²⁴ They will come against you with weapons,^[a] chariots and wagons^(A) and with a throng of people; they will take up positions against you on every side with large and small shields and with helmets. I will turn you over to them for punishment,^(B) and they will punish you according to their standards.

¹⁰ His horses will be so many that they will cover you with dust. Your walls will tremble at the noise of the warhorses, wagons and chariots^(A) when he enters your gates as men enter a city whose walls have been broken through.

⁴⁵ But righteous judges will sentence them to the punishment of women who commit adultery and shed blood,^(A) because they are adulterous and blood is on their hands.^(B)

³⁸ I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood;^(A) I will bring on you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger.^(B)

⁵ But the Babylonian^[a] army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah^(A) in the plains of Jericho. They captured^(B) him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah^(C) in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced sentence on him. ⁶ There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and also killed all the nobles^(D) of Judah.

¹⁴ David said to Gad, “I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy^(A) is great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”
