²⁵ So I gave^(A) them other statutes that were not good and laws through which they could not live;^(B)

³⁹ “‘As for you, people of Israel, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Go and serve your idols,^(A) every one of you! But afterward you will surely listen to me and no longer profane my holy name^(B) with your gifts and idols.^(C)

⁹ The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan^(A) works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders^(B) that serve the lie, ¹⁰ and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.^(C) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.^{(D) 11} For this reason God sends them^(E) a powerful delusion^(F) so that they will believe the lie^(G)

²⁶ I defiled them through their gifts—the sacrifice^(A) of every firstborn—that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the Lord.^(B)’

⁹ “‘And if the prophet^(A) is enticed^(B) to utter a prophecy, I the Lord have enticed that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and destroy him from among my people Israel.^{(C) 10} They will bear their guilt—the prophet will be as guilty as the one who consults him. ¹¹ Then the people of Israel will no longer stray^(D) from me, nor will they defile themselves anymore with all their sins. They will be my people,^(E) and I will be their God, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(F)’”

³⁶ The Lord will drive you and the king^(A) you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors.^(B) There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone.^(C)

²⁷ The Lord will scatter^(A) you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive^(B) among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. ²⁸ There you will worship man-made gods^(C) of wood and stone,^(D) which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.^(E)
