⁶ The seacoast shall be pastures,
With ^[a]shelters for shepherds ^(E)and folds for flocks.
⁷ The coast shall be for ^(F)the remnant of the house of Judah;
They shall feed their flocks there;
In the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening.
For the Lord their God will ^(G)intervene^[b] for them,
And ^(H)return their captives.

⁸ “I^(I) have heard the reproach of Moab,
And ^(J)the insults of the people of Ammon,
With which they have reproached My people,
And ^(K)made arrogant threats against their borders.
⁹ Therefore, as I live,”
Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,
“Surely ^(L)Moab shall be like Sodom,
And ^(M)the people of Ammon like Gomorrah—
^(N)Overrun^[c] with weeds and saltpits,
And a ^[d]perpetual desolation.
The residue of My people shall plunder them,
And the remnant of My people shall possess them.”

¹⁰ This they shall have ^(O)for their pride,
Because they have reproached and made arrogant threats
Against the people of the Lord of hosts.
¹¹ The Lord will be awesome to them,
For He will reduce to nothing all the gods of the earth;
^(P)People shall worship Him,
Each one from his place,
Indeed all ^(Q)the shores of the nations.

¹² “You^(R) Ethiopians also,
You shall be slain by ^(S)My sword.”

¹³ And He will stretch out His hand against the north,
^(T)Destroy Assyria,
And make Nineveh a desolation,
As dry as the wilderness.
¹⁴ The herds shall lie down in her midst,
^(U)Every beast of the nation.
Both the ^(V)pelican and the bittern
Shall lodge on the capitals of her pillars;
Their voice shall sing in the windows;
Desolation shall be at the threshold;
For He will lay bare the ^(W)cedar work.
¹⁵ This is the rejoicing city
^(X)That dwelt securely,
^(Y)That said in her heart,
“I am it, and there is none besides me.”
How has she become a desolation,
A place for beasts to lie down!
Everyone who passes by her
^(Z)Shall hiss and ^(AA)shake his fist.

“Behold, ^(C)waters rise ^(D)out of the north,
And shall be an overflowing flood;
They shall overflow the land and all that is in it,
The city and those who dwell within;
Then the men shall cry,
And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
³ At the ^(E)noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses,
At the rushing of his chariots,
At the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers will not look back for their children,
^[a]Lacking courage,
⁴ Because of the day that comes to plunder all the ^(F)Philistines,
To cut off from ^(G)Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;
For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,
^(H)The remnant of the country of ^(I)Caphtor.^[b]
5 (J)Baldness has come upon Gaza,
^(K)Ashkelon is cut off
With the remnant of their valley.
How long will you cut yourself?

⁶ “O you ^(L)sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
⁷ How can ^[c]it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has ^(M)given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has ^(N)appointed it.”
