⁷ and seized^[a] their widows.
    He laid waste their cities,
and the land was appalled and all who were in it
    at the sound of his roaring.

¹² And ^(A)I will ^(B)dry up the Nile
    and will sell the land into the hand of ^(C)evildoers;
^(D)I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it,
    by the hand of ^(E)foreigners;
^(F)I am the Lord; I have spoken.

^2 (A)Hear, you peoples, all of you;^{[a]
    (B)}pay attention, O earth, and all that is in it,
and ^(C)let the Lord God be a witness against you,
    ^(D)the Lord from his holy temple.

¹⁵ Like ^(A)a roaring lion or ^(B)a charging bear
    is ^(C)a wicked ruler over a poor people.
¹⁶ A ruler who ^(D)lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor,
    but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.

^3 (A)A poor man who oppresses the poor
    is a beating rain that leaves no food.

¹² A king's wrath is like ^(A)the growling of a lion,
    but his ^(B)favor is like ^(C)dew on the grass.
