⁷ But the house of Israel will not listen to you, ^(A)because they will not listen to Me; ^(B)for all the house of Israel are ^[a]impudent and hard-hearted.

^16 (A)He who hears you hears Me, ^(B)he who rejects you rejects Me, and ^(C)he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

^4 (A)For they are ^[a]impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’

⁷ And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for ^(A)they have not rejected you, but ^(B)they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, ^(A)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. ^(B)If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But ^(C)all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. ^22 (D)If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, ^(E)but now they have no excuse for their sin. ^23 (F)He who hates Me hates My Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them ^(G)the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have ^(H)seen and also hated both Me and My Father.

^40 (A)But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

^41 (B)“I do not receive honor from men. ⁴² But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ⁴³ I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. ^44 (C)How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek ^(D)the honor that comes from the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; ^(E)there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. ⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; ^(F)for he wrote about Me. ⁴⁷ But if you ^(G)do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

^14 (A)But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’
