³ Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
I will send many people
    to catch you in my net
    and haul you out of the water.

¹⁴ Are we only fish to be caught and killed?
    Are we only sea creatures that have no leader?
¹⁵ Must we be strung up on their hooks
    and caught in their nets while they rejoice and celebrate?
¹⁶ Then they will worship their nets
    and burn incense in front of them.
“These nets are the gods who have made us rich!”
    they will claim.
¹⁷ Will you let them get away with this forever?
    Will they succeed forever in their heartless conquests?

¹² But as they fly about,
    I will throw my net over them
and bring them down like a bird from the sky.
    I will punish them for all the evil they do.^[a]

¹³ “He has sent fire from heaven that burns in my bones.
    He has placed a trap in my path and turned me back.
He has left me devastated,
    racked with sickness all day long.
