^8 (A)But they rebelled against me and were not willing to listen to me. ^(B)None of them cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt.

“Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them ^(C)and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

^21 (A)But the children ^(B)rebelled against me. ^(C)They did not walk in my statutes and were not careful to obey my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; they profaned my Sabbaths.

^(D)“Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness.

⁷ And I said to them, ^(A)‘Cast away the detestable things ^(B)your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with ^(C)the idols of Egypt; ^(D)I am the Lord your God.’

⁸ Now I will soon ^(A)pour out my wrath upon you, and ^(B)spend my anger against you, ^(C)and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations.

^13 (A)“Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that ^(B)I am the Lord—that I have spoken in my jealousy—^(C)when I spend my fury upon them.

^13 (A)But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. ^(B)They did not walk in my statutes but rejected my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; ^(C)and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned.

^(D)“Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make a full end of them.

⁷ Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. ^(A)From the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.

^4 (A)And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden^[a] calf. And they said, ^(B)“These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” ⁵ When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron ^(C)made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” ⁶ And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And ^(D)the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up ^(E)to play.
