⁹ and the land of Egypt shall be a desolation and a waste. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.

Because you^[a] said, “The Nile is mine, and I made it,”

³ speak and say: Thus says the Lord God:

¹⁰ therefore, I am against you and against your channels, and I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Cush.^{(A) 11} No human foot shall pass through it, and no animal foot shall pass through it; it shall be uninhabited forty years.^{(B) 12} I will make the land of Egypt a desolation among desolated countries, and her cities shall be a desolation forty years among cities that are laid waste. I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the countries.^(C)

¹³ Thus says the Lord God:

¹⁰ and say to them, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to send and take my servant King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon, and I will set his throne above these stones that I have buried, and he will spread his royal canopy over them.^{(A) 11} He shall come and ravage the land of Egypt, giving

¹² “I shall kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt, and he shall burn them and carry them away captive, and he shall pick clean the land of Egypt as a shepherd picks his cloak clean of vermin, and he shall depart from there safely.^{(C) 13} He shall break the obelisks of Heliopolis, which is in the land of Egypt, and the temples of the gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire.”
