²² And you will do as I have done. You will not cover your mustache and beard^(A) or eat the customary food of mourners.^(B)

⁹ If ten^(A) people are left in one house, they too will die. ¹⁰ And if the relative who comes to carry the bodies out of the house to burn them^[a](B) asks anyone who might be hiding there, “Is anyone else with you?” and he says, “No,” then he will go on to say, “Hush!^(C) We must not mention the name of the Lord.”

¹⁶ “Son of man, with one blow^(A) I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes.^(B) Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears.^{(C) 17} Groan quietly;^(D) do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban^(E) fastened and your sandals^(F) on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard^(G) or eat the customary food of mourners.^(H)”

⁴ “They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried^(A) but will be like dung lying on the ground.^(B) They will perish by sword and famine,^(C) and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.”^(D)

⁵ For this is what the Lord says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity^(E) from this people,” declares the Lord. ⁶ “Both high and low will die in this land.^(F) They will not be buried or mourned,^(G) and no one will cut^(H) themselves or shave^(I) their head for the dead. ⁷ No one will offer food^(J) to comfort those who mourn^(K) for the dead—not even for a father or a mother—nor will anyone give them a drink to console^(L) them.
