The Day of the Lord

Blow (A)the [a]trumpet in Zion,
And (B)sound an alarm in My holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
For (C)the day of the Lord is coming,
For it is at hand:
(D)A day of darkness and gloominess,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
Like the morning clouds spread over the mountains.
(E)A people come, great and strong,
(F)The like of whom has never been;
Nor will there ever be any such after them,
Even for many successive generations.

Then the Lord will go forth
And fight against those nations,
As He fights in the day of battle.
And in that day His feet will stand (A)on the Mount of Olives,
Which faces Jerusalem on the east.
And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,
From east to west,
(B)Making a very large valley;
Half of the mountain shall move toward the north
And half of it toward the south.

Then you shall flee through My mountain valley,
For the mountain valley shall reach to Azal.
Yes, you shall flee
As you fled from the (C)earthquake
In the days of Uzziah king of Judah.

(D)Thus the Lord my God will come,
And (E)all the saints with [a]You.

It shall come to pass in that day
That there will be no light;
The [b]lights will diminish.
It shall be one day
(F)Which is known to the Lord
Neither day nor night.
But at (G)evening time it shall happen
That it will be light.

And in that day it shall be
That living (H)waters shall flow from Jerusalem,
Half of them toward [c]the eastern sea
And half of them toward [d]the western sea;
In both summer and winter it shall occur.
And the Lord shall be (I)King over all the earth.
In that day it shall be—
(J)“The Lord is one,”
And His name one.

10 All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. [e]Jerusalem shall be raised up and (K)inhabited in her place from Benjamin’s Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, (L)and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses.

11 The people shall dwell in it;
And (M)no longer shall there be utter destruction,
(N)But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

12 And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem:

Their flesh shall [f]dissolve while they stand on their feet,
Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets,
And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.

13 It shall come to pass in that day
That (O)a great panic from the Lord will be among them.
Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor,
And raise (P)his hand against his neighbor’s hand;
14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem.
(Q)And the wealth of all the surrounding nations
Shall be gathered together:
Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance.

15 (R)Such also shall be the plague
On the horse and the mule,
On the camel and the donkey,
And on all the cattle that will be in those camps.
So shall this plague be.

The Nations Worship the King

16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall (S)go up from year to year to (T)worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep (U)the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 (V)And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of (W)Egypt will not come up and enter in, (X)they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 19 This shall be the [g]punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

The Day of the Lord

16 Therefore the Lord God of hosts, the Lord, says this:

There shall be wailing in all streets,

‘Alas! Alas!’
They shall call the farmer to mourning,
(A)And skillful lamenters to wailing.

Says the Lord.

20 Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light?

Judgment on the Nations

15 For thus says the Lord God of Israel to me: “Take this (A)wine cup of [a]fury from My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. 16 And (B)they will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.”

17 Then I took the cup from the Lord’s hand, and made all the nations drink, to whom the Lord had sent me: 18 Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and its princes, to make them (C)a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and (D)a curse, as it is this day; 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his princes, and all his people; 20 all the mixed multitude, all the kings of (E)the land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the (F)Philistines (namely, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and (G)the remnant of Ashdod); 21 (H)Edom, Moab, and the people of Ammon; 22 all the kings of (I)Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are across the (J)sea; 23 (K)Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who are in the farthest corners; 24 all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the (L)mixed multitude who dwell in the desert; 25 all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of (M)Elam, and all the kings of the (N)Medes; 26 (O)all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world which are on the face of the earth. Also the king of [b]Sheshach shall drink after them.

27 “Therefore you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (P)“Drink, (Q)be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.” ’ 28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “You shall certainly drink! 29 For behold, (R)I begin to bring calamity on the city (S)which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? (B)Their stench shall rise from their corpses,

(C)All the host of heaven shall be dissolved,

It is made [a]overflowing with fatness,

The wild oxen shall come down with them,
And the young bulls with the mighty bulls;

15 There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs
And hatch, and gather them under her shadow;
There also shall the hawks be gathered,
Every one with her mate.

16 “Search from (R)the book of the Lord, and read:

For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.

They shall possess it forever;
From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”
