⁴⁸ “So I will put an end^(A) to lewdness in the land, that all women may take warning and not imitate you.^(B)

⁶ if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes,^(A) and made them an example^(B) of what is going to happen to the ungodly;^(C)

²⁷ So I will put a stop^(A) to the lewdness and prostitution you began in Egypt. You will not look on these things with longing or remember Egypt anymore.

⁴¹ They will burn down^(A) your houses and inflict punishment on you in the sight of many women.^(B) I will put a stop^(C) to your prostitution, and you will no longer pay your lovers.

⁶ Now these things occurred as examples^(A) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. ⁷ Do not be idolaters,^(B) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”^{[a](C) 8} We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.^{(D) 9} We should not test Christ,^[b](E) as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.^{(F) 10} And do not grumble, as some of them did^(G)—and were killed^(H) by the destroying angel.^(I)

¹¹ These things happened to them as examples^(J) and were written down as warnings for us,^(K) on whom the culmination of the ages has come.^(L)

²⁵ I will sprinkle^(A) clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse^(B) you from all your impurities^(C) and from all your idols.^(D)

¹⁵ I will disperse you among the nations and scatter^(A) you through the countries; and I will put an end to^(B) your uncleanness.^(C)
