⁷ And he ravaged their strongholds^[a]
    and laid waste their towns;
the land was appalled, and all in it,
    at the sound of his roaring.^(A)

¹² I will dry up the channels of the Nile
    and will sell the land into the hand of evildoers;
I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it
    by the hand of foreigners;
I the Lord have spoken.^(A)

² Hear, you peoples, all of you;
    listen, O earth, and all that is in it,
and let the Lord God be a witness against you,
    the Lord from his holy temple.^(A)

¹⁵ Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
    is a wicked ruler over a poor people.^(A)
16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor,
    but one who hates unjust gain will enjoy a long life.

³ A poor person who oppresses the poor
    is a beating rain that leaves no food.^(A)

¹² A king’s anger is like the growling of a lion,
    but his favor is like dew on the grass.^(A)
