7 For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which departeth from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a Prophet, for to inquire of him for me, I the Lord will answer him [a]for myself,
8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him an example and proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
9 And if the Prophet be [b]deceived, when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that Prophet, and I will stretch out mine hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people of Israel.

7 “‘When any of the Israelites or any foreigner(A) residing in Israel separate themselves from me and set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block(B) before their faces and then go to a prophet to inquire(C) of me, I the Lord will answer them myself. 8 I will set my face against(D) them and make them an example(E) and a byword.(F) I will remove them from my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.(G)
9 “‘And if the prophet(H) is enticed(I) to utter a prophecy, I the Lord have enticed that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and destroy him from among my people Israel.(J)
