³ As he brought me nearer, I saw a man whose face shone like bronze standing beside a gateway entrance. He was holding in his hand a linen measuring cord and a measuring rod.

11 Then I was given a measuring stick, and I was told, “Go and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers.

³ Measuring as he went, he took me along the stream for 1,750 feet^[a] and then led me across. The water was up to my ankles.

¹⁵ The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.

¹⁵ His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves.

⁵ I looked up and saw a man dressed in linen clothing, with a belt of pure gold around his waist. ⁶ His body looked like a precious gem. His face flashed like lightning, and his eyes flamed like torches. His arms and feet shone like polished bronze, and his voice roared like a vast multitude of people.

⁷ Their legs were straight, and their feet had hooves like those of a calf and shone like burnished bronze.

Future Prosperity of Jerusalem

2 ^[a]When I looked again, I saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. ² “Where are you going?” I asked.

He replied, “I am going to measure Jerusalem, to see how wide and how long it is.”

²⁷ From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor.
