⁴ Then the king of Egypt made ^[a]Jehoahaz’s brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took ^[b]Jehoahaz his brother and carried him off to Egypt.

³³ Now Pharaoh Necho put him in prison ^(A)at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and he imposed on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. ³⁴ Then ^(B)Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah, and ^(C)changed his name to ^(D)Jehoiakim. And Pharaoh took Jehoahaz ^(E)and went to Egypt, and ^[a]he died there.

Message to the Sons of Josiah

¹¹ For thus says the Lord concerning ^(A)Shallum^[a] the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, ^(B)who went from this place: “He shall not return here anymore, ¹² but he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.

^6 (A)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him, and bound him in ^[a]bronze fetters to ^(B)carry him off to Babylon.

¹⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

^31 (B)Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was ^(C)Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
