³⁴ And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by.

¹⁴ And ^(A)I will stretch out my hand against them and ^(B)make the land desolate and waste, ^(C)in all their dwelling places, from the wilderness to ^(D)Riblah.^[a] Then ^(E)they will know that I am the Lord.”

^9 (A)behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, ^(B)my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, ^(C)and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation. ¹⁰ Moreover, ^(D)I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, ^(E)the grinding of the millstones and ^(F)the light of the lamp. ^11 (G)This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and ^(H)these nations shall serve the king of Babylon ^(I)seventy years.

²¹ to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had ^(A)enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate ^(B)it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

²³ the whole land burned out with brimstone and ^(A)salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, ^(B)an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, ^(C)Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath— ²⁴ all the nations ^(D)will say, ^(E)‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ ²⁵ Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. ²⁷ Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, ^(F)bringing upon it all the curses written in this book, ²⁸ and the Lord ^(G)uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and ^(H)cast them into another land, as they are this day.’
