¹² “Son of man, ^(A)take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God:

Israel Degraded

19 “Moreover ^(A)take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

² “Now, son of man, ^(A)take up a lamentation for Tyre, ³ and say to Tyre, ^(B)‘You who ^[a]are situated at the entrance of the sea, ^(C)merchant of the peoples on many coastlands, thus says the Lord God:

¹⁷ And they will take up a ^(A)lamentation for you, and say to you:

Heavenly Versus Demonic Wisdom

^13 (A)Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have ^(B)bitter envy and ^[a]self-seeking in your hearts, ^(C)do not boast and lie against the truth. ^15 (D)This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. ¹⁶ For ^(E)where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. ¹⁷ But ^(F)the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, ^(G)without partiality ^(H)and without hypocrisy. ^18 (I)Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

^3 (A)in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Preeminence of Christ

^9 (A)For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask ^(B)that you may be filled with ^(C)the knowledge of His will ^(D)in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

²² who ^(A)also has sealed us and ^(B)given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ^(A)“He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;
