¹² A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you; a third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and a third I will scatter to the winds^(A) and pursue with drawn sword.^(B)

² When the days of your siege come to an end, burn^(A) a third^(B) of the hair inside the city. Take a third and strike it with the sword all around the city. And scatter a third to the wind.^(C) For I will pursue them with drawn sword.^(D)

² And if they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says:

¹⁴ I will scatter to the winds all those around him—his staff and all his troops—and I will pursue them with drawn sword.^(A)

¹⁰ Then say to them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant^(A) Nebuchadnezzar^(B) king of Babylon, and I will set his throne^(C) over these stones I have buried here; he will spread his royal canopy^(D) above them. ¹¹ He will come and attack Egypt,^(E) bringing death^(F) to those destined^(G) for death, captivity to those destined for captivity,^(H) and the sword to those destined for the sword.^(I)

⁹ Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague.^(A) But whoever goes out and surrenders^(B) to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; they will escape with their lives.^(C)

¹¹ “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Strike your hands together and stamp your feet and cry out “Alas!” because of all the wicked and detestable practices of the people of Israel, for they will fall by the sword, famine and plague.^{(A) 12} One who is far away will die of the plague, and one who is near will fall by the sword, and anyone who survives and is spared will die of famine. So will I pour out my wrath^(B) on them.^(C)

¹⁰ Therefore in your midst parents will eat their children, and children will eat their parents.^(A) I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds.^(B)

²⁷ For I am watching^(A) over them for harm,^(B) not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish^(C) by sword and famine^(D) until they are all destroyed.^(E)
