¹¹ Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’^(A)

Made Alive in Christ

2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,^(A)

²⁵ “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will now restore the fortunes of Jacob^[a](A) and will have compassion^(B) on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name.^(C)

¹¹ The people of Judah and the people of Israel will come together;^(A) they will appoint one leader^(B) and will come up out of the land,^(C) for great will be the day of Jezreel.^[a](D)

The Valley of Dry Bones

37 The hand of the Lord was on me,^(A) and he brought me out by the Spirit^(B) of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley;^(C) it was full of bones.^{(D) 2} He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. ³ He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.^(E)”

⁴ Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!^{(F) 5} This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath^[a] enter you, and you will come to life.^{(G) 6} I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.^(H)’”

⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. ⁸ I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

¹⁰ and I will cause many people to live on you—yes, all of Israel. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins^(A) rebuilt.^(B)

31 “At that time,” declares the Lord, “I will be the God^(A) of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”

²⁴ “Have you not noticed that these people are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two kingdoms^[a](A) he chose’? So they despise^(B) my people and no longer regard them as a nation.^{(C) 25} This is what the Lord says: ‘If I have not made my covenant with day and night^(D) and established the laws^(E) of heaven and earth,^{(F) 26} then I will reject^(G) the descendants of Jacob^(H) and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes^[b](I) and have compassion^(J) on them.’”
