⁵ “‘He took one of the seedlings of the land and put it in fertile soil. He planted it like a willow by abundant water,^(A)

¹¹ Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?^{(A) 12} Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my predecessors^(B) deliver them—the gods of Gozan, Harran,^(C) Rezeph and the people of Eden^(D) who were in Tel Assar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath or the king of Arpad?^(E) Where are the kings of Lair, Sepharvaim,^(F) Hena and Ivvah?”^(G)

¹⁸ “Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’ Have the gods of any nations ever delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹⁹ Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad?^(A) Where are the gods of Sepharvaim?^(B) Have they rescued Samaria^(C) from my hand?

⁴ The field commander said to them, “Tell Hezekiah:

¹² When the Lord has finished all his work^(J) against Mount Zion^(K) and Jerusalem, he will say, “I will punish the king of Assyria^(L) for the willful pride^(M) of his heart and the haughty look^(N) in his eyes. ¹³ For he says:
