^17 (A)Nor will Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company do anything in the war, ^(B)when they heap up a siege mound and build a ^[a]wall to cut off many persons.

⁷ “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Thus you shall say to the king of Judah, ^(A)who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: “Behold, Pharaoh’s army which has come up to help you will return to Egypt, to their own land.

^2 (A)Lay siege against it, build a ^(B)siege wall against it, and heap up a mound against it; set camps against it also, and place battering rams against it all around.

⁶ Look! You are trusting in the ^(A)staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who ^(B)trust in him.

⁵ Then ^(A)Pharaoh’s army came up from Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

⁴ Now it came to pass in the ^(A)ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and encamped against it; and they built a siege wall against it all around.

⁵ ‘They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but only to ^(A)fill their places with the dead bodies of men whom I will slay in My anger and My fury, all for whose wickedness I have hidden My face from this city.
