¹⁶ None of the sins^(A) that person has committed will be remembered against them. They have done what is just and right; they will surely live.^(B)

²² None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live.^(A)

2 My dear children,^(A) I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate^(B) with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. ² He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,^(C) and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.^(D)

³ We know^(E) that we have come to know him^(F) if we keep his commands.^(G)

¹⁶ Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.

²¹ so that, just as sin reigned in death,^(A) so also grace^(B) might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life^(C) through Jesus Christ our Lord.
