Lord’s hold on me was strong. 15 Then I came to the colony of Judean exiles in Tel-abib, beside the Kebar River. I was overwhelmed and sat among them for seven days.

4 Samtang nagtan-aw ako, nakita ko ang usa ka bagyo gikan sa amihan. Nagpangilat gikan sa mabagang dag-om nga gipalibotan ug kahayag. Ang kilat sa tunga sa dag-om nagasiga nga daw sa naggilak-gilak nga metal. 5 Ug sa tunga sa dag-om adunay upat ka buhi nga binuhat nga morag tawo, 6-8 apan ang matag usa kanila may upat ka nawong ug upat ka pako. Tul-id ang ilang mga paa, ug ang ilang mga tiil sama sa tiil sa baka ug naggilak-gilak sama sa gipasinaw nga bronsi. Adunay kamot sa tawo ilalom sa ilang tagsa-tagsa ka mga pako, 9 ug ang ilang mga pako nagaabot. Dungan silang manglupad bisan asa paingon nga walay lingi-lingi.
10 Mao kini ang ilang mga dagway: sa atubangan, dagway ug tawo; sa tuo, dagway ug liyon; sa wala, dagway ug torong baka; ug sa likod, dagway ug agila. 11 Ang ilang duha ka mga pako nakabukhad ug nagaabot sa pako sa ilang tapad, ug ang laing duha pa nila ka pako nagatabon sa ilang mga lawas. 12 Dungan silang manglupad bisan asa paingon nga walay lingi-lingi. Ug kon asa sila dad-a sa espiritu[b] didto usab sila mopaingon. 13 Daw sa nagdilaab nga baga sila kon tan-awon. May naglabay-labay sa ilang tunga nga daw sa nagsiga nga sulo nga labihan kasulaw. Ug gikan sa sulo may mokilab nga kilat. 14 Kini nga mga binuhat nagngadto-nganhi nga daw kilat.
15 Samtang nagatan-aw ako sa upat ka buhi nga mga binuhat, may nakita akong ligid diha sa tapad[c] sa matag-usa niini nga upat ka binuhat. Kini nga mga ligid nagdapat sa yuta. 16 Ingon niini ang hitsura sa mga ligid: Naggilak-gilak kini sama sa mahalong bato nga chrysolite, ug managsama kini ug hitsura nga daw duha ka ligid nga nagkurus, 17 busa makaadto kini ug ang buhi nga mga binuhat sa bisan asa nga direksyon nga dili na kinahanglan pang moliso. 18 Ang yantas niini habog ug makahahadlok kay nalukop kini ug mga mata.
19 Kon asa mopaingon ang buhi nga mga binuhat, kuyog usab ang mga ligid. Ug kon muban ngaon ang mga binuhat, mokawan usab ang mga ligid. 20 Ang espiritu sa buhi nga mga binuhat anaa sa mga ligid. Busa kon asa moadto ang espiritu, didto usab moadto ang buhi nga mga binuhat ug ang mga ligid. 21 Kon asa mopaingon ang buhi nga mga binuhat, uban usab kanila ang mga ligid. Ug kon magpundo sila, magpundo usab ang mga ligid. Ug kon mokawan sila, muban ngaon usab ang mga ligid, kay ang ilang espiritu anaa sa mga ligid.
22 Sa ibabaw sa ulo sa buhi nga mga binuhat may atop-atop nga daw kristal nga naggilak-gilak, ug kahibulongan kini nga tan-awon. 23 Sa ilalom niini nagabukhad ang duha ka pako sa matag buhi nga mga binuhat, ug nagaabot ang ilang mga pako sa ilang tapad. Ang laing duha nila ka pako nagatabon sa ilang mga lawas. 24 Kon mulupad sila, madungog ko ang kasikas sa ilang mga pako nga sama sa haganas sa tubig, o daw sama sa tingog sa Makagagahom nga Dios, o daw sama sa kasaba sa daghang mga sundalo. Ug kon magpundo sila, tik-upon nila ang ilang mga pako.
25 Samtang nagtik-op ang ilang mga pako, may tingog gikan sa ibabaw niadtong atop-atop sa ilang ulohan. 26 Ug didto may murag trono nga hinimo gikan sa batong safiro, ug may naglingkod niini nga sama sa tawo. 27 Nakita ko nga gikan sa iyang hawak pataas, daw sama siya sa naggilak-gilak nga metal nga daw nagkalayo. Ug gikan sa iyang hawak paubos, daw sama siya sa nagadilaab nga kalayo, ug gilibotan siya sa kahayag nga labihan kasulaw. 28 Ang kahayag sa iyang palibot nahisama sa bangaw human sa ulan.
Ingon niadto ang gahom sa Ginoo. Pagkakita ko niadto mihapa ako, ug may nadungog akong tingog nga nakigsulti kanako.
Si Ezekiel Gitawag nga Mahimo nga Propeta
2 Miingon siya kanako, “Tawo, tindog kay may isulti ako kanimo.” 2 Samtang nagsulti siya kanako, gigamhan ako sa Espiritu ug gipatindog. Namati ako sa iyang gisulti kanako. 3 Miingon siya, “Tawo, ipadala ko ikaw sa katawhan sa Israel, sa nasod nga masinupakon kanako. Ang ilang mga katigulangan misupak kanako kaniadto, ug hangtod karon nagasupak gihapon sila. 4 Mga gahi sila ug ulo ug mga badlongon. Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, nagapadala kanimo niini nga katawhan sa pagsugilon sa akong mensahe alang kanila. 5 Mamati man kini nga mga masinupakon o dili, angay nilang mahibaloan nga anaa diay propeta diha uban kanila. 6 Ug ikaw, tawo, ayaw kahadlok kanila. Ayaw kahadlok bisan pa kung ang ilang mga gipanulti sakit sama sa tunok sa mga sampinit o sa pinaakan sa tanga. Ayaw gyud kahadlok kanila ug sa ilang mga ginapanulti biskan sila masinupakon lang nga katawhan. 7 Isulti gyud ang akong mensahe kanila, mamati man kini nga mga masinupakon o dili.
8 “Apan ikaw, tawo, pamatia ang akong isulti kanimo. Ayaw pagsupak kanako sama kanila. Ablihi ang imo nga baba ug kaona ang akong ihatag kanimo.” 9 Unya nakita ko ang usa ka kamot nga nagatunol kanako sa usa ka linukot nga basahon. 10 Gibukhad niya kini sa akong atubangan, ug may sulat kini sa isigka-luyo nga mga pulong sa pagbangotan, kasubo, ug awit sa kaguol.
3 Unya miingon siya kanako, “Tawo, kan-a kini nga linukot nga basahon, ug lakaw ug sultihi ang katawhan sa Israel.” 2 Busa minganga ako, ug gipakaon niya kanako ang linukot nga basahon. 3 Miingon siya kanako, “Sige, kaona kana hangtod nga mabusog ka.” Ug sa dihang gikaon ko kini, sama kini katam-is sa dugos.
4 Miingon dayon siya kanako, “Tawo, lakaw na ngadto sa katawhan sa Israel ug isulti ang akong mensahe kanila. 5 Wala ko ikaw ipadala sa katawhan nga lahig pinulongan ug lisod sabton, kondili ngadto sa katawhan sa Israel. 6 Kon didto ko pa ikaw ipadala sa katawhan nga lahig pinulongan ug dili mo masabtan, siguradong mamati gyud sila kanimo. 7 Apan ang katawhan sa Israel dili mamati kanimo, kay dili sila buot nga mamati kanako. Tanan sila mga gahig ulo ug tig-ag kasingkasing. 8 Apan himuon ko ikaw nga mas gahig ulo ug mas tig-ag kasingkasing kay kanila, 9 sama kagahi sa batong bantilis. Busa ayaw gyud kahadlok kanila biskan sila masinupakon lang nga katawhan.”
10 Ug siya mi-ingon kanako, “Tawo, pamatia pag-ayo ug tipigi diha sa imo nga kasingkasing ang tanan nga isulti ko kanimo. 11 Karon, lakaw! Adtoa ang imo nga mga katawhan nga kauban mo nga gibihag, ug isulti kanila ang mensahe nga gikan kanako, ang Ginoo nga Dios. Buhata kini, mamati man sila o dili.”
12 Unya gibayaw ako sa Espiritu, ug nadungog ko ang nagadahunog nga tingog gikan sa akong luyo nga nagaingon, “Dalaygon ang gahom sa Ginoo nga anaa sa langit!” 13 Ug nadungog ko usab ang kasikas sa mga nagsinag-hiray nga mga pako sa buhi nga mga binuhat, ug ang nagadahunog nga kasaba sa mga ligid tapad niini. 14 Gialsa ako sa Espiritu ug gidala palayo. Naglain ang akong buot ug naglagot, apan gipugngan ako sa Ginoo.
15 Nakaabot ako sa Tel Abib, sa daplin sa Suba sa Kebar diin nagapuyo ang mga binihag. Nagpabilin ako didto uban kanila sulod sa pito ka adlaw. Naluya ako tungod sa mga butang nga akong nakita.
