⁴⁴“Behold, everyone who quotes ^(A)proverbs will quote this proverb concerning you, saying, ‘^[a]Like mother, ^[b]like daughter.’

Ezekiel 16:44

New International Version

⁴⁴“‘Everyone who quotes proverbs^(A) will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

²“^(A)What do you mean by using this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying,

‘^(B)The fathers eat the sour grapes,
But the children’s teeth ^[a]are set on edge’?

³As I live,” declares Lord Yahweh, “you are surely not going to use this proverb in Israel anymore.

²“What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:

“‘The parents eat sour grapes,
and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?^(A)

³“As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb^(B) in Israel.
