conspicuous for its height

it towered on high,
    its top above the thick foliage.^(C)

¹⁵     the root your right hand has planted,
    the son^[a] you have raised up for yourself.

¹⁰ sharpened for the slaughter,^(A)
    polished to flash like lightning!

¹⁴ Fire spread from one of its main^[a] branches
    and consumed^(A) its fruit.
No strong branch is left on it
    fit for a ruler’s scepter.’^(B)

¹² But it was uprooted^(A) in fury
    and thrown to the ground.
The east wind^(B) made it shrivel,
    it was stripped of its fruit;
its strong branches withered
    and fire consumed them.^(C)
