¹⁸ They are to wear linen turbans^(A) on their heads and linen undergarments^(B) around their waists. They must not wear anything that makes them perspire.^(C)

⁴⁰ But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly^(A) way.

⁴ Every man who prays or prophesies^(A) with his head covered dishonors his head. ⁵ But every woman who prays or prophesies^(B) with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved.^{(C) 6} For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head,^[a] since he is the image^(D) and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. ⁸ For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;^{(E) 9} neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.^{(F) 10} It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own^[b] head, because of the angels.

²⁰ the headdresses^(A) and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms,

⁴ He is to put on the sacred linen tunic,^(A) with linen undergarments next to his body; he is to tie the linen sash around him and put on the linen turban.^(B) These are sacred garments;^(C) so he must bathe himself with water^(D) before he puts them on.^(E)

²⁸ and the turban^(A) of fine linen, the linen caps and the undergarments of finely twisted linen.

⁴⁰ Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons^(A) to give them dignity and honor.^{(B) 41} After you put these clothes^(C) on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint^(D) and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.^(E)

⁴² “Make linen undergarments^(F) as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh. ⁴³ Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting^(G) or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place,^(H) so that they will not incur guilt and die.^(I)

“This is to be a lasting ordinance^(J) for Aaron and his descendants.
