⁷ But the people of Israel are not willing to listen^(A) to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for all the Israelites are hardened and obstinate.^(B)

¹⁶ “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”^(A)

⁴ The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn.^(A) Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’^(B)

⁷ And the Lord told him: “Listen^(A) to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected,^(B) but they have rejected me as their king.^(C)

²⁰ Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’^[a](A) If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.^(B) If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. ²¹ They will treat you this way because of my name,^(C) for they do not know the one who sent me.^{(D) 22} If I had not come and spoken to them,^(E) they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.^{(F) 23} Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works no one else did,^(G) they would not be guilty of sin.^(H) As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father.

⁴⁰ yet you refuse to come to me^(A) to have life.

⁴¹ “I do not accept glory from human beings,^{(B) 42} but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. ⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. ⁴⁴ How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God^[a]?^(C)

⁴⁵ “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses,^(D) on whom your hopes are set.^{(E) 46} If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.^{(F) 47} But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”^(G)

¹⁴ “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’

³⁴ “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,^(A) and you were not willing.
